The Robert Cray Band in Concert
When it comes to live performance, The Robert Cray Band like to get right down to business. Though they're led by one of the most distinctive blues guitar stylists of his generation, and the rest of the band bears a similar amount of instrumental authority, they don't like to showboat. Flashy licks are simply not what Cray and company are all about.
Instead, they cut right through to the emotional core of every tune — whether they're playing the classics that put Cray on the map, like "Right Next Door" and "Smoking Gun," or killing it on covers of tunes by the likes of Bill Withers, Bobby "Blue" Bland, or The Mississippi Sheiks. Cray and his cohorts use their mighty musical prowess in the service of the song. Sure, you'll hear plenty of fluid guitar solos, but at a Robert Cray show you'll never hear a single unnecessary note — in other words, everything he and his band play on stage really matters.
The Robert Cray Band Background
Robert Cray did more for the blues in the 1980s than anybody other than Stevie Ray Vaughan. He started out small with a string of early-'80s indie albums, but by the middle of the decade the singer/guitarist's blend of blues, soul, and rock 'n' roll influences made its way to the mainstream with a major-label deal that introduced the world to the game-changing Strong Persuader LP.
Between his supple grooves, soulful vocals, storytelling songs, and stinging guitar solos, Cray emerged as the blues hero the '80s didn't even know they were waiting for until he came along. Over time, Cray's sound has become simultaneously deeper and more expansive. His reputation has grown to the point that he's an esteemed elder statesman of modern blues, a winner of multiple Grammy awards, and an artist as venerated today as any of his heroes were when he was growing up and learning his licks.

As always Robert put on a great show at a great place
I have seen Robert Cray/Band numerous times and have been a fan since the beginning. He always puts on an excellent live show. This was no different. I'm sure I'll catch him again when he come around next time.
Robert Cray is always a knockout. My only complaint is the house. Lots of drunks yelling during intimate music make moments and sound guy didn't mix vocals in well.
Awesome show! Drummer, Base, and Keyboards were all terrific not to mention the virtuoso on guitar. It's been a long time since I saw Robert's band precede Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Ray Vaughn in Champaign, IL in 1974 but they haven't dropped a step.
What a great show! Robert Cray and his band were very polished and excellent musicians. RC is outstanding and unbelievable in his guitar playing and vocals. Small venue was perfect. We had a great time, come back soon!!!!!!!!!
The sound was mixed very well. Volume level was loud but no distortion and sound pressure was great which is always a good thing. The mix of new and old material was great.
Tremendous show, with a good mix of old and new songs. And a nice venue (first show I've seen there)
Robert was awesome. Played superbly, and as always sang perfectly. We wish he played 20 minutes longer.
The Robert Cray Band played many of their old standards, as well as a new album that is being released. It was outstanding. My only complaint was the crowd. There were folks in the audience who thought they should Tell Robert what to play..
Great performer brilliant band Most soulful voice you will ever hear On holiday from the UK we were so lucky to be so close rather lost in some big venue
The Robert Cray Band is awesome! We've seen them in multiple venues, the State Theater is a small but awesome venue. We just love to listen to Robert Cray!

Fabulous concert. A nice mixture of old favorites and new releases. Guitar and keyboard amazing! This was my second time seeing him at The State theater and this concert was as great as the last.
Robert Cray is amazing. The end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His voice and his amazing guitar playing are as good as ever. 1 1/2 hour set, no opening act. Started at 8 pm and ended at 9:32 pm. Home by 10 pm. Perfect for a Sunday night w/ work the next day.
The Robert Cray band was awesome! My favorite concert of all time. They played non stop for 1 1/2 hours., No intermission, no opening band. The parking garage was not a far walk. It was a perfect ending to a great weekend.
We had a great time, we loved how happy the band looked to be up there doing that they love!
Always has an amazing show! Sixth concert I have gone to for him and never am disappointed!!
Excellent sound and I liked the way he used his selection of guitars
