RELIENT K IN CONCERT:

More than a decade after their powerful pop punk anthems launched them to stardom, Relient K continues to be a reliably awesome live act. Longtime fans will be ecstatic to hear a setlist packed with throwback favorites like "High Of 75" and "Be My Escape" along with tracks from the band's later releases, including 2013's Collapsible Lung. Frontman Matt Thiessen is especially entertaining onstage, captivating concertgoers with his personable and funny banter. With their fast-paced pop jams and emotionally charged sets, these Christian rockers always deliver a high-octane concert experience that leaves ticket buyers begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Vocalist Matt Thiessen, guitarist Matt Hoopes, and bassist Brian Pittman formed Relient K in 1998 in Canton, Ohio. The group incorporated spiritual themes into their pop punk tunes, quickly becoming a staple of the Christian rock scene. Christian label Gotee Records signed the band and released their self-titled debut album in 2000. They quickly amassed a huge following thanks to a heavy touring schedule and a catalog of upbeat tunes brimming with clever pop culture references. Their third album, 2003's Two Lefts Don't Make A Right...But Three Do, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album. In 2004 the group achieved mainstream stardom with the release of their fourth album Mmhmm, which spawned the Top 40 hits "Be My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been". The record debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart after receiving heavy radio airplay and exposure on MTV. Their next album,  2007's Five Score And Seven Years Ago, became their biggest hit to date, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. In 2014 Relient K announced a nationwide tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mmhmm, generating considerable excitement among fans before hitting the road with an updated lineup consisting of Thiessen, Hoopes, guitarist Jon Schneck, drummer Dave Douglas, and bassist John Warne, who replaced Pittman after his departure in 2004.

    FREAKING AWESOME SAUCE

by Katowskis on 7/13/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Totally satisfied, 100%! The music was awesome (The Classic Crime being the best for my taste) and it was affordable, too. I liked how small it was, and how under control everyone was. It was a good experience, and the only change I would want is intense air conditioning! :D It was really hot in there and I was dancing and jumping the entire time, so I was soaked. ^_^ Total fun, I had a blast.

I had a blast with these guys!

by technochocolate on 7/13/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

This sold-out show was one of the highlights of my year so far. I've been a huge fan of Relient K for years, and their show was not a disappointment. The Wonder Ballroom is a very small venue, so we were all crammed very tightly (typical for rock concerts). I managed to push my way to the front right at the beginning, lucky me! The first opener was The Classic Crime. I hadn't heard about them before, but their music was pretty good. I can't give too much of a review for this one, because my ears weren't used to the noise yet and missed a lot of their songs lol. But I think that anyone who likes Relient K should give them a try. The next opener was Owl City, a techno joint that was very very happy. Sort of dreamy music that was very pretty, if a little nerdy. I liked it. :) Then there was the band we all came to see, Relient K! They were nothing short of excellent. They played a lot of older stuff that everyone knows and loves; it's always fun to sing along with Mood Rings, right? There were several new songs that I was very impressed with. Since I'm not too up on their album Birds and the Bee Sides, I wasn't sure which songs were from that album and which were unreleased. Either way, the song The Thief was stellar. They also made sure that we just had a lot of fun. There was a song dedicated to The Office, and a little number on "5 Dollar Foot Longs." Very very funny! Plus, the "ONE MORE SONG" pounding after they left the stage earned us a moving rendition of Deathbed. At the end of the night, I was dripping with sweat (both mine and Matt Thiessen's, rofl!), bruised on the ribs (moshing has its price), and slightly deaf. But MAN was it worth it! I recommend going to see Relient K any chance you get! The tickets are almost always cheap.

Reliant K have interesting music and lyrics

    by jonny47 on 7/13/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Great Show. I liked Owl City, I think they fit in better than the other opening band-It was in Portland, OR. Could have just been Owl City and left more time for more songs from Reliant ever-increasing great songlist.

    Great show!

by Sadira on 7/13/09INDIGO DISTRICT - Eugene

I loved Classic Crime. Great opening band. I could've lived without Owl City. ALL their songs sounded the same. Relient K didn't disappoint. Great sound, great stage presence. Loved it! My only complaint was that the venue was waaayyy to small for the show. We were packed tighter then sardines in there. The McDonald would have been much better. Overall though, it was great.

    Great Show as always

by RelientKC on 7/7/09Granada - Lawrence

The show was excellent as expected. Relient K continues to show they are very under-rated in the music business. They continue to crank out songs and make it fresh every time you hear it live as this is the 5th time I've seen them in concert. I really wish they'd get more respect and more play-time on Popular Radio.

    Relient K: w-o-w

    by Red23 on 7/6/09Granada - Lawrence

I'd have to say that Relient K was one of the best concerts that I've ever been to. It's not hard when they are your favorite band, but they did everything just right. It seemed like they were tapping in to my brain to know what song should be played next. They played all the best of the best. In addition, they added a few parodies in b/w songs just to give us a laugh including "The Office" theme song and Subway's "Five-dollar-foot-long" song. In the end, I didn't want to leave. They could have played all night.

    Great Peformances

by runpink on 7/3/09Granada - Lawrence

Bummed that Quietdrive didn't show, but Owl City was better than expected and Relient K simply put on a great show. Played a lot of their old stuff, which was definitely a positive thing. I've been told that Relient K isn't as good live, but this show has proved otherwise. Great performers!

    RELIENT K = AMAZING

    by 1Mom1Daughter on 7/3/09Granada - Lawrence

This is the 4th time my daughter and I have seen Relient K in concert. They are AMAZING everytime!!! This time they played songs that we hadn't heard them do live before along with two new songs that will be released with their new album in October. This venue was the smallest that we have been to, but the crowd was incredible - singing along with every song!!! These guys are so fun to watch! Their message is so positive and it was great to see so many young people catching on to their fire! Can't wait to see them again and again!!!!!!
