    Pleasant New Year's Eve

by JFfromColumbus on 1/2/13Southern Theatre - Columbus

A chamber orchestra, a dixieland band and a couple random singers dabbling in gangnam style choreography (your board member who wanted to sing his child's Mona Lisa bedtime song on stage?!) was an odd combination, but I think that was the point. Overall, an enjoyable and "low impact" New Year's eve. My senior-age mother loved it.

    Promusica is great!

by XXXOO on 1/2/13Southern Theatre - Columbus

What a wonderful group of talented musicians! Their ability and willingness to play music ranging from classical to rock and roll is very much appreciated, and that diversity certainly adds to the concert experience. We especially enjoyed the incredible High Street Stompers and look forward to hearing more from that group.

    Heart warming

by GoodNeighbor on 4/24/12Southern Theatre - Columbus

From the first note to the last I was mesmerized by the gentle "folding" and blending of musical sounds embracing the audience's ears while each instrument became one. The artistry was at least superb creating an audible "after glow" that will resonate with me for a long long time. I knew this was going to be a special evening when we arrived and the doors were opened widely as we entered creating a heart warming welcome that reminded me of days gone by in grande theater events. Then to end the evening with a warm and engaging conversation with Vadim Gluzman tastefully accented with delicious pastries provided the perfect aftertaste.

Dragon Year Bodes Well For Classical Music

by Zeeboxer on 1/24/12Southern Theatre - Columbus

Concerts like this, if attended, will increase the fan base of classical concerts. Such a variety of musical styles and inventiveness was displayed. Each piece required a different mix of instruments. Beginning with a less well-known Mozart symphony, with only oboe and bassoon woodwinds - no flutes or clarinets. But the double-reeds really shined. Followed by unusual, contemporary Chinese composer compositions which used the instruments in different ways. It was a challenge to know which instrument was playing which sound. The capstone of the evening was the awesomely talented Di Wu pianist playing Chopin's concerto #1 with fire, brilliance and tenderness. There was no shortage of suppleness and technique, but far beyond that was the musicality conveyed. Beyond all my expectations.

Bringing in New Year with Promusica

by OrliColumbus on 1/2/12Southern Theatre - Columbus

We were glad we were part of the first time Promusica New Year Celebration event and plan on going next year. We liked the mix of music, both Viennese waltzes and Broadway songs were classics. The performers were Broadway were experienced pros who just did not sing but brought you into the story of the song. The evening's atmosphere was fun and elegant , setting the right mood for bringing in the New Year.

    New Year's concert

by inColumbus on 1/2/12Southern Theatre - Columbus

A lovely evening with lovely music and a wonderful orchestra. I wished for the waltzes to have a more sweeping flow though. One negative for me is the use of microphones for the soloists, especially at such an intimate venue as The Southern Theater.

    promusica concert

    by jmusiclover23 on 11/15/11Southern Theatre - Columbus

The visuals added a wonderful dimension to an already stellar performance. The enthusiasm of the performers and conductor was infectious. As always the intimate space of the Southern enhances the connection between the orchestra and audience.

    Percussionist was amazing!

by Anonymous on 10/12/10Southern Theatre - Columbus

I really enjoyed: Mussorgsky - "Pictures at an Exhibition" Prokofiev - "Symphony No. 1" I'm not a fan of Shostakovitch. Atonal music is not a favorite. Shostakovitch - "Concerto for Violincello and Orchestra No. 1" The encore piece by Bach made up for it, at least for me. We look forward to many more performances at ProMusica this season

    Terrific performance

by WRBR on 4/11/10Southern Theatre - Columbus

I decided to get the tickets primarily because of the Beethoven piece that they were performing and it was great as expected. I was also pleasantly surprised by the performance by Joshua Roman. His performance was wonderful.

    First timer was astounded.

by Eeeb on 1/10/10Southern Theatre - Columbus

Astounded is the best description when I saw just how wonderfully Promusica has developed. I have read of them over the years but never expected the caliber of performance I encountered with Dynamic Duos. The ensemble and the visiting artists obviously enjoyed performing. And that enjoyment was shared by the house.

    Promusica was awesome!

by PhDad on 12/13/09Josephinum - Columbus

Loving baroque music, but having never been to a live performance, this was an amazing experience. The music was great, the introductions and audience interaction was friendly, and the venue was inviting. We would defintely go again!
