About

RAILROAD EARTH IN CONCERT:

Progressive bluegrass band Railroad Earth combines virtuosic musicianship, extensive improvisation, and psychedelic visuals to deliver a world-class concert experience that's rooted in tradition yet firmly forward-looking. The group's rootsy, Americana-infused sound takes on new dimensions at their live shows, where amplified mandolin, guitar, and lap steel combine to create a mind-blowing swirl of bluegrass instruments. The band totally rocks out as they bring tracks like "Elko" and the 15-minute "Like a Buddha" to life on tour, inspiring ear-to-ear grins and euphoric dancing among concertgoers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Jersey-based Railroad Earth formed in 2010 around the songwriting of former From Good Homes frontman Todd Sheaffer. Under the guidance of manager Brian Ross, Sheaffer linked up with a group of talented bluegrass players, and the success of their initial jam sessions gave birth to Railroad Earth. Within several months the band had already released their debut album The Black Bear Sessions and performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where their high-energy set knocked fans’ socks off and earned them a deal with Sugar Hill Records. In 2002 they released their sophomore album Bird In A House, supporting it with a string of boot-stomping performances that floored fans across the country, who began calling themselves “hobos” in honor of the band’s vintage Americana leanings. A string of popular albums followed throughout the ‘00s, and the band’s rigorous touring schedule in support of the releases established them as festival favorites. In 2014 Railroad Earth released their seventh album Last of the Outlaws, a critical success that led to a sold-out show at Red Rocks and a concert DVD release of the epic performance.

  • RRE did not disappoint

by Sr on 2/23/20The Fillmore Charlotte presented by Cricket Wireless - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

RRE is finding their groove since the unfortunate passing of Andy. Lots of new takes on old standards. Wish they would mix a few covers in the set but overall it’s like catching up with old friend.

Excellent show Railroad Earth is a talented band They are as good as it gets! Featuring. Peter Rowan revisiting his Old and in the way album from the early Seventies was well done All the musicians played each song as if they owned it! So good !! Peter Rowan was able to sing his heart out. He also reminisced about the original banjo player on that album. As he said Jerome Garcia . Plus honorable mention to The Capitol Theatre! It was a great night .

  • Fantastic Show!

Peter Rowan was amazing! I've seen him before, but he and RRE were really in a groove. By the time they played 'Land of the Navajo' I was practically in tears. Then, RRE came out and played another full set of their own music! All my favorites! And Peter came back out and played an encore with them. Overall amazing night!

Was expecting more songs by old and in the way. Surprised to hear space really didn’t care for that. Also the lighting was WAY to bright

Wow what an incredible set featuring original group member Peter Rowan with RRE!!! What really surprised me was how wonderful Peter Rowan’s voice still is after all these years... RRE was superb performing the album and then a super long set of their own songs, a great night all in all!!!

What a show! Three hours of jamming bliss! Young sax man Zach Gilbert a real highlight.

  • 1st RRE for me since Andy...

by Chetreli on 2/10/20Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

RRE firing on all cylinders! This was my first time seeing the band since Andy Goessling’s untimely passing. As I was mentioning this to my crew, the hobo in front of us offered “it took 2 new members to fill the void”. One on keys, the other bouncing from acoustic guitar to banjo to pedal steel. The keys in RRE had me a bit skeptical, ultimately I was won over by the full, rich sound. A young man sat in on saxophone for a couple tunes. He even played 2 saxes at once ala Andy. Turns out he was a friend of the band’s nephew and had been raised on RRE. Larry Keel joined the band briefly and raised the roof during a dueling jam with Carbone. All in all a fantastic show! I can’t wait to see them again!

Simply a wonderful day. The sound guys were top-notch, I've never a heard a poor sounding Railroad Earth show. I'm still waiting to hear Bird in the House live though - maybe the next show : )

  • Amazing

by Derek on 2/18/19The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Had listened to Railroad Earth for years, and had only seen them in a small park here in Portsmouth NH. The show was great, but did not prepare me for what they had in store for this show at the Wilbur. I was completely blown away! I have been to hundreds of shows over the years, and this was definitely in my top 10. I’d put them up there with TTB! The Lighting, many instruments, and the way they played together... top notch!

  • Railroad Earth is the best band on our Railroad Earth.

by David Nepveu on 2/18/19The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

In October Andy Goessling passed away. It left along with a great loss and sadness a huge void in the way the band connected with each other instrumentally. There came a moment in the show during 12 Wolves when I realized that RRE had evolved into its next stage of existence with Holly Bowling and Mike Robinson as they connected musically with the band. They’ve evolved into a thing of beauty that Andy would love and I certainly love. The musicians of RRE have a way of blending the sound of their individual instruments together seamlessly. I feel it moves my mind, body and soul feeling as if somehow connected to my very own DNA.
