About

Lewis has taken his lifelong therapy fodder and carved it into a commanding, compelling art form. A NY Post article noted; "Richard Lewis built the strongest stand-up comedy career on a blazing trail of neuroses since Woody Allen." Comedy Central has recognized Mr. Lewis as one of the top 50 stand-up comedians of all time and he was charted on GQ Magazine's list of the '20th Century's Most Influential Humorists'.

SAG nominated Lewis for his work in the ensemble category for his recurring guest star role, playing true-to-life as one of Larry David's closest friends in "Curb Your Enthusiasm," the Seinfeld co-creator's hit HBO series. The show has garnered many awards to include over six Emmy nominations and high praise.

With scores of other guest acting appearances in TV series and films he tries to be as diverse as possible in his choices from appearing on such shows as "2 1/2 Men" and an arc in the new series, 'Til Death" starring Emmy Award winning Brad Garrett . He's been featured in the season finale of A&E's "The Cleaner," portraying a junkie with his life very much on the line. Other guest starring stints have included "The Dead Zone," "Alias," and "Seventh Heaven." He mixes it up between heaven and hell so to speak. Yet, most close to his heart was his four year run in ABC's critically acclaimed series "Anything But Love," co-starring with Jamie Lee Curtis, "Anything but Love", now out on DVD with Volume One of the four year situation comedy. Late night TV viewers and media junkies in general are familiar with his frequent guest appearances. He may hold title to having the most late night appearances, chalking up well over 100 appearances with Dave, Jay, Conan, Jon, Stern, Ferguson and Maher.

In December of 1989, Lewis achieved a very personal goal...he performed at Carnegie Hall to a standing room only audience. To close, in his own words--"I go on a long tour and make people happy that they're not me and go home."

i always see rl when he comes to town!

    by zsazsa1 on 2/20/11Wilbur Theatre - Boston

love richard lewis. great stand up. always funny. he stays with the times re: any political humor. his timing, pace and material are the best. he is really the consumate stand up. his life experience/ personal stuff are always funny. who can't relate to the quandry that is life, and he has lived a life! jb smoove who opened for richard lewis (he opened for him last time around as well) is not a great stand up. he's a funny comedic actor - some of his bits were good because he is a physical comedian but his timing and pace are uneven and his material is simply not funny. he should stick to being leon on curb your enthusiam.

    Richard Lewis was Richard Lewis

by airgreg on 2/20/11Wilbur Theatre - Boston

I enjoyed the show, JB Smoove came on before him and he was very funny. Richard Lewis came on and he had a hard time focusing, which was actually funny. He would start one story, go off on a tangent, and then return to the story he was telling. I liked the show.

    Horrible

by AJinBHill on 2/20/11Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Horrible. During one sketch the guy simulated humping a chair for at least 3-5 minutes. That followed by about 30 minutes of old people jokes. I usually don't post reviews or am even this critical, because I can imagine it is hard for people do perform in front of an audience. It sucked so bad.

Richard Lewis & JB Smoove; miss it!

by dinnerwasbetter on 2/20/11Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Not FUNNY! JB Smoove, instead of using comedic stories or one-liners, relied on non-stop cursing. He was difficult to understand and between positioning the microphone too close and being too loud, many of his non-humorous phases were unintelligible. Richard Lewis was slightly better, but seemed to just perform without any preparation and without continuity. A far better, more comfortable & a much less expensive idea would be to watch reruns of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

    Richard Lewis & JB Smoove

by MarshallLucky on 2/20/11Wilbur Theatre - Boston

It was our second time seeing Richard Lewis & JB Smoove live. They both did a lot of the same material from the first time we saw them over a year ago, but it was still a great time.

Richard Lewis- Short Comedian and Short Peformance

by Enzo455 on 6/5/10Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara Falls

Richard was rather good; I do like his style of comedy. The show was only one hour in duration and we were expecting a longer show than that. He tries to relate to the crowd in his performance, but this crowd was hard to read. They were not super into it! He does have some clever techniques in his delivery.

    Richard Lewis was incredible

by Billynickname on 1/18/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Richard Lewis was on his game, a truly original talent. Every story was hilarious. I really wanted J.B. Smooth to be good, but he wasn't. It takes no talent to stand on stage a swear.

These 2 guys were great. A great double bill. They should take turns one opening one night and the other the next.

    Not so funny

    by Jan56 on 1/17/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

We were disappointed in this show. J.B. Smoove was offensive and not at all funny. I hate this kind of humor -- swearing every other word, repetitive jokes and simulated sexual acts on stage. This is juvenile, junior high age humor and has no place in a show intended to entertain intelligent adults. Richard Lewis was definitely funnier and I enjoyed him more. However, his performance could have been longer --only on for a little under an hour. Given how much we didn't enjoy the opening act, we would have appreciated more from Mr. Lewis. Also, the venue itself was annoying. Since the Wilbur Theatre serves alcohol, there was a huge back up at the front door with people being carded and then "stamped" to allow them it -- give me a break! And then, when it was time to leave, I was not allowed to take my unfinished, $4 bottle of water out with me because "it might contain alcohol'. What a "Mickey Mouse" operation! We won't be back.

    why do comics...

by davdu on 1/17/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Why do comics insist on using swearing/sex for their routines. and seem to have nothing else to grasp. Just not my cup of tea.

    J.B. Smoove is great

by pslices on 1/17/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

J.B Smoove is funny, he was as great as he has been on Curb. 1st time i saw Richard Lewis live, he is no doubt an elderstates man, he is funny, and its remarkable how he is all over the place with his act and seems like a psychopath, but none the less hes worth seeing.

My wife and I both liked the show very much. JB and Richard were both very good. It was a funny show and a very enjoyable evening. We liked the venue and plan on returning in the near future. My only complaint is that there is not much leg room in the mezzanine.

    Lewis Earns The Fifth Star

by GeorgeSpelvin on 1/17/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

JB had some funny moments, the best being his interpretation of what a stage coach driver would do if accompanied by a hip hop song on the radio. But he repeated a lot of his lines, and really needs seasoning to make his stand-up as funny as his riffs on CURB. Lewis was brilliant from start to finish. His "stream of consciousness" approach to comedy is his trademark, and now that he's added, at 62, the notion that his short term memory is gone, it just makes his machine gun asides that much funnier. What a pleasure to watch a pro who is able to use his years of experience to relate to a very young audience, and get booming laughs along the way. Just a superb hour of comedy from Lewis.

    Fun Evening

by WhinyMcGee on 1/17/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Having only seen J.B. Smoove from Curb Your Enthusiasm, I wasn't sure what his stand-up act would be like, and he turned out to be hysterically funny. I enjoyed the physical elements of his routine (using the microphone stand, chair and stool as props). Sure, it was for mature audiences only, but he was wonderful. It was great to see Richard Lewis live for the first time, as I've always enjoyed his performances. However, I did find his act (which he claimed he didn't have) a bit tedious (though that may have been because I was tired at that point, who knows?) Still, it was great to see a comedy great do what he does best.

Susie Essman and Richard Lewis were great!

by framer397 on 8/31/09Atlantic City Hilton - Atlantic City

The show was fabulous. Susie Essman had the audience laughing throughout the entire performance. Richard Lewis as well. They are wonderful performers. She did a Q & A that was fun. Length of performace was good. Would definitely come to this venue again. Price great too!

    Susie Essman & RIchard Lewis

by rhona on 8/31/09Atlantic City Hilton - Atlantic City

Show began on time! Susie Essman was fantastic - the crowd loved her, many loyal "Curb" fans. She was personable, I could relate to her comedy, and had hearty laugh out loud's. She invovled the audience and concluded with an Q&A period. Would see her again. RIchard Lewis - was interesting, at first very hard to follow, all over the place in his thoughts. You need to listen closely and pay attention - a little work for me to stay with him and get the jokes. Would not see him again. venue - Hilton- easy to pick up the tickets- that's a plus, seats were not comfortable, big room, no problem seeing the artists.
