RELIENT K IN CONCERT:

More than a decade after their powerful pop punk anthems launched them to stardom, Relient K continues to be a reliably awesome live act. Longtime fans will be ecstatic to hear a setlist packed with throwback favorites like "High Of 75" and "Be My Escape" along with tracks from the band's later releases, including 2013's Collapsible Lung. Frontman Matt Thiessen is especially entertaining onstage, captivating concertgoers with his personable and funny banter. With their fast-paced pop jams and emotionally charged sets, these Christian rockers always deliver a high-octane concert experience that leaves ticket buyers begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Vocalist Matt Thiessen, guitarist Matt Hoopes, and bassist Brian Pittman formed Relient K in 1998 in Canton, Ohio. The group incorporated spiritual themes into their pop punk tunes, quickly becoming a staple of the Christian rock scene. Christian label Gotee Records signed the band and released their self-titled debut album in 2000. They quickly amassed a huge following thanks to a heavy touring schedule and a catalog of upbeat tunes brimming with clever pop culture references. Their third album, 2003's Two Lefts Don't Make A Right...But Three Do, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album. In 2004 the group achieved mainstream stardom with the release of their fourth album Mmhmm, which spawned the Top 40 hits "Be My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been". The record debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart after receiving heavy radio airplay and exposure on MTV. Their next album,  2007's Five Score And Seven Years Ago, became their biggest hit to date, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. In 2014 Relient K announced a nationwide tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mmhmm, generating considerable excitement among fans before hitting the road with an updated lineup consisting of Thiessen, Hoopes, guitarist Jon Schneck, drummer Dave Douglas, and bassist John Warne, who replaced Pittman after his departure in 2004.

    So fun!

I’ve loved Relient K since their first album and have been wanting to see them for years! They were amazing and worth the wait!

    AMAZING!!

by Jacob on 3/15/22The Echo Lounge & Music Hall - Dallas

I've seen Reliant K 6 or 7 times over the past 12 years and they sound just as good now as they ever have! Their intro as they walk out on stage is classic Reliant K and sets the stage for a punch of a show. They sold the place out so hearing the whole venue sing every word to every song was an incredible!

    Incredible

by Jewel on 3/14/22The Echo Lounge & Music Hall - Dallas

This is my husbands favorite band, and a band I also have enjoyed since I was young. This concert was one of the most fun we have been to. The opener SEMLER was fantastic, and relient k was just freaking amazing! We had some impromptu songs happen due to technical difficulties for the drummer, but they kept us entertained the entire time and had about an hour and a half set and everyone was singing and dancing and having really fun time!

Be My Escape from the opener

by Relient Straight on 2/23/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

The opener “Semler” was not advertised and was not what I came to see. Wish it had been advertised that she was opening so I would’ve known about it and not gone. Probably why they didn’t advertise her. Because the sales would’ve been worse.

    Relient K does it again!

by Kelsey on 2/22/22The Pageant - St Louis

Relient K and Semler were INCREDIBLE!!!!!! I would have left a 5-star rating if I was basing my review on the bands alone. Semler, the opener, made me feel some things I hadn't thought about in a while and Relient K put on one of those best shows I've ever seen. It was a big time nostalgia trip. As for the venue, I wish the volume would not have been as loud as it was. I feel like it drowned out some of the quality of the sound. Or it deafened me so much I wasn't able to enjoy it completely. Also, the Covid restrictions were not posted as clearly as they could have been. Guests had to show proof of vaccination or a negative test. But the fine print said that the negative test had to be administered by a professional. I saw a few people turned away from the concert because they didn't read the fine print. Though it was posted, I think it should have been more obvious. I was happy to hear that the venue offered those turned away a full refund on ticket purchase.

    Even Better in Person

by Courtney L on 2/21/22The Pageant - St Louis

I am not a avid concert attendee, but I enjoyed Relient K even more in person. Their opening act Semler is a great addtion to the tour and probably my favorite part of the show.

    Overjoyed!

by Alex C on 2/20/22The Pageant - St Louis

Getting to St. Louis is a four-hour drive both directions for me. The forecast of sleet and snow might have kept me away from any other show - but not Relient K. And Relient K made the journey completely worthwhile! I was so happy to see one of my favorite bands of all-time reunited and enjoying performing together. From the opening of Who I Am to the close of Be My Escape - I was enthralled. My thanks to the band for a great show!

    Yes and yes

by lilweenie on 2/20/22The Pageant - St Louis

Relient k was killer. Not an excessive amount of crowd interaction, but that left more time for them to play, which I was into! Very nostalgic, you could tell they and their crowd were happy to be there sharing the nostalgic experience. Great pairing with Semler too. Wish I could afford to stalk them at every stop on this tour. Thank u!!!!

2022 They're back and better than ever

by mattyk on 2/20/22The Pageant - St Louis

Caught the first show of their "Um Yeah Tour" which happened to be where I live. That was a great thing in and of itself...after Covid and being absent for what seemed like at least 4 years we didn't know if they would get back together or ever tour again. 2021 announcement came for a new tour and I was ecstatic. Not only did they deliver practically every hit they ever had, more than 20 songs in the show, but they sounded better than ever...aged like a fine wine. They know what their audience wants and wants to hear. The audience reciprocates that relationship by singing along unforgettable lyrics we've grown with for the last 20 years. Here's hoping a new album comes our way soon after this engaging tour. Um, yeah...that would be great. MmmmmK

    Fan-fricken-tabulous

by Blamescott on 9/26/15The Intersection - Grand Rapids

Relient K had tons of energy and the crowd you could tell really loved it they sang along with the band and almost everyone knew the lyrics. One of the best concerts I've ever been too. The band really knows what the're doing and played flawlessly as Matt Thiessen sang beautifully. Matt Thiessen's interaction with the crowd was great. He's a funny and friendly guy and I could tell he really enjoyed being up their. Too bad he was sick though because though he's did great, he didn't sing to his full potential

    FABULOUS!!!!!

by Fourmile on 12/15/14Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

The concert was fabulous and I loved it. The concert was standing room only, but Relient K more than made up for that with their awesome performance.

    Concert was great

by Rsjfhskdfh on 12/15/14Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

We enjoyed the concert. It was a little hard to see the stage at times so we had to move around. We didn't care about the other bands playing. We just wanted to see Relient K.

    ALWAYS an amazing show

    by li3ons on 12/14/14Masquerade - Atlanta

I've seen Relient K several times live over the last 10 years, and they have NEVER failed to put on a great show. This show was pretty special for me - I was at their show in LA during their initial tour for MMHMM 10 years ago, and it's been one of my favorite albums ever since. This show was a whole evening filled with nostalgia and I loved every second of it. If you get the chance to see them live, do it!

Love the band but weird vibe

by Careth on 12/14/14Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

I love Relient K. The music was awesome, as usual. This was my fourth concert of theirs and a first for my husband. It was like they were mad or didn't want to be there. Matt Theissen did say he was sick but he kept mentioning "maybe you'll come to another show" in this weird tone. It was like he was annoyed or mad at us. Strange, considering he is usually funny and a pretty likable guy. I would still pay to see them in a heart beat but my husband and cousin were really let down.

    Relient K was absolutely amazing!

by Emerson5 on 12/14/14Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Despite Matt Theisson being sick for days leading up to the show, they put on an incredible performance! They played straight through the anniversary album and also played their most loved songs from their other albums. The crowd was extremely pumped for the entire show which made the experience even better. Overall, if an opportunity ever came up again for me to go to a Relient K show, I would go in a heart beat. I suggest their music to everyone and going to their concerts to anyone that enjoys their music!

Relient K awesome... once we finally heard them

by Lilphilam on 12/14/14Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Relient K rocks hard. The Mmhmm tour was a genius move on their end. You could tell they definitely hit a gold mine by playing all those classic songs. I don't think I've ever heard a crowd sing along as loud as Indy did. Only bummer for me was how long it took for them to finally play. Openers took WAY too long and they were pretty boring.
