We attended on Saturday 05-04-2013 San Diego. Robby has his heart in the right place on this one. The event was quick moving,fast paced, alot of racing all in one night. The truck main event was exactly what we were used to seeing back in the day of Micky Thompson racing. Now just need to get the fans out so that Robby can grow the events!
I didn't think it was going to be as good as it turned out. I knew I would like it, but it gave me something just a little bit more. Considering the space for the track was somewhat limited, they did an awesome job of improvising with the space they did have. The half pavement, half dirt was good. Its cool to see them drift on materials other than dirt (not that I don't love that). I think with some more space for a bigger, slightly more technical track or even longer races (the last one of the night was 20 laps and was very enjoyable) this could snowball into something a lot bigger. I would for sure see this again when it comes back to town.
It is sometimes a challenge to go to an event that will please both children and adults, not to mention a five year age range between my sons. This event pleased all of us! When my husband and I were dating, we would occasionally go to Mickey Thompson's off road events. We remember enjoying that. So, when we saw this coming, we decided to take our sons and they loved it. The mini buggys were fun. I think we didn't fully understand the heats and qualifiers for the races at first. We wished the monster trucks raced more than two trucks at a time, but maybe it's a safety issue. Actually all of the events were fun! Exciting and thrilling to watch... Why 4 stars then? Well, I seem to recall a lot more dirt and a lot less paved track. The dirt track is so exciting to watch. Either way, we did have a blast. My teenager asked me two days later if we could do that again sometime. Pretty cool! It's not too often a 14 year old will request to go back to an event again.
I went to Mickey Thompson as a kid, so I was excited to take my 2 sons. They loved it!! All of the race action was very good. However, it started late and there was a lot of down time and announcing the drivers over and over and over again. Ended up being 3 hours which could have been 2 hours. I know it was only the second show, so I would think they would tighten it up. All in all we had a great time.
This event should become a yearly thing with more events near me. It's the first year of it and I hope it takes off. Even your wife will like this. I saw them last weekend at the LA Coliseum and it was so empty you could site anywhere. Somebody is not marketing this right because it is one of the best races I've ever been to. Keep it up Robby! Wish Mickey was here to see it with his own eyes. He'd be proud. Oh yah, Robby needs to get out and spend more time with his fans by giving out signed garb and such. He seemed kind of stuck up, high and mighty. Lower yourself to your fans and we'll continue to support you.
It was good to see the return of the monster and race trucks. The sand rails were cool too. My only disappointment was seeing asphalt on the track. I expected to see the entire field used for racing out of dirt, not dirt at one corner and the rest asphalt. I thought "off-road" meant "no asphalt". I spoke to others nearby and they felt the same way. I'm glad they're back, I hope with enough input and reviews, next year will be even better
Robby Gordon feat BIGFOOT Monster Trucks at the LA Memorial Coliseum (Sat, Apr 27, 2013) was the most amazing show i've ever seen! Spectacular stunts and events, very large selections of vehicles, VERY family friendly, and great fire and firework display! I really do recommend this event! You won't regret it!
Very fun watching the cars going hard, Better then the long beach grand prix races.
Everything was great except the track was 80% asphalt. We came to see an Off Road race on dirt. Most of the track was boring with little to none side by side racing. Watched the first race on TV that was all dirt and thought it was awsome. This was a huge disappointment for someone that has been an off road and Robbie Gordon fan for almost 30 years.
Good idea, poor track layout. More dirt and side to side racing is much more fun for spectators. Too much down time between events. Still I will return, cause I know it's just gonna keep getting better and better.
Fun,rad,fast ripping drivers,straits a little boring,need table jumps there .I've been a fan of Robie's forever, met him at the Mint 400 years back also Nascar.Great human ! Great idea to come back where it all began . Just a little long and slow .
Awesome! I was a kid last time I was at the coliseum watching the trucks. I still remember it vividly. Now, with my young sons, to watch their reaction was priceless! Great show!
This was a really fun event. It "sort-of" reminded me of the old Mickey Thompson races (less the quads, bikes & dirt). The stadium trucks were awesome! I would easily give this event 5 stars but the production was a bit lacking. There was a lot of dead time. Aka, a lot of time for my kids to get fidgety. Things like: the announcer & video screen operator not on the same page, 2 drivers being flown in from Vegas delaying start time 40 minutes. That being said, we will 100% go again. $25 tickets with free kids tickets!
The stadium was small so the trucks were in great viewing range all around. There were alot of close calls and minor accidents being that it was a tight squeeze. All around it was a fun exciting event and the kids had a blast. I'd love to see this again!!!
I think Robby Gordon has a great thing going on here & I hope it works out. My son, husband, & everyone else that went with us had a lot of fun. Now why I only gave it four stars is because we bought the most expensive tickets, after all fees, we paid about $230.00 to go, when the show started, they invited people who paid $25 for tickets, down to the $40.00 ticket section, that is upsetting. Why did I spend so much money for reserved seats? Bad business. I am not very happy with what they did at all.
I was really upset that we got there early to get in the pits and to come to find out a Speed energy can was needed to get your hand stamped to go stand in another line to get the plastic pouch to put your ticket in to get in the pits. Had to go dumster diving to find a can half way around the coliseum. By the time we got into the pits they closed them 30 seconds later. I was pissed off. Ive been to the Lucas Offroad races and you don't have to play these stupid games. The racing was good but dont go to the Coliseum if you cant build the track on top of the grass. And if i was a driver and took the risk of taking the big jump it should of had more of a pay off. Not one driver made time by using the jump. The fast way around the top was the safe way. I hope Robby Gordon reads this. But Im sure he won't.
Absolutely had a great time. We brought 4 boys ages 8 to 13 and everyone of them said the same thing! "Awesome"
Great event. Inaugural season is a hit. Looking forward to more SST racing in the future.
I had a blast!! What a show!! Action packed, not a lot of waiting between races. Just an overall really good time. Cant wait for the next one!!
Great Event! Liked the up close action. Would like to see more emphasis on the super buggys
