RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:

Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

  • Great Friends, but not much more.

by MsBrittanyB on 1/27/13House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

I am happy that I have great friends and family that made my evening enjoyable because the venue and the music were sub par. The House of Blues is not a venue that I will want to go back to again. Expensive drinks and very tight quarters. It seems that any time I have ever been there, they oversell the venue and there is no room to dance or let alone move. As for the music, I was a bit underwhelmed. I have frequently listened to Railroad Earth's studio albums and some live recordings and consider myself a fan. I have seen them at a few music festival, but Friday night was the first time I had seen them play at their own concerts and I was disappointed :( Slow moving music that lacked that upbeat bluegrass beat and had very little enthusiasm. There seems to be very little musicianship going on between the members and they frankly looked bored playing. The band/audience energy was also lacking. At the end of the night, I left feeling a bit bored. I hope that they were just having an off night :)

  • Railroad Earth Weekend Was Fantastic!

by Kentpeace on 11/26/12Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

This has become a Thanksgiving tradition for our group of Hobos. The music and stage was great, as always. Members if the band sat in with the other bands that were playing at various bars in town. The band "Yarn" and "Miz" were my other favorites. This is a tradition that keeps getting better each year.

Railroad Earth is my favorite band, hands down. Show was high energy, great lighting, fun, lots of my friends there, great drinks, great time. Their shows usually kick my butt and this was no exception. I think the venue is a great venue. Some of the people there not so much.

They have it all, amazingly talented musicians, beautifully written music and lyrics, powerful and fun improvisation. Can't believe I'm still getting to see them for $20 at the paradise, they should be filling arenas.

  • RRE brought the heat

by HOBOd on 2/9/12The Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Railroad Earth at least 11 times and this was definitely the best show that I have seen them play. The set list was perfect. There were definitely a lot of people there enjoying their first RRE experience. If you have never seen these guys before you should definitely go and bring friends. You should enjoy yourself and drink about 7 beers.

  • GREAT!!

by LinesGoingSouth on 2/6/12Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen RRE around 10 times or so, and this show was as good as any show if not better. The show was sold out and to my recollection this is the first time they have sold out the Variety. The song selection was excellent and the crowd was pumped. You could tell there were quite a number of noobs to the RRE experience and they seemed to enjoy themselves. I would highly recommend everyone who likes to have a good time check these guys out, I think they are the best touring band right now.

This band is absolutely one of the best touring jam bands around. I can't say enough about them. This show was awesome. Looking forward to some summer festival touring to see them again.

  • 1st sherman horn o plenty

by foophie on 11/29/11Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

The week before at the Beachland Ballroom Railroad Earth blew me away..but in front of their home crowd it was a different show. A good comfort zone for the genius that is Railroad Earth...., very ralaxed atmosphere but still high energy for dancing. I was so jazzed over the whole experience that I am already planning on going again next year.

  • RRE and the Hobos make this a beautiful event

by Kentpeace on 11/29/11Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

Railroad Earth came ready to play this weekend. The friendly atmosphere of all of the venues and positive energy lead by fiddle player, Tim Carbone, was heart warming. The jams were long and HOT!

incredible band, incredible show, incredible people

  • FUN time with awesome pre and post show

by GregBfromCO on 11/28/11Sherman Theater - StroudsburgRating: 5 out of 5

It's not fair to call this a concert.... it's more of an event. Two nights of Rail Road Earth, with awesome pre show and post show at three local bars. Saturday they had a Rail Road Earth cover song contest, cool art galleries, and the Mardi Grais style of parade down Main Street leading people to the Saturday night show was FUN.. I made my way to this from Colorado, and expect that I will again next year.
