About

Queen + Adam Lambert on Tour

In 2018, the legend of Queen — the larger-than-life band that's been making grandiose, orchestrally inspired rock songs since 1970 — came to the big screen with Bohemian Rhapsody, a film about the life of original lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Led by Mercury and charged by the pyrotechnic guitars of Brian May, the commanding drums of Roger Taylor, and the rumbling yet melodic basslines of John Deacon, Queen blazed a bright trail through the rock world in the 1970s and '80s. They showcased their stunning vocal harmonies on tracks like the mini-epic "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the peppy "Don't Stop Me Now." They showed off their wide range on sonically disparate tracks like the disco-tinged "Another One Bites the Dust," the sweetly longing "Somebody to Love," and the arena staple "We Will Rock You."

Mercury passed away in 1991, but his legacy loomed large, and Queen's presence on classic rock radio and in pop culture resulted in the band commanding the imaginations of younger listeners. One of those fans was Adam Lambert, a San Diego singer who sang "Bohemian Rhapsody" when he tried out for the eighth season of American Idol.

Powered by his inventive reworkings of songs, towering voice, and overwhelming charisma, Lambert finished second in the show's 2009 balloting. May and Taylor — who appeared on that season's finale and performed with Lambert and eventual winner Kris Allen — were keenly aware of Lambert's range and innovation.

Lambert, May, and Taylor first performed as a unit at the MTV Europe Awards in November 2011, and a year later they played their first concert as Queen + Adam Lambert. Since then, they've toured the world, honoring Mercury's memory while bringing Queen's electrifying catalog to life on a nightly basis. In 2019, Queen + Adam Lambert will embark on the Rhapsody Tour, a 23-date North American tour that, in the words of May, will "rip it apart and get even more ambitious" than their previous jaunts.

One of the ten-best shows I've ever seen

by Anonymous on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

I've been a Queen fan forever but have never considered myself particularly fanatic or over-knowledgable about them. I have always liked Adam Lambert and, having seen Lambert perform live on his "For Your Entertainment" tour some years back, knew he had the stage presence and vocal range to do well with the Queen material. But the show was phenomenal. Easily in my ten best. I was shocked at how blown away I was. There were a few technical questions because soundcheck ran late, the pre-curtain opening sequence repeated three times and then Lambert's mic crapped out during the very first song. (I found out later that this was the opening show of the tour.) Second song was "Stone Cold Crazy," which I was surprised to hear and then it was off to the races. The crowd was kind of lame and only seemed to know maybe half the songs but our seats were pretty good, the set and effects were spectacular, Lambert's range was terrific and they did an extremely professional and KISS-precise show that was two hours on the nose. Lambert even put on the crown for the encores, which I thought was kind of gutsy. I have seen hundreds of shows in my time and have seen many good to very good to great shows that are very professional and satisfying (both Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles last year come to mind) but I was not expecting to have such a reaction to this. If you can see this, don't miss it.

Concert was amazing. Adam's vocals were on point, as always. Brian killed it on the guitar. And Roger amazed us with a drum-off with his son. All the musical numbers were great and the crowd was electric and singing along.

Not enough superlatives to tell you how great this show is! They totally rocked the arena and again last night in Winnipeg. Best rock show ever! Adam Lambert is a perfect fit to front Queen and the love and respect among the performers is plain to see. Adam slays his performances of the Queen catalog with a voice superior to all others!!! Go see this show if you can, you won't regret it!

Queen + Adam Lambert = Rock n Roll Perfection

by Amberboc on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

As an old time Queen fan and a newly minted Glambert, I was hopeful that this show would be good. It was not only good, it surpassed all my expectations. Brian May was brilliant on guitar, Roger Taylor was impeccable on the kit and Adam Lambert channeled Freddie Mercury from start to finish. His vocals soared to the highest reaches of the stadium and he strutted the stage like he owned it. He was born to sing, and perform these songs. The costume changes, laser lights and glitter explosions at the end reminded me why I love arena rock shows so much. And the disco ball! Lol! All in all it was the best concert I've seen in forever.

    Totally blew me away!

    by bandit156 on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

Freddie must be smiling. Queen are still rock gods and Adam Lambert fit right in! Adam showed his maturity and his ability to adapt and go off script was endearing. Their tribute to Freddie was brilliant. A friend of mine said it perfectly: "Freddie Mercury wrote the book and Adam Lambert wrote the sequel!"

Queen + Adam Lambert was A-mazing

by sili on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

We thought that the whole process of getting into United Center with the masses, 10,000+, went really smoothly. The minute that Adam shone through the "curtain" everyone stood up and that's the way it was for 2 rocking hours. Adam is a perfect fit for Queen. We loved the lights, flash back to Freddie Mercury et al and the projections of the group on the backdrops. Very well staged. The sound was fantastic, loud and what we expected and wanted.

Between my husband and I, we have been to a ton of concerts. Queen with Adam lambert was by far the best concert either of us has ever seen!!! I have adored Adam since he was on American idol. Just thrilled for him that queen has adopted him! It's a win/win situation for queen and Adam. I would say the crowd was 50% queen fans and 50% Adam fans! Was magnificent!!!!

    Freddie will live on!!!!

by JayNStL on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

Although the venue was a total cluster, the outcome was awesome. After starting almost 45 minutes late and losing Adams mic in the opening number, was certainly worth it. Already planning on attending another show on the tour.

Queen always great - Adam Lambert was a revelation

by SheerHeartAttack on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

Brian May remains of of Rock's guitar gods, and the sound he provides from his homemade guitar is astounding to this day. Roger Taylor, perhaps the most underrated singer/songwriter/ musician and drummer ever, still has the chops. Together they were always the power side of Queen. This tour will make Adam Lambert a superstar. I'd never really seen him perform, maybe a youtube video of some performance with Queen, but nothing prepared me for how special this guy is. The bests part was they seemed to enjoying performing together on opening night.

Queen + Adam Lambert was spectacular in every way!

    by karin4000 on 6/22/14United Center - Chicago

Yes, yes, Adam is not Freddie. We all get it. Now, let's move on. Brian and Roger seem revitalized, the additional musicians are tight and professional, and Adam Lambert is a spectacular front man for the music of Queen. His vocal ability and stage presence are unique in today's rock world. Standout moments: Roger having a drum battle with his son, Brian alone on stage with his guitar, Adam alternating lines with an on-screen Freddie to finish Bohemian Rhapsody, and Adam's costumes, energy and vocals!! A must see show!
