RuPaul's Drag Race on Tour
Even beamed into people's living rooms through their TVs, RuPaul's Drag Race is one of the biggest and most fabulous shows on Earth — it was only a matter of time before its cavalcade of queens ended up in Las Vegas. Specifically, they took up residence at the Flamingo, in a room that for more than a decade hosted the Donny & Marie variety show. A far more colorful and extremely ambitious production, RuPaul's Drag Race LIVE! involves big dance numbers, wild wardrobe changes, all-star catwalk crawls, vicious lip-sync battles and, well, a "bitch-slap" competition that calls for audience involvement. The mission is to make fans feel like they're in the middle of an interactive episode taping — a rotating cast of beloved queens previously seen on the show partakes in a series of challenges, performances and face-offs. The crowd determines a winner via the Clap-O-Meter, an outsize applause measurement device made to look like big lips and a giant tongue. The choreography comes from longtime Ru pal Jamal Sims (Step Up, the Oscars, live-action Aladdin) and is set to tunes previously heard on the series (think Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears) as well as new original music from RuPaul, producer Leland and Tom Campbell. Meanwhile, the vibrant and often delightfully absurd sets transport viewers to a veritable wonderland of neon sass.
RuPaul's Drag Race in Concert
RuPaul's Drag Race debuted on Logo TV in 2009 and became an instant hit. It didn't hurt that the show's host, mentor and head judge was already the most famous and beloved drag queen the world had ever known, but the series quickly demonstrated its power to captivate audiences of all backgrounds and launch incredibly colorful new stars. By the time it kicked off its 12th season in 2020, the reality competition series had been nominated for 23 Emmys and won nine, not to mention increased awareness and (rabid) appreciation of drag culture, as well as gifted unto the world such truly inspired queens as Trixie Mattel, Bianca Del Rio and Alaska Thunderf*ck 5000. In 2017, RuPaul's Drag Race leapt to VH1 and also off of the screen via the Werq the World tour. That larger-than-life spectacle proved to be a hit, running for years and also paving the way for RuPaul's Drag Race LIVE! in Las Vegas, starring show alumni Yvie Oddly, Aquaria, Asia O'Hara, Derrick Barry, the Pit Crew and many more.
It was awesome. Thank you for coming to WV!!! Please come again.
The show was amazing!! The Queens put their heart and soul into their performances and Yvie was hilarious!!! My only gripe was the venue, they did not have the big tvs that cast a closer view for the people in the back. But nothing wrong with the show or the performance or the Queens <3
Great venue, the show was amazing! Ru never disappoints. Mixed drinks need to be bigger for the price. I saw Ru in Louisville a month ago, different show, also amazing, but the drinks were huge!
The show was amazing! the cast kept everyone entertained! the venue was easy to attend and not overly crowded
Had an absolute blast! However, 2 of the queens that I was most excited about seeing were not there. I didn’t know if certain queens were going to be at select venues or not, but I was sad to not see them there after thinking for months that they would be because they were listed. Overall though, still an awesome experience! I wanted to go again the next day.
If you are looking for a fun, spooky and entertaining drag show, look no further. With host Yvie Oddly you will be taken on a creative recounting of favorite Twilight Zone episodes with fierce queens lip syncing and dancing with gorgeous back up dancers. The costumes are amazing, filled with gore and surprising reveals.
Fantastic entertainment, lots of fun! Hope this show comes back to Charleston!
Yvie Oddly had us cackling the whole show! Each performance was on point! Truly amazing. These queens know how to turn it out!
The show was amazing and worth the price of ticket. Entertaining and full of art. Would come to another show.
It was a great night. This was my first show of this nature and I loved every minute of it. I’ve watched them perform on tv but nothing beats seeing them live. My daughter ,who I went with was a bit disappointed that two of the performers advertised were not there, Rose’ and Jayda and there was no explanation given on why. With Rose’ being the one queen she really wanted to see the most. Definitely will go see another show!!
I was in the front row, which you would think would be fun. But it was really boring. There were maybe 6 people in the show. I found it very disappointing. I paid $140.00 each for two front row Platinum tickets. if I had paid $35, I would have still been disappointed that I wasted a night in Vegas at this show.
This show brought the house down. Every act was perfection. The crowd was really into it and you really felt the love.
My wife is a big fan of Ru Pauls shows. I’ve happened to watch a few episodes with her on occasion. Being a heterosexual man married to the most beautiful woman in the world, I honestly never thought I would attend a show like this. However, let me be the first to say I had a blast. I’ve always had respect for the queens for being their true selves and doing what makes them happy and comfortable. I know they out a lot of time and effort into the craft just as any other professional would do. I was laughing, cheering, and having a grand time at this show. I purchased these tickets for my wife to be able to enjoy a night of in person entertainment rather than just watching on tv. I got all cowboyed up and honestly felt more at peace and comfort than most concerts, comedy shows, or sporting events I’ve been too. The crowd of diverse people were so kind, enthusiastic, and wonderful people I’ve been around. I have no doubts that I’ll attend more drag show events whenever they’re close to our area. What a show, what a performance, and what class, elegance, and talent those queens have. Thank you for changing my perception and perspective on what these queens do. Thank you Ru Paul for bringing this event close to WV so that my wife and I could enjoy the show. Everyone in my opinion show attend a show like this and see these queens rock the stage and keep you entertained.
This was my first drag show. I brought my son for his 18th birthday. I was amazed! Absolutely non-stop action and the so much fun! Definitely would go to this again.
Phenomenal experience. Never been to a drag show, have only seen Rupauls drag race on tv, and to have been able to enjoy the live performances as much as I do the tv show was awesome. Truly beautiful performance art and amazing talent, comedy, and audience involvement. Will definitely buy tickets for it again!
It was great like a broad way production!! I put it on face book.
From the opening act which was amazing, to every episode we were amazed by the talent of the performers. Queens rule❤️
Rupaul's Night of the Living Drag is a treat that I look forward to each year! . The ladies are fantastic performers, very gracious when we meet them, and every show is something spectacular. Very happy with the show and look forward to next year!
As a fan of the show, my Partner and I finally took to seeing the 'Live' show in Vegas. It did not disappoint, but it was something that I'd only go to once. The show is a simulation of the TV series with 6 of the past contestant Queens 'competing' for the crown. With the Vegas splash of costumes and set, the show was entertaining. However, it could have done without the 'commercials'. The Queens rotate around throughout the year, so you really don't know who you'll see 'competing'. We had Lawrence Chaney, Coco Montrese, Pangina Heels, Kahanna Montrese, and Derrick Barry, with Asia O'Hara as our MC. Of course, there was the 'Pit Crew' on hand. Lord knows who will be in the cast when you see it... As for the seating, it is in the original Flamingo Showroom and is pretty small by today's standards. If you want a good view, try to stay away from the lower first rows of seats on either side of the runway. Otherwise, you'll have to turn your head quite a bit to watch what's going on. The showroom still has the classic booth sittings with about 5 to a booth on the lower level. The upper balcony is seats only. Our booth was right at the 'tip' of the runway and was a perfect spot to see everything comfortably. ENJOY!
I attended my first RuPaul Night of the Living Drag show hosted by Evie Oddly. I loved seeing the queens and loved their dance numbers. I wish there were more dance sequences and less narration between them.
