San Francisco 49ers History

The San Francisco 49ers were established in 1946 as a member of the All-America Football Conference and later joined the NFL in 1950 when the leagues merged. Tony Morabito, founder of the San Francisco 49ers, was the sports pioneer of the West, bringing San Francisco its first major league team in a professional sports business that was dominated by the East Coast.

By 1979, the 49ers had won three NFC West Division Championships, but with the introduction of quarterback Joe Montana, the team quickly began to dominate the NFL. By 1981, the San Francisco 49ers won their first Super Bowl Championship (XVI) and would go on to repeat their Super Bowl Success in 1984 (XIX), 1988 (XXIII), 1989 (XXIV), and again in 1994 (XXIX).

By 2013, the 49ers once again found themselves playing in a Super Bowl Championship (XLVII) against the Baltimore Ravens. With a surprising loss of 31-34, the San Francisco 49ers left the Super Bowl for the first time without a victory. The team has produced a number of notable Hall of Fame players throughout its history, including Bob Saint Clair, Jimmy Johnson, Ronnie Lott, Dave Wilcox, Steve Young, Fred Dean, and Jerry Rice, alongside head coach Bill Walsh.

    Amazing experience

by Funky on 10/4/23Levi's® Stadium - Santa Clara

I am not a 49ers fan, but what an incredible experience, from the game, to the stadium everything was top notch. My only complaint is the ride share pickup after the game is a loooooooong walk

Brilliant team, great stadium, just not in San Francisco

by Russell on 9/24/23Levi's® Stadium - Santa Clara

I love watching the Niners and this is a great stadium to do it in. However, it’s so far from San Francisco that it’s not even funny. Two hours on a train and a tram each way. It’s also really expensive - over -$20 for a beer! It’s ridiculous. Time to being the Niners back to the actual Bay

by Jody on 9/24/23Levi's® Stadium - Santa Clara

It was an awsome trip to Santa clara to see the football game. Everything was well done. But the staduim was put in the middle of no where. I had a great time otherwise.

    Great fun for family

    by John LIncoln on 8/8/23

This is my second year going to training camp and it is well organized. You arrive at the Red lot, go through security and then on to a shuttle bus that takes you to the training facility (not the stadium). You then sit on the bleachers and watch the training camp. There is no food for sale, but they do have water in cups. The restrooms are portable toilets. The only suggestion would be to have something to do after for the couple of thousand fans there like open the museum.

See your gridiron heroes up close & personal!

    by HollyR on 8/7/23

Last year was the first year I'd gone to the 49ers training camp. I had a BLAST! I was able to go twice this year, and it did not disappoint. The staff working the event are super nice, and it's really well run and organized. Staying afterwards means you might get to meet your hero, and even if you don't get to meet the player you want, I guarantee you'll love the guy you DO meet. The players are great, and I mean GREAT, with the kids. Super patient, very professional. Mad respect that they're out there, grinding, in the heat, and pressure of making the team, and yet they're so kind and considerate when interacting with the fans. LOVE MY TEAM! Go NINERS!

    Training Camp was fun!

    by Mikey-O on 8/7/23

Made it to the longest practice session of the training camp so far but it was a great time! Very close to the players and they interact with the fans when necessary. Appreciate the experience!

The younger kids autograph section was amazing. Kittle is such a class act and the whole 49ers team is the best. They are making life long fans for now my younger kids as well. We Couldn’t have had a more fun family day. If your a 49er fan the training camp is a must!

    Ok I guess

    by Jaz on 8/4/23

Took my husband for his birthday wasn’t much to it. You literally just sit and watch them throw the ball around. Would’ve been nice if they offered a food stand. You get hungry sitting there for 2 hours. At least they provided water.

    training camp

    by ninergal on 8/3/23

People change things on you without telling you the way to go about things are new!!! I could not get my tickets to the training camp via 49er app or ticketmaster app. The 49er app just kept blinking off and on. While standing in line, I turn on/off my phone 3 times did not help. I uninstalled the 49er app and reinstalled and it did not help (did this twice). Ticketmaster app just kept putting a red circle with re blackslash on the transfer icon. So in order to get tickets to get in we had to wait for 209 minutes plus while they brought us paper tickets and we had a handicap person with us that could not stand that long. Luckily the nice women ask the handicapp cart to allow them to sit there while waiting then Steve was kind enough to take us over to the training camp area. I had to ger home wait a day uninstall everything regarding football and reinstall and it finally worked. ALL of my othere apps were working just find and I was using several that morning. so it was not my phone

    Great experience

    by Karen Guacamole on 8/3/23

Attended my first training camp and I highly recommend it! We met a lot of local fans which was a nice change of pace coming from the Seattle area. The only criticism was the experience trying to purchase the tickets. Even though we logged on early and was in the lobby 30 mins+ , it was a headache trying to get tickets.

    Great experience

    by Missy on 8/3/23

Sitting on the sideline with Shanahan right in front of us throwing the ball to the players. Being able to witness Kittle and Lance both do their thing. Hufanga signing autographs at arm reach. I literally could go on and on. So glad I have experienced this and with my kids at that.

    Best Christmas Gift Ever!

by MontanaFan on 1/16/23Levi's® Stadium - Santa Clara

My fiance' got us club level tickets to the 49er game on Christmas Eve. All of the staff within the bar/restaurant areas were very friendly and they also have the best restrooms in the stadium. Loved our seats; got to see the players run out of the tunnel. It will be difficult to go to another game and not get the club level experience. And, the Niners won!
