Rob Thomas Concert Schedule

The impassioned voice behind post-grunge chart-topper Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas has also enjoyed a successful solo career kick-started by a collaboration with the legendary Carlos Santana. The singer-songwriter typically jumps between both of these musical worlds on tour, performing his own more polished pop-oriented material alongside new interpretations of his band's most-cherished emotive rock hits, while also showcasing his unique dance moves and compelling storytelling abilities. There have been plenty of opportunities to see Rob Thomas live over the years. He has embarked on headline treks to support all of his studio efforts, as well as a Special and Intimate Performance tour in 2014 and a series of joint shows with the Counting Crows in 2016.

Rob Thomas Background

Born in Landstuhl, West Germany, in 1972, Rob Thomas moved with his family to the US as a baby and lived a relatively nomadic childhood before settling in Orlando aged 11. Inspired by the country music of Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash, he began penning songs and performing in various cover bands as a teen, and in 1993 formed Tabitha's Secret, the group which would eventually evolve into Matchbox Twenty. As the frontman and chief songwriter, Thomas guided the band to phenomenal success, with 1996 debut, Yourself or Someone Like You, selling 12 million copies, and 2000 sophomore, Mad Season, spawning a number one single, "Bent." But Thomas' crowning glory arrived in 1999 when he teamed up with Carlos Santana on "Smooth," the three-time Grammy winning chart-topper which was later announced as the second-biggest US hit of the 20th century. Thomas launched his solo career proper in 2005 with Top 10 single "Lonely No More" and its parent album …Something to Be, a surprisingly poppier affair which drew comparisons with Justin Timberlake. Thomas spent the next decade alternating between Matchbox Twenty and his solo career. In 2012 he released album North with Matchbox Twenty. In 2009 he released his second solo album, C radlesong, followed by The Great Unknown in 2015. Fans can keep up to date with all things Rob Thomas by following him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Up and Down

by The Man on 1/17/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

Show was supposed to start at 8pm. Didn't come on stage till 8:30. And when he did come out, he spoke for a few minutes to tell us he was going to go back off stage and come out again because the show was being live streamed and that we should pretend it was the first time seeing him when he came back out. People all around us were complaining about the wait and were saying it was ridiculous when performers do that. The people next to us said they rushed through their dinner at the casino venue so they wouldn't miss anything. Bottom line. Not the best show I've ever seen and the delay certainly didn't help. Lots of negative talk leaving the arena.

I am a big advocate of dogs so his and his wife’s sidewalk angels cause is very near and dear to my heart.I volunteer at a shelter in Port Jervis NY which is very fulfilling. The concert was fantastic and the band behind him was one of the best I have ever seen thanking him for being such a advocate for a awesome cause!

    Did Not Disappoint!

by Franco on 1/17/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

Really great concert. Rob Thomas was amazing, despite battling what he described as "allergies"and a "cold over Christmas."For me, added more flavor to his already soulful voice and I personally appreciated him gutting it out rather than having to try to reschedule. You go to live concerts to hear these artist's real voices and not what they mix in a studio on multiple takes, anyway. I thought it was fantastic. Played many of his popular songs and had the audience out of their seats all night. Very cool to have his son with him playing guitar. All that, and the cause he's supporting is top notch. Overall - great music + great company + great venue = One Great Night. Can't wait to see him at Foxwoods in April.

    Disappointing based on previous performances

by TylerR on 1/17/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

I’m a huge fan of RT, so it’s difficult to write this review. This was the 11th year of the Sidewalk Angels benefit concert in Atlantic City, NJ. I’ve attended every year and always look forward to it. The performances up until last weekend have been amazing, and felt very intimate and personal. However, this year was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Rob’s voice was a problem because he had been sick (he should have rescheduled because he couldn’t sing and drank tea all night). Halfway through the performance he said he had “allergies “ and was sick over Christmas. Did he really think people couldn’t tell he was sick??! Band;Acoustics: Typically, SWA benefit concerts are acoustic performances, not full blown, loud, rock concerts. This year RT had a large, boisterous band that overpowered his voice and also seemed to be competing with each other to see who was the loudest. It was way overdone. Venue: Until this year the benefits were held at the Borgata (now MGM), but this performance was at the Mark Etess Arena at Hard Rock in AC. The venue has awful acoustics compared to Borgata and bright lights were shining directly in our eyes (we were section 202, row 5), which are decent seats. We had to watch the screen because the lighting was blinding. Usually I don’t want RT’s concerts to end, and am sad when they do, but last weekend I’m sorry to say - I was happy to leave :( I don’t know if this was a coincidence (illness, poor venue choice, band hadn’t been together long), but it was one of the worst shows I’ve seen in a long time (and I attend many concerts, probably 10 -12 in a year.). I just saw RT two months ago at PARX and it was a fantastic show. Not sure what happened here, but I won’t go to the upcoming Bethlehem, PA show, if it’s with the current band and will think twice before buying tickets again. At least this benefited homeless animals and rescues. Maybe in the future RT and Matt Beck will go back to performing their incredible music in more intimate venues with fewer (unnecessary) musicians. I certainly hope so.

    Was good.

by Rob on 1/16/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

Well, he came on late and his set list was limited to mostly his solo stuff so you had to be familiar with his solo work. There was only 1-2 Matchbox Twenty songs. Otherwise, he looked and sounded great, moved around and commanded the stage and kept the audience engaged. Once he was done his list the houselights went right on so there wasn't any encore. Played for about a little over an hr.

    Truly enjoyed Rob Thomas

by Marie on 1/16/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

After seeing him w Matchbox 20 over the summer, I was excited to get tickets to see him w Sidewalk Angels in Atlantic City. He’s such a talented performer which is a rarity these days. No lip-synching here. His boy was talented as well on guitar.. even performed Santana’s part on Smooth which I can guess is not easy to emulate. Great show and will be at his next one!

Best Concert I have been to in a long time

by kelly on 1/16/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

Even though the concert started 45 minutes late, it was well worth it. He didn't waste our time with new stuff but played the old stuff we came to hear. One of the best concerts I have been to in a long time
