    Broadway is back

by Stan1220 on 4/1/22McAllen Performing Arts Center - McAllen

This has been my first broadway show in over 2 years since the pandemic. At first I was just glad that I was going to see a musical and the event was nearly perfect. It would have been perfect if the venue had provided a playbill/program of the musical. When I asked the person in charge, he thought I was speaking in some foreign language, but when I explained to him what it was he then said that they didn't have any but we are selling merchandise of the show. It broke my heart a bit because I collect playbills to all the musicals that I have seen and my expectations were crushed. Overall the show was awesome, all the characters have brought their A game and was impressed, it was by far the best show I have seen at this venue.

    Amazing!!

by Sophie on 4/1/22McAllen Performing Arts Center - McAllen

I had seen advertisements for this musical and always decided not to buy tickets. However, I bit the bullet and I’m so glad I did! It was such a beautiful production with amazing singing and sarcastic humor!

by Rose on 3/17/22Heymann Performing Arts Center - Lafayette

This is fun for the whole family! Everyone has seen Willy Wonka but to see it live is a great experience and I'm glad I was able to share it with my kids. The music was great, the acting was great and the dancing Oompa Loompa's were amazing and fun to watch. Great Job to all the cast and the behind the scenes workers!

Loved the Oompah Loompahs!!!! Very well done, time seemed to stand still and fly at the same time. Great updating and making it relevant.

A Memorable Show, But a Bit on the Darker Side

by Rocky on 2/16/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

With tons of laughs, a memorable score, and some great stage effects, Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a hit for my group. With that said, I'm glad I did not bring my young one with me who was originally supposed to attend this play pre-COVID (two years younger than she is now; would have been 6). This show has many adult themes, including drug/alcohol references, very mild sexual references, and some shocking outcomes to the children that are much different from the movies (not sure of book outcomes). Without giving any spoilers, one scene involving Veruka Salt ended with an unintentional lack of applause due to the audience's sheer shock of what had happened. This is unfortunate, as the musical features plenty of other magical moments that a younger audience would love. So, if considering to bring the family, I'd recommend 12+ for potential guests. Regardless, definitely don't miss this great musical!

    Great Show

by NinjaMom on 2/16/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The show starts a little slow, but once it gets started, it is very entertaining. The music makes you want to sing along and it was funny! The stage sets and effects are not the best I have seen, but a few were really great. Although the puppet Oompa Loompas were funny, adding a few actors would have been better. The tickets were pricey when compared to other larger productions. Overall, the show was enjoyable and worth seeing, great for new young theater goers. As for the venue and spectators, I love Chrysler Hall, but spectators should be advised to dress up and not dilute the theater experience.

    Good show, colorful and funny.

by Ben on 2/15/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The guy that played Willy Wonka was spot on and animated. I liked the way they brought the show up to date by changing TV Mike to playing video games instead of watching westerns. The bubblegum gum girl was a good was to change it, but she needs articulate so we could understand what she was saying.

    It was okay

by CatZ on 2/15/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Acoustics were bad. Music drowned out the voices. Hate to say I dozed off a couple of times. We’re told fairy tales are too violent for children. This show is geared to children. One character is pulled apart, another explodes, etc. Actors did a good job, especially the two lead characters. If the ticket had not been a gift, I wouldn’t have attended.

    Very Disappointing

by Mel on 2/15/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

This show didn’t sing any of the songs from the movies. The script was completely different, I felt like some of the scenes were inappropriate. Just overall disappointing and poorly written.

    Mimi&Granddaughters

by Amy on 2/14/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

A very special evening with my two granddaughters. We loved seeing this show we have enjoyed as a movie with Gene Wilder. The young fellow who was Charlie Bucket did a great job and we loved it when he and Willy Wonka appeared in matching costumes at the end. Oh how fun this was! It is such a special story rewarding good manners and excluding those with narcissistic tendencies.

    Not exceptional, but good

by Mrs D on 2/14/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Our family enjoyed the show. The cast did well, and there was a decent amount of talent on display. The disappointing aspects were primarily with the sound engineers and the set crew / technical support. Multiple microphone drops happened throughout the performance. And the show started with a handful of digital screen glitches. It was unprofessional, and very noticeable.

    great event.

by josh on 2/14/22Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The cast was great and the kid that played Charlie was awesome. Show started on time and Chrysler hall is a great venue for shows. If you liked the movie you will like the play. I thought the 2nd act was a little long but overall, i would give it a 6.5 out of 10.
