San Holo in Concert
His tracks blend sentimentality and confidence, levity and seduction, with an elegance that few DJs match. Born in the Netherlands in 1990, crackshot DJ and producer San Holo (Sander van Dijck) studied music production and guitar at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam, going on to teach guitar. In 2012 he released his first EP as a DJ, ‘Corellia,' which started to turn heads and gain him acclaim; two years later, he signed to Heroid Recordings and released his ‘Cosmos' EP, landing on iTunes' Top 100 Electronic page. San Holo really blew up later that year, when he released a smokin', club-ready remix of Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode," which has scored a cool 175 million views on YouTube. In 2016, his single, the intoxicatingly gripping "Light," which he released on his own label (bitbird), debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. His romantic, groovy "I Still See Your Face" reached No. 31 on the Billboard Netherlands chart.
Like any great DJ, San Holo has made as much a name for himself from his lightning-hot collaborations and remixes as he has from his own formidable compositions. His indie-flavored R&B joint with James Vincent McMorrow, "The Future," exudes sexiness throughout its expansive textures. Other great collaborations have been his numerous tracks with The Nicholas ("They Just Haven't Seen It," "Hiding") and "Lift Me From the Ground," which features Sofie Winterson and reached No. 42 on the U.S. Dance chart. Of course, San Holo's remixes are always a satisfying main course within his catalog—other standouts are his renditions of Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and Nelly's "Ride Wit Me." As expected, San Holo is very active in the live DJ scene, and his shows capture all of the wonder and heart-palpitating enchantment that his music evokes.
