RATATAT IN CONCERT:

Rocktronica duo Ratatat is a favorite of headbangers and ravers alike thanks to their irresistible mix of colossal riffs and booming beats. Mike Stroud’s six-string heroics and Queen-inspired guitar harmonies perfectly complement the band’s sci-fi synthesizers, and Evan Mast’s thunderous, booming basslines on fan favorites like “Loud Pipes” and “Shiller” always get ticket buyers shaking their moneymakers on the dance floor. In addition to plenty of funky jams, the duo treats audiences to a visual spectacle as psychedelic graphics and laser lights dance across projection screens. Fans that like to rock until the break of dawn and dance the night away will find plenty to love every time Ratatat bring their thumping grooves on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Evan Mast (bass/synth/percussion/production) and Mike Stroud (guitar/synth/percussion) originally met as students at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, but they didn’t begin collaborating on music together until 2001. Using Mast’s production equipment and Brooklyn apartment as their home base, Ratatat independently recorded and released their self-titled debut in 2004. The album helped the band land opening spots for artists as diverse as Björk, Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend, and The Killers. The band picked up even more steam by appearing at popular music festivals and releasing their sophomore outing Classics in 2006. Their next three albums -- LP3 (2008), LP4 (2010), and Magnifique (2015) -- all cracked the Billboard 200, and the band’s fanatical following continued to grow. Ratatat continue to please rock and electronica enthusiasts around the globe with their amazing musicianship, top-notch productions, and psychedelic stage shows.

One of the better shows I've been to in awhile. The light show was out of this world.

    Stellar!

by Allygator on 4/20/15House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

I've been wanting to see Ratatat ever since i was introduced to them and scooped up tickets to the sold out show as soon as they went on sale. I was not disappointed! The light show was AMAZING and the band's energy only supplemented it. Their classics and new songs were played. I imagine their popularity has taken a sky rise due to Coachella but it still was an intimate feeling show. Really diverse crowd but everyone was low key and friendly. Lots of bored looking girlfriends in attendance but the active fans had a blast. If you like strobes, lasers, streaming visuals with high energy music then this is a must-see show. On another note: I've never been through such strict security. It surprised me.

After a heavy rain shower, both your flip flops and hopes get a little damp as far as attending a concert. However, it turned out to be great time. This was my third or fourth time seeing RATATAT, and although it was weird not having their cutting synths reverberating off walls, Summerstage provided a nice open-air experience for enjoying one of my favorite Electronic bands. In my experience, Summerstage is always fun.

First opening act was hilarious as well as talented. I was very surprised that someone calling himself "Black Pus" would turn out to be a gifted musician. As for the second opening act, Omar Suleman, I'm not sure quite what got him from Northern Syria to the middle act in a Ratatat concert. The guys themselves were great showmen. Lots of enthusiasm, good dynamics with the crowd, never messed up the music, and did a few creative things so the show didn't sound exactly like their recordings. A nice light show and strange video clips provided the perfect accompaniment. I hardly ever go to concerts but this was so worth it.

    Great Night

by Growie on 7/18/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

Very good concert - Ratatat delivered! It was my first time at the summerstage and I was pleased with the venue: nice location and stage. Not terribly crowded, definitely filled my quota of hipsters for the day though. The opening acts were mediocre, but that's beside the point. Ratatat delivered some of my favorites tunes and sounded just like I hoped they would.

    Great Show

The venue was a little overpriced, and it rained...but the acts were fantastic, and the staff at the event was very friendly and helpful.

The main course is usually the best

by lemontaste on 7/17/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

Doors opened at 5:30 but Ratatat didn't go on until 8:30 due to opening acts. Nowhere on any of the stubs or online did it mention all the openers but luckily my friends knew about it from previous experience so we hung out a bar before heading there at 7. The one opening act we saw was terrible beyond imagination (it also started to rain as soon as he opened his mouth and stopped when he closed it). Ratatat themselves were good although I feel that I would have enjoyed the background images a lot more if I wasn't sober. Seventeen years didn't have as much kick as I was expecting. My reasoning is that they overplayed it.

    Mezmorizing

by Saraj15 on 7/16/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

The opening performances were pretty strange and took too long. The 15 min downpour of freezing rain didn't help either, but once Ratatat came on...WOW. It really did take way too long for them to come out. We waited almost two and a half hours for Ratatat but it was pretty worth it. The music was awesome, the lights and graphics were awesome, just wished they spoke a little more. Overall, it was pretty sweet.

    WOO.

by loudpipes456 on 7/16/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

RATATAT put an an amazing show, everything was wonderful. I love, love, love them! my two complaints are: 1. the first guy that opened, black pus, was weird and..just...no. 2. it ended too early. 10:00 for a concert? especially ratatat... come on. I saw them at terminal 5 before and they ended at 12, MUCH more like it.

    RATATAT WAS EPIC

by ratatatlistener on 7/16/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

I was trying to explain to friends what made this concert so amazing and I just couldn't think of anything to say that would describe how great it was and how much I enjoyed it. The simple effects used on movie and video clips were fascinating and the clips projected on the two smaller "windows" had the same effect. With the video clips and the lighting, the effect was unimaginable. Thank you, Ratatat, for such an unforgettable experience!

A night of music in central park

by JohnCombs on 7/15/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

This was a great event overall. My first time seeing Ratatat live and they put on an awesome show. Their stage effects really added to the show, and the crowd went wild for most of the song. I also really liked the opener Omar Souleyman.. an interesting first taste of Syrian dance music and they really got the crowd fired up for Ratatat. High points: -Reaction from the crowd for many of the songs, -enduring a surprise downpour to see Ratatat and being gifted with a gorgeous sunset afterwards -guys selling nitrous balloons in central park after the show -exploring NYC before the show. - making my way to almost front row. Low points: -$8 beers (no thanks, tore off my wristband and trashed it), -The first opener "Black Pus" who was awful and more of an endurance exercise than a performer. Seriously, frantically bashing a drum coupled with the same droning effect for extended periods of time, and using vocal processing that makes it sound like a clothespin is permanently clamped on your nose makes for a pretty bad show. Only time I have seen a performer given thumbs down and flipped off by the audience.

Ratatat. yea you should definitely seem them live!

by BrooklynMagoo on 7/15/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

The venue was great and the crowd was awesome, too. I hadn't been to a concert in a long time and this was my first Ratatat concert. The audio/visuals just blew me away! They had unlimited energy and just fed off the crowd's energy. And we definitely gave them a lot. It rained HARD during a couple of performances before Ratatat came on, but I ducked under a tree with my bro and waited it out. Rain or shine.. I was not going to miss this performance. Man.. they had the best food (Asia Dog) and really good beer. I'll never forget this night. One of the best nights ever!! Do yourself a favor and book their tickets in Advance. They do get sold out quick!

    Awesome

by Robinnn on 7/15/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

One of the few bands today that are better live than they are recorded. Slideshows and lights were awesome that went with the songs. Crowd was relaxed and relatively tame. Great experience.

5 stars to Ratatat, 0 to their openers.

by adoogan on 7/15/11Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

they are so talented and their live songs sound exactly as they do in their album. i ioved their background video, too; it was entertaining, simple, and slightly ironic. their openers though... i thought i was being punished.
