San Antonio Spurs History
The story of the San Antonio Spurs began in the summer of 1973, when a group of local investors leased the Dallas Chaparrals and brought professional basketball to San Antonio. Midway through that first season, the group purchased the team outright, planting the roots of what would become one of the NBA’s most respected franchises.
The Spurs spent their first three seasons in the ABA before joining the NBA in 1976, alongside the Nets, Nuggets, and Pacers. Since entering the league, San Antonio has become a model of sustained success, boasting the second-highest winning percentage (.595) among all NBA teams. Over the decades, the Spurs have captured five NBA championships and 22 division titles.
The team has honored its legends by retiring 10 jersey numbers, including Hall of Famers George "Iceman" Gervin, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker—all of whom helped define generations of Spurs basketball.
The 2025–26 season marks a significant moment in Spurs history. After 29 seasons as head coach, Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich has transitioned into the role of President of Basketball Operations. Stepping into the head coaching role is Mitch Johnson, officially named the 19th head coach in franchise history after serving as acting head coach for the majority of last season.
On the court the Silver and Black are led by NBA All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. They are joined by Spurs veterans Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan while Stephon Castle, the NBA’s 2025 Rookie of the Year, returns for his second season. This summer the Spurs added veteran leadership with the additions of Luke Kornet and Kelly Olynyk. The 2025 NBA Draft brought more young talent to San Antonio, including No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper and No. 14 pick Carter Bryant.

Great time. Easy entry by phone. Great Experience to be part of history. Hard to watch a basketball game in a dome but overall a fun time.
Purchased expensive seats on the floor in the 7th row and thought these would be the best seats that I have ever purchased....boy was I wrong. My wife and I arrived early and were seated only to find that dozens and dozen of people were standing in front of our view of the court including event security. Security didn't move and did nothing to move the people that left their seats and decided to stand courtside to watch the game. The risers on the floor had a very slight incline and the court was not raised so everyone's view in my section was obstructed. My wife and I maybe were able to see 20% of the game because in the 4th qtr security started to ask people to return to their seats. At this point the game was separated by 30 points and the reserves were all in. Had to go home and re watch the game since I didn't see any of the action live with the starters in. Will never return to a Spurs game again based on this experience!
I bought tickets with ticketmaster and everything went well. After i purchased them I added them to my Apple wallet and had it ready for the event. When the event was approaching a notification came up on my phone reminding me.
Overall a great event. Concessions were overloaded, missing items. I waited over 30 minutes in line, missed the opening event only to be told there was no more popcorn.
Traffic from Austin to San Antonio was horrific! Three hours plus. Inexcusable on both I-35 and Toll Road 130. Parking was worse. Walked two miles while being late arriving with three minutes to okay until halftime. Won’t do a Spurs Warriors Friday game tipping at 6:30pm ever again.
It was nice to be back in the Alamodome. It brought all the nostalgia feels. However, it was also another reminder as to why the dome shouldn't host a basketball game. The venue is just too big. Even if you purchased plaza level seats, you still can't see the court. Cool to be a part of history, but I don't think I'll do this again.
I spent a lot of time finding a good seat. When I got to the event the seat was NOT what I expected. The seat is not even facing towards the court as depicted on the website. I could not even see the court from my seat and had to look at the big screens the whole time. If I knew I would not be able to see the actual court, I would have stayed at home and had a better picture watching from my living room. If you are going to have seats like this where the vision is going to be impaired, it should state that before purchasing the ticket. The seats also felt unsteady. Seat continually jumped and felt like someone was kicking me in the back the whole time...there was no one there. Also, didn't get anything to eat or drink. People were waiting in line for an hour. You missed half the game if you waited tried to purchase something. Very disappointed. Won't attend another event at the Alamodome for this magnitude of an event. I really want my money back!
So I bought seats row 12 thinking they were good but they in facts were not. They should’ve specified there would be a massive gap between the court and the first couple rows and where they actually start counting the rows. Huge misconception and really ruined my experience. Even thou I caught a shirt and a parachute drop!! Still.
I wish the Spurs would have done better practice everyday and you will get the championship
Ideally we had great seats (Club Level) but it was difficult to see the court. Everyone in the stadium won a free wataburger taquito but they never handed out the vouchers. On a good note, it was a fun experience to be apart of.
The food and beverage service was amount the worst I have ever experienced. The dome was completely unprepared for this event. I literally missed half the game stuck in the concession line. The parking situation was a mess as well. Hours of my life and lots of my hard earned money wasted.
We had a great time! Parking was expensive lines were long but it was a great time for our time
We were surprised at the seating arrangement. Had we known how it was going to be we wouldn’t have spent that much money on the tickets.
The Spurs and the ALAMODOME really PRICE GOUGED true SPURS FANS... $700 to sit around the court, $400 for section 100 which was 50 Yards away... TERRIBLE SEATING and especially TERRIBLE SPURS PERFORMANCE
Park and ride from crossroads not well planned out and via seemed ill prepared for the crowd. The wait for buses was long and we got to the stadium ten minutes before tip off despite getting to the park and ride at 4:55. The game was great but the seats were not good despite paying over 100 dollars per ticket. Since it is well known that the view of the game from most seats would not be good, the prices for the seats should have been lower. Love my Spurs though, and attended to support the team and participate in the record breaking attendance. Do better though, with large crowds at the food lines. Also was disappointed that no commemorative item was given out to attendees. Even a small poster like what was given out at Tony Parker's farewell would have been awesome.
I am a long time fan of the Spurs. I live 3 hours away but have traveled for years to watch 2 to 3 games a year. It has been many years since I had seen them at the Alamodome, so I was a little confused with the seating when ordering tickets online. I usually try to sit in the lowers seats, no more than to 20 rows up. My seats were definitely in the lower portion, but when I sat down, there was no court in front of me. It was wayyy over to the left of my seats. I thought it was a joke! I watched most of the game on the big screen. That being said, it was good to see Steve Kerr, Avery Johnson, Tony Parker, Manu Ginoboli, & David Robinson. If Tim Duncan was there, I didn’t see him. We left with about 5 minutes left in the game. It was hard to see such a blowout. There is some young talent on the team, but just don’t have the strong team from a few years back. Go Spurs Go!
Purchased tickets to watch Spurs vs Golden State as a Christmas gift for my son. The event was better than expected. Check in was quick and easy. Outdoor activities were so much fun and kid friendly. Also received my shirts that were purchased with tickets, lines moved quick. Then we enjoyed the fireworks after the game.
I spent two quarters in line just to not even being close to the front of the line. I refused to remain in line for the final quarter after spending over $200 per seat for a party of 5. The location of the seats to the court was misleading. I would have never spent that much for seats if it would appear i was in the balcony due to planting a basketball court on a football field. AT&T center accommodate better for the price.
I attended the recent Spurs 50th Anniversary game and it was a mixed experience. Many parking problems (lot B) entering was easy, leaving not as good. Inside we had deceit seats, RS13 (within the inner circle), but the view was just above floor level. What made it bad were the inconsiderate fans in front that chose to stand up during the game. Bottom line, I should have stayed home to watch the game on tv with much better food.
Kind of disorganized. Not much entertainment pre game. Venues ran out of food quickly.
