RELIENT K IN CONCERT:

More than a decade after their powerful pop punk anthems launched them to stardom, Relient K continues to be a reliably awesome live act. Longtime fans will be ecstatic to hear a setlist packed with throwback favorites like "High Of 75" and "Be My Escape" along with tracks from the band's later releases, including 2013's Collapsible Lung. Frontman Matt Thiessen is especially entertaining onstage, captivating concertgoers with his personable and funny banter. With their fast-paced pop jams and emotionally charged sets, these Christian rockers always deliver a high-octane concert experience that leaves ticket buyers begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Vocalist Matt Thiessen, guitarist Matt Hoopes, and bassist Brian Pittman formed Relient K in 1998 in Canton, Ohio. The group incorporated spiritual themes into their pop punk tunes, quickly becoming a staple of the Christian rock scene. Christian label Gotee Records signed the band and released their self-titled debut album in 2000. They quickly amassed a huge following thanks to a heavy touring schedule and a catalog of upbeat tunes brimming with clever pop culture references. Their third album, 2003's Two Lefts Don't Make A Right...But Three Do, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album. In 2004 the group achieved mainstream stardom with the release of their fourth album Mmhmm, which spawned the Top 40 hits "Be My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been". The record debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart after receiving heavy radio airplay and exposure on MTV. Their next album,  2007's Five Score And Seven Years Ago, became their biggest hit to date, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. In 2014 Relient K announced a nationwide tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mmhmm, generating considerable excitement among fans before hitting the road with an updated lineup consisting of Thiessen, Hoopes, guitarist Jon Schneck, drummer Dave Douglas, and bassist John Warne, who replaced Pittman after his departure in 2004.

    Um, No…Part 2

by Brian on 3/30/22Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

Relient K performed extremely well as I would have expected. They’ve never disappointed me in a performance. But, “this is the end as we know it” in our journey together. The choices in health checks and the opening act have solidified that for me. I’ve been a fan for 20+ years… A Christian band has a responsibility to lead. I considered bringing my children to the concert, but am glad now that I didn’t. I’m very disappointed in the choices made for this tour. So long guys and thanks for the memories. 😞

    Skittles and Combos

by JB on 3/30/22House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Semler was an awesome opening act, and RK sounded like they hadn’t missed a beat. Here’s to hoping we get some new music!

    Reliving my childhood….

Loved the venue. Loved the band. I’ve been listening to Relient K for 22 years and it was great to see them live.

    Opening Act was Inappropriate

by PSUAmanda on 3/29/22Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

The opening act was extremely inappropriate for a Christian concert. She dropped the F bomb in a song multiple times while a church youth group was front and center. She has some really good songs and funny songs but the ones she picked were not appropriate. RelientK was amazing as always. Anytime I can go to their concerts I go. The set was awesome and everyone was enjoying and singing along. The venue was also magnificent.

    Rockin’

by Colleen on 3/25/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

It was a little confusing as to when the show was going to start as the website said one time, the tickets said another and then the doors didn’t actually open until way after those times. But once the show started, it was good for the soul!

Pros and cons to such a small venue, but the show itself was great.-

Um Yeah Relient K On Tour

by Sofia on 3/25/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

I grew up on Relient K. I used to have one of those chunky CD players- you know the ones, the big speakers that look like eyes of a fly- and I played 5 Score and 7 Years ago on repeat. Eventually I burst through that bubble and left that CD player behind but my love of Relient K, loud guitars and sappy lyrics remained. The Um Yeah Tour is a stunning return to live music for Relient K. The set list was a beautiful blend of songs that spanned across their discography and the energy was high. Everything was as I remembered it, insence burning and fans singing along like no time had passed since their last Boston appearance in '17. We jumped, we sang, we chanted for Matt Hoopes. It was a brilliant show with super respectful and kind fans, 10/10.

    Fantastic Concert!

by Grace on 3/21/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

Relient K is my favorite band and I was stoked to see them performing live again after 5+ years of waiting! Show was the perfect size and the venue was perfect for the number of people attending it. I'm a very short person but was able to grab a spot behind the sound booth and was actually able to see everything almost perfectly. Fantastic band and great venue!

    They are the absolute best!

by Grateful Mom on 3/21/22Irving Plaza - New York

I have been to many, many of Relient K's concerts. This one was just as excellent as all the others. Matt, Matt, Jon, Ethan and Dave give such an amazing performance every time. They poor their heart and soul into it and their music is absolutely incredible. My daughter and I have been going to their concerts together since she was in high school, and we love to see them every time they are near Philly.

    Must see show!

by Sayruh F on 3/18/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

Enjoyed this show. If you ever get the chance to see Relient K - GO FOR IT. I just wish we could've been closer to the stage - the barricade was set up pretty far back.

    Relient K was superb, but…

by BekaG on 3/18/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

the opener left me confused. Semler left me confused and made me feel a little bit deceived. I did not expect the opener to a Christian artist to sing about not believing in God, curse, and make suggestive jokes. While I loved the performance by Relient K, I was disappointed that they made such a poor choice in their opener. The venue was clean and safe and did their best to accommodate the standing room only crowd.

    They crushed it

by Robert on 3/18/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

It was an incredible show! The mix sounded great; I felt like I could actually hear all the instruments and the vocals. High energy, and everyone in the crowd was singing like we were back in 2003.

    Best Night Ever

by middlenix on 3/18/22The Masquerade - Heaven - Atlanta

The sound quality was great and the band sounded awesome. The Masquerade was an amazing venue and I will remember that concert as one of the best I’ve been too. Everyone in there was really polite and it made my experience that much better.

    Relient K: Great/OrlandoHOB: Mixed Bag

by SonnieJ66 on 3/17/22House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

RK put on a fun show. The venue though was not ideal for the number of people in attendance: crowded standing room only on floor or cramped, obstructed viewing, standing on balcony. The sound was decent, though. A previous RK show at Janus Live in St. Petersburg was all around a better experience.

    Almost perfect

by Joe on 3/17/22House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Relient K was exactly what I expected. They played a great set and they sounded awesome. The opener Semler was a little interesting. She has an great sound and style. Not sure if it was a perfect pairing with Relient K, but she was still good. My only real issue was the content she used. It may have just been unrealistic expectations but I was hoping it would be a lighthearted concert and she seemed angry at the church and at God which kind of brought the mood down. Maybe she isn’t, but several people around me felt that tension too. As for the actual venue, it was very packed, but to be expected at the HoB.

    Crowded

by Jess on 3/17/22House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

We were packed in house of blues like sardines. We could barely walk. The opener was also oddly matched for the headliner.

    Terrible venue!

by Michael on 3/17/22House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

The doors opened at 6:30 and we arrived at 6:15 to get in line. However the line was so long and we waited for way over an hour to get in because they were understaffed and not prepared to bring in that many people. We missed most of the opener which we were there mostly to see. It was a very frustrating experience and in my opinion there were too many people stuffed into that venue, it did not seem safe. House of blues needs to get their act together for shows of that size.

    Umm Yeah

by Alex on 3/15/22House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

Relient K put on an AMAZING show! The venue was an appropriate size. The bartenders were very efficient and the drinks were great! After the show ended I felt that the fans were ushered out a little quickly, but it's understandable as it was late. I had a great experience and would definitely see another show.
