RATATAT IN CONCERT:

Rocktronica duo Ratatat is a favorite of headbangers and ravers alike thanks to their irresistible mix of colossal riffs and booming beats. Mike Stroud’s six-string heroics and Queen-inspired guitar harmonies perfectly complement the band’s sci-fi synthesizers, and Evan Mast’s thunderous, booming basslines on fan favorites like “Loud Pipes” and “Shiller” always get ticket buyers shaking their moneymakers on the dance floor. In addition to plenty of funky jams, the duo treats audiences to a visual spectacle as psychedelic graphics and laser lights dance across projection screens. Fans that like to rock until the break of dawn and dance the night away will find plenty to love every time Ratatat bring their thumping grooves on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Evan Mast (bass/synth/percussion/production) and Mike Stroud (guitar/synth/percussion) originally met as students at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, but they didn’t begin collaborating on music together until 2001. Using Mast’s production equipment and Brooklyn apartment as their home base, Ratatat independently recorded and released their self-titled debut in 2004. The album helped the band land opening spots for artists as diverse as Björk, Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend, and The Killers. The band picked up even more steam by appearing at popular music festivals and releasing their sophomore outing Classics in 2006. Their next three albums -- LP3 (2008), LP4 (2010), and Magnifique (2015) -- all cracked the Billboard 200, and the band’s fanatical following continued to grow. Ratatat continue to please rock and electronica enthusiasts around the globe with their amazing musicianship, top-notch productions, and psychedelic stage shows.

    Ratatat might be the illest

by aMagikarpet on 1/19/16Echostage - Washington

After hearing Ratatat's recorded music, I was NOT expecting this caliber of epicness. Holy balls can these guys put on a show! The visuals were amazing, the lasers were awesome, and dat bass was nothing short of ridiculous. I gave 4 stars because of the audio imbalance. I don't know who was responsible for the mixing at Echostage, but the midrange was lacking, and the lead parts were sometimes completely inaudible. At multiple points in the show I could see an epic guitar solo happening, but I couldn't hear it at all! While this was a little disappointing, the show was still really incredible. If you're considering seeing Ratatat live, do it! I promise you won't regret it. I really enjoyed the headliner too, but some of my friends thought he was too weird. "Jackson and his Computer Band" if you want to check out his jams. His stuff was mixed well actually, which I don't understand, but whatevs.

    Must see Live

by jmadventures on 1/19/16Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

they were amazing to see live. They are amazing performers and are meant to been seen in a live venue. The light show was perfectly aligned with the music and everyone was having an incredible time.

GO IF THERE IS ANY WAY POSSIBLE THAT YOU CAN.

by RobertfromCharlotte on 1/19/16Echostage - Washington

Ratatat slays everything every time I see them. I saw them in Columbus in September and they ripped my face off, Washington was insane, and I'm heading back to see them in Raleigh tonight just three days later. Do. It.

90 min set, entertaining but not engaging

by Creeeg on 1/19/16Echostage - Washington

They didn't say anything about being in DC, or really say anything to the audience at all. The set was short, they really just played a couple songs.

Ratatat brought a phenomenal show; great stage presence and energy, wonderful music, sound quality, and a great light show.

    Awesome show

by Montanita on 1/19/16Echostage - Washington

One of the best concerts I've ever been to, and not just because I love Ratatat. The band was engaging onstage, the visuals were strange and unforgettable, and the lasers and energy were great. They played all of their hits, old and new, in a way that flowed and the time flew by.

    Simply amazing

    by FrankTheTank6969 on 1/19/16Echostage - Washington

Awesome lighting, sound, and overall performance. It was more of a sensory experience than a concert, in the best way possible.

    Ratatat was super fun show!

by guyettes on 1/17/16Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

These guys are rock gods! The event was packed. Great show, great videos, great musicians/artists. Who needs lyrics, when these guys say so much with their playing? Mike Stroud is the new Prince, this guy could play a pair of socks and make them sound good. The crowd loved them, you can really tell they like to perform too. 3 encores were not enough!

Awesome show, but general admission ticket at venue just ok. Bars were packed and disorganized. Very packed show. Ratatat was awesome though!!

Hot Sugar was good for getting us hyped. The music was stylish, beautiful and weird and I like weird. I just wish they advertised who he was better. I had to really dig to find out his stage name and where to find his music. Ratatat themselves opened like the gates of heaven! They mixed some of their past music with their new songs from "Magnifique". I was afraid that their so called experimental phase would end with their apparent return to their roots. I do wish they talked a little more in between songs; they were pretty shy. I guess the music is the most important part though. And Unfortunately their amazing light show included the use of flashing red and blue lights during one song (I think it was "Pricks of Brightness". There were warnings about flashing lights and lasers, but still, not cool... But their music was great! Everyone was dancing (so I had to stand so I could see the band...) and they played multiple instruments while it was only two guys onstage. I was glad I went...Until it rained after the concert (but you can't control the weather).

    Great Show but too short

by Anonymous on 9/14/15Uptown Theater - Kansas City

The show was fantastic - I highly recommend people to go see Ratatat live. However, they didn't play very long. The opener came on around 8:15 and played for almost an hour. Then Ratatat came on around 9:20 and finished by 10:40, it was kind of disappointing. I wish they played a longer set, at least 2 hours...

The whole package - lights & sound

by mikebellman on 9/14/15The Pageant - St Louis

By far the loudest concert I have attended. While in a smaller venue, it had bright lasers EVERYWHERE, 3 video walls and a full set up run by a board that Evan could control on stage. This is 2 guys who make these incredibly complicated and inter-woven songs. They don't use road musicians. it's just the 2 of them, playing on top of backing tracks, which in essence is what RATATAT is all about. The only thing I would change is that they don't use spotlights or illuminate from the front, so the concert of them playing is pretty dimly lit. The concert experience itself is immersive and dazzling, but you don't really get to see the artists playing as much as you might like. There are countless instruments set up around the talent to be played. Mike on (stage right) loves rocking out on his guitar and plays drums and keyboard throughout; often at the same time. Also played the Pedal steel guitar for a couple of tracks. Evan (stage left) seems to be the tech-master and plays bass, keyboards, drums, autoharp and countless pedal-driven sounds. Merch table had Cds for sale so I was able to get 2 out-of-circulation Cds to complete my Ratatat Anthology. Plus I know that these sales directly support the artist, which is something you don't often get to say when buying online or used. Evan and Mike were very approachable before and after the show. Got my 'Magnifique' CD cover autographed by both.

    Best light show ever

by CarsandWater on 9/13/15Uptown Theater - Kansas City

Ratatat preformed amazingly, and the light show was just as good. Holograms, Lasers , the works, coolest light show I have ever seen. I had never seen a hologram before and this was an awesome introduction.

Holy smokes (and laser and holograms...)

by toothgrin on 9/12/15The Pageant - St Louis

This was by far the most beautiful show I've ever seen. They did things with light waves that I've never even imagined, let alone seen in real life. Their visuals are always incredible (and often hilarious), but the addition of two hologram screens took it over the top. Single-beam lasers as bright as the sun, cross-hatched lasers that changed colors and shapes, and laser WAVES that literally undulated like a bed sheet in the wind. Absolutely mind-blowing, like stepping inside the Internet (if that makes any sense). The music was great, as expected, but the sound seemed off for most of the night. There was one song that had such mangled bass levels that I didn't even recognize it as being Ratatat - and I know the song! Sound aside, this is easily the best $25 (!!!) I've ever spent.

I really had second thoughts about going to this show, it was rainy, I had a long week and I was tired. I was amazed though and so glad I went! Ratatat exceeded all of my expectations and blew me away! The lights, the hologram screen, the guitar playing and music making was incredible, I go to A LOT of shows and this is definitely one of my favorites this year!

    Ratatat was incredible!

    by hipmom1017 on 9/8/15LC Pavilion - Columbus

As expected, Ratatat's live show was incredible. Between the visual aesthetics and the reverberation of the music to my depth, we were super impressed. Can't wait to hear more from them. We will definitely purchase tickets again. The opener, Fine Animal was very impressive also. Excited to see where they go!

Venue was awesome, band was awesome. Only minor complaint I have was that the sound was REALLY loud, which I get it, it's a concert, but some of the high notes Ratatat played were hurting my ears pretty bad. Still totally worth it though!
