About

Rock of Ages (Hollywood) on Tour

Fifteen years after its debut, Rock of Ages has come home to Hollywood. The Tony Award-nominated hair-metal jukebox musical has enjoyed an epic run on Broadway, toured the world, and been adapted into a feature film, but now, like a veteran singer heading to Vegas, Rock of Ages is enjoying a site-specific residency overseen by the show's original creator, Matthew Weaver. The show's fictional bar, The Bourbon Room, is now an actual restaurant/performance stage on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where the show's ‘80s Sunset Strip setting is brought to life in a space artfully modeled after classic LA rock dives like the Troubadour and Whisky a Go-Go. But this dinner-theater adaptation of the show serves up all the grit with a touch of class: given that Weaver went on to executive-produce the cooking show Chef's Table for Netflix and the instant foodie classic Jiro Dreams of Sushi, he's ensured The Bourbon Room's food and cocktail offerings are fit for the most decadent rock star.

Rock of Ages (Hollywood) Background

At the heart of every great rock anthem — be it Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" or Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" — is a poignant, heartrending underdog story, and Rock of Ages effectively took that idea and spun it into Broadway gold. The jukebox musical time-warps audiences back to LA's Sunset Strip during the hair-metal heyday of the 1980s, telling the story of rock-star hopeful Drew Boley and his love interest Sherrie through the biggest fist-pumping hits and most majestic power ballads of the era. After debuting to sold-out limited engagements in LA in 2005-06, the show made its way to Broadway in 2009 and parked the proverbial tour bus there for the next six years, staging over 2,000 performances en route to joining the ranks of the Top 30 longest-running Broadway shows ever. Over the years, the show has made pit stops everywhere from Switzerland to South Africa, and it spawned a big-screen adaptation starring Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, and Alec Baldwin in 2012. But in 2019, Rock of Ages returned to its local roots, taking up residence in a real-life re-creation of the show's fictional venue, The Bourbon Room, on Hollywood Boulevard.

    Rocktastic

by Terishka on 1/29/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

Heard about this new spot had to check it out, so glad I did! Thought it was just a small theater venue like in NYC some of the smaller shows book at. NOT AT ALL! I would describe this as a Theater Experience not just a show. The venue has a complete bar area that is theme decorated, cozy with seating sections and beautiful bar. As you walk thru to the side where you enter a completely different room that has a bar and seating with tables and chairs and huge stage stretching side to side in the front and in the center. We take our seats where we are instantly greeted by our server and handed menus for delicious food and character named drinks. The show begins a show I have seen before in NYC and Pantages. But this time the actors are in the audience on the stage in the center small stage and music from the band people singing along and smiles everywhere! It is something you will not experience anywhere else in Los Angeles!! The staff are attentive and the actors are first rate musical theater artists! If you think you are going to a off Broadway so/so show you are in for a surprise that will blow your mind! Excellent venue, fabulous performance, amazing service great food! You will not want to miss this for sure! We went on a Sunday night and it felt like Saturday night the place is amazing! Can't wait to go back again and again!

    Amazing

by S. L. on 1/21/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

It was such a great time. From the moment we got there, the staff was so friendly and fun. The cast was amazing, the songs best of the 80's. We sang and danced right along with them. After the show a lot of them came out to visit and take pics. It was all around a great time and I would definitely go again.

Awesome show, more fun than when we saw it in Las Vegas

by S. H. on 1/16/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

Wife and I saw the show on Thursday night January 2, 2020. Was still in its first few weeks, so no full dinner menu available yet (just chicken strips & fries, etc), but full bar available. Fun show, every seat was filled, not a bad seat in the house because the venue is small. Didn't know until it happened, but on Thursday nights after the show, some of the cast comes back out in normal clothes and sing a few songs while the staff is finishing up cleaning the room. So cool!!!! Choose a Thursday night show, stay around after to enjoy the after-show concert party. :)

    High energy talent, immersive entertainment!

by Aunt Buffy on 1/13/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

Wow! I saw this show while still in preview and it is great fun! The talent is astounding; all the rock and roll bases are covered. The voices, the moves, guitars and drumming, incredible dancers, a sexy story line with comic relief-and all while you sit in the bar enjoying your cocktails. The actors (and staff) are some of the finest-looking creatures in Hollywood, and that is saying a lot! Also flexible, pitch-perfect, and well timed, which leads to quite a number of jaw-dropping moments. Come have a blast with the Rock of Ages Hollywood cast and crew. You won't be sorry!

Great time at the Bourbon Room

by Matt on 1/13/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

I've seen this show at the Pantages Theater and now this new venue in LA. I enjoyed both very much. This new production's settings which take place in a bar where you can order food and drink while watching the show lends itself very well to Rock of Ages. The close proximity to the stage and performers makes you want to "rock out" even more. Had such a great time. Highly recommend if you love 80's hair band music.

by Adri on 1/8/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

I had seen this show several times before but never the way it was done at the Burbon room. Very intimate and immersive, amazing cast with incredible vocals. A lot of fun so we're going back with friends a second time. It definitely is a good time, great date night and completely entertaining. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves music and has a sense of humor.

Went with a group of friends on a weekend -- impressed by all of the cast and venue. Would recommend this show to anyone. Venue is smaller and more up-close with event -- felt like we were friends with the show cast by the end of the night! Will always be a fan of Rock of Ages!!

    This Is A Hollywood Must-See!

by Jarod on 1/5/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

This is such a unique presentation! When was the last time a Broadway musical sat itself down in a permanent venue in Los Angeles? This show surrounds the audience and is so energetic you leave feeling like you've been a participant in the show! Can't wait to go back when there's food.

Great venue and an awesome cast!

by Rani S. on 1/4/20The Bourbon Room - Los Angeles

What fun to be transported back to the 80’s with an excellent and talented cast! You will be smiling, inadvertently singing and enjoying each scene. It’s a smaller venue so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house. Currently they have some snacking food but would plan dinner locally and walk to the show! Loved it!
