    Wonderful executed performance!!

    by Stella Portocarrero on 10/15/23

This Nutcracker was one of the best I’ve attended!! My family and I have been to a couple in and out of state and this one easily pulled my eye. The costumes, choreography, and props were all beautifully executed. The music and dancing was stunning and the little ones as mice and candy were just the cutest. The venue and the stage caught my eye as soon as i walked in, the audience was well behaved and better than I imagined. Overall this performance was a spectacular Christmas show and I will definitely be attending more of their performances.

Venue nice, quality of show not on par with ticket price

by Disappointed on 6/11/23Capital One Hall - Tysons

Based on what I paid ($75), I was expecting a more polished performance (for example, the music was being played from a phone which rang twice during the performance). The dancers themselves were good for their age (very cute), but I was disappointed that it was not clear this was a dance school performance in the description of the event and it was not reflected in the pricing of the event either.

    Strange Ending

by Will on 6/11/23Capital One Hall - Tysons

It was my first ballet where there was no orchestra. So, they used music. It hurt the performance. The dancers were not always in-time, which ballet requires. Then, the weirdest thing happened at the end of the show. The house speakers rang, like a cell phone rang over the house speakers projecting the Swan Lake climactic music! It was horrible, totally ruined my experience.

    Box tickets not available???

by Grandma on 6/11/23Capital One Hall - Tysons

I was disappointed that box tickets were not offered for sale on the first day of ticket sales. I purchased others on the main floor. The performance was beautiful. I only wished I could have seen it from a higher elevation.

Great show. Audience - not so much

by BCinDC on 6/11/23Capital One Hall - Tysons

Talented performers in a stunning venue but our fellow audience members left much to be desired. Children too young to be at this type of event were disruptive, add to that mobile phones, smart watches flashing on and off, and the crunch crunch crunch of potato chips from the concession stand. Likely the nature of a dance recital with excited family members and others not used to live performance etiquette. Recommendation: Try to book first row of one of the balconies.

    Not what I expected

by Sarah on 12/14/22Capital One Hall - Tysons

I wasn’t aware this was a community production. For the price I paid, I was expecting something more. Numerous things that come with a community production from breaking props, dropped props, weirdly placed curtain drops for extended scene changes (the audience thought it was an intermission in the dark!). Just not what I was planning on for that price - it was similar to watching a school production with the poor audio recording.

    Wonderful Dancing!

    by Shelby on 4/5/22

I went to see Ravel’s performance of The Nutcracker and absolutely adored every minute. The younger classes were perfectly charming and adorable as baby mice and sweets, and as each dancer went up in grade, so too did their technique and skill with such a difficult artistic medium! Their soloists and principals were particularly impressive, including a mixture of both senior students and professionals who work in the studio teaching or as guest artists, and I was enchanted through their finale. Their costumes were gorgeous, and their simple sets still told a beautiful story, and I applaud their debut in such a grand new hall.

it was really bad show especially at the begining

by Ed on 12/10/21Capital One Hall - Tysons

the delay in starting, then the miss alignment of the crew while dancing followed by the 5 min break to do another 5 min show and then 15 min break. it was so badly managed. we have been to different musical shows for the Nut Cracker and sorry but I can say this was one of the worst.

    Should be a family/friend performance

by Twinkletoes on 12/8/21Capital One Hall - Tysons

The costumes were beautiful, everything else was an issue. The choreography was boring, the dancers struggled to get over their boxes en pointe and most required the help of a male partner to keep them upright. There were too many technical issues with scene transitions. At one point the curtain came down for 5 minutes in the middle of the act. This would do best as a local family/friend performance. Not something staged at a theatre of this caliber where anyone can buy tickets

Great performers, sound was less great

by Bob on 12/8/21Capital One Hall - Tysons

Enjoyed the performance of the Nutcracker and it was great to see young performers on a big stage. The sound was not so great. This is our third show at Capitol Halls (orchestral, singer, ballet) and each have had very poor sound for the audience. Not sure if it is the hall, or the set up, but there needs to be an audio engineer employed to sort it out
