About

Rock of Ages (Hollywood) on Tour

Fifteen years after its debut, Rock of Ages has come home to Hollywood. The Tony Award-nominated hair-metal jukebox musical has enjoyed an epic run on Broadway, toured the world, and been adapted into a feature film, but now, like a veteran singer heading to Vegas, Rock of Ages is enjoying a site-specific residency overseen by the show's original creator, Matthew Weaver. The show's fictional bar, The Bourbon Room, is now an actual restaurant/performance stage on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where the show's ‘80s Sunset Strip setting is brought to life in a space artfully modeled after classic LA rock dives like the Troubadour and Whisky a Go-Go. But this dinner-theater adaptation of the show serves up all the grit with a touch of class: given that Weaver went on to executive-produce the cooking show Chef's Table for Netflix and the instant foodie classic Jiro Dreams of Sushi, he's ensured The Bourbon Room's food and cocktail offerings are fit for the most decadent rock star.

Rock of Ages (Hollywood) Background

At the heart of every great rock anthem — be it Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" or Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" — is a poignant, heartrending underdog story, and Rock of Ages effectively took that idea and spun it into Broadway gold. The jukebox musical time-warps audiences back to LA's Sunset Strip during the hair-metal heyday of the 1980s, telling the story of rock-star hopeful Drew Boley and his love interest Sherrie through the biggest fist-pumping hits and most majestic power ballads of the era. After debuting to sold-out limited engagements in LA in 2005-06, the show made its way to Broadway in 2009 and parked the proverbial tour bus there for the next six years, staging over 2,000 performances en route to joining the ranks of the Top 30 longest-running Broadway shows ever. Over the years, the show has made pit stops everywhere from Switzerland to South Africa, and it spawned a big-screen adaptation starring Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, and Alec Baldwin in 2012. But in 2019, Rock of Ages returned to its local roots, taking up residence in a real-life re-creation of the show's fictional venue, The Bourbon Room, on Hollywood Boulevard.

The show was amazing! So much fun. Up close and personal. Small venue. The cast was so talented and spot on! I took my 15 year old daughter, she is literally obsessed! We are definitely going to be seeing it again. Probably several times.

    AMAZING Experience!

by Team de Gyarfas on 12/31/19The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

What an AMAZING venue and overall experience! It is now the "day after" and we are all still giddy with excitement and over the moon with experiencing (yes, I intentionally used the word "experiencing") Rock of Ages at the BOURBON ROOM in Hollywood. From the moment that you walk in, you are thrown back in time and pleasantly remember the times of leather, buckles, fish net, over the top accessories, and big hair. Ahhhh . . . those were the days! I contacted the team at Rock of Ages to let them know that my daughter wanted to celebrate her 19th birthday party there. I was immediately contacted directly by Janet Rich (yes you read that right) and Janet and Matt Weaver (yup, you also read that right) orchestrated the most spectacular and memorable experience for my daughter and her friends (and me, of course). My daughter was celebrated with a beautiful birthday cake from Milk, an audience signing "Happy Birthday" to her, and some special love and attention from Frankie Grande. Oh what a NIGHT! Please, if you want to have a great night and relive your youth or for those younger . . . experience the most iconic music of all time for the first time . . . in an immersive setting, please do yourself a favor and GO see Rock of Ages at the BOURBON ROOM!

    Incredible Experience

by Paulh on 12/26/19The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

My first time, but not my last time! I went to Rock of Ages Hollywood at The Bourbon Room during their preview period. It was an incredible/fun experience. The lounge/bar is a great place to hang out and have drinks/cocktails (even if you are not going to the show you can still hang out at the bar/lounge with your friends). The actual showroom was designed specifically for the show and is a perfect set up; not a bad seat in the place. The experience/show is great; the cast was stellar and the experience is very fun/immersive. The staff at both the bar/lounge and showroom were great; very friendly and welcoming. I can’t wait to go back with more friends as well as anyone who visits me from out of town. It’s a very fun/unique experience in Hollywood!

    Absolutely Incredible. The Feels 100%.

by D. Klein on 12/23/19The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

The first time you see Rock of Ages Hollywood, you'll be glued to every moment as it unfolds before your eyes and ears. The cast, the story, the era, the innocence, the power. The love. The second and third time you see Rock of Ages Hollywood (you'll find yourself uncontrollably texting everyone about it), you'll want your friends and family to join you. At times, you'll find yourself watching them watch because you'll want to see the looks on their faces. It's the kind of shared experience that you'll never forget. An absolute masterpiece.
