About

In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway… and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson’s RENT continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. And now, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production. A re-imagining of Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. With its inspiring message of joy and hope in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters—love.

  • Voices Not Great

by MaribelM on 3/13/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 2 out of 5

Woman in front of me was drunk and kept pumping her fist throughout the show. Very annoying. In addition, the voices were subpar. "Collins" was decent but he was paired with an average singer. Don't know why there is always the gratuitous mooning of the audience - really not necessary. Left after first act. Overall disappointing.

  • If I had driven my car, I would’ve left

by Jana on 3/12/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 1 out of 5

I was not at all pleased with the musical. If I had driven, I would’ve left. Honestly It was like Being on a rollercoaster that I couldn’t get off of. My boys, along with the people we came with, also did not like the play whatsoever. Very disappointing and an expensive lesson:(

  • Awesome

by Rent Head on 3/12/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen this show several times, at least 4 on Broadway and at least 3 touring shows. The message of the show is as relevant today as it was 25 years ago. Always spectacular actors/singers.

  • As good as it gets

by Jenny on 3/11/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 4 out of 5

The production of RENT was as good as it gets. Off or on Broadway and on tour. Sets, actors and orchestra right up close and personal. Unfortunately the acoustics at the Auditorium Theater in Rochester leave a lot to be desired.

  • Great musical, bad balance between music/vocalists

    by J. O. on 3/11/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 3 out of 5

I saw RENT in Rochester, NY on 3/8/2022. I enjoyed the musical but I could not understand/hear the vocalists over the music much of the time and had to guess at what was being sung.

  • A dated, but fun play

by Susan on 3/11/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 4 out of 5

I say "Rent" for the first time on Broadway 25 years ago. It was absolutely fabulous and right in tune with the times. On reflection, I think it is a good thing that this is the Farewell Tour. So many of the jokes and one-liners come from that time and place and I suspect that some were lost on the mostly 40-and-under crowd in the theatre. Clearly many in the audience had seen the movie or heard the soundtrack. For us 60+ types, it was a powerful reminder of our activist younger years. As to the performances, I had the sense that the actors were "playing parts," not really understanding and appreciating the nuances of the characters they played. It's a problem with touring productions generally, I think. Another city, another performance.

  • Great cast, moving and energetic performance

by AlliO on 3/10/22Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 4 out of 5

Taking a phrase from the show, "I can't believe [their] gone..." It's hard to imagine RENT no longer on stage. The Farewell Tour cast is strong and dynamic. They certainly do this incredible piece of theater justice. The music is mesmerizing, the dancing is outstanding and the acting is heart felt. Bravo!

Was so looking forward to this show and was not disappointed. Love love loved it. Great venue, kind staff, fantastic show. Not sure what thrilled me more, the wonderful show or watching my teen son fall deeper in love with theater. Hes been in 15 shows in 4 yrs and even did Rent( high school version) this past summer. Was so happy for the opportunity to take him to this.

  • Great show, talented performers

by Disappointed on 3/3/22Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The sound was not great. Had a hard time hearing them speak, not clear. I think the sound is the theater acoustics because I have had problems there before.

  • Spectacular!

by Ginger on 3/2/22Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Loved every minute of it. Sorry the production is ending.

  • Rent

by Elizabeth on 3/2/22Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

The actors were absolutely incredible. Every song and action seemed perfectly executed and emotions were displayed so effectively. The only problem was there seemed to be a bit of a reverb or echo on the sound which made hearing the words clearly a bit difficult.

  • Engaging and fast pace

by Dani on 3/2/22Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I've loved Rent for years and never had the chance to see it live until now. It's a completely different experience than listening to the soundtrack or watching it on DVD. I would definitely see it an infinite amount of times after this show!

  • Simply wonderful!!!

The touring company actors were simply the best I could imagine!! Each one brought the characters to the next level! Everything about this show was excellent! The set, the musicians, and all those behind the scenes made this show as sensational as the actors!! BRAVO!!
