About

Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum, along with their records, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver (1996), Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013) and Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015), all three of which earned Grammy nominations. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry “Ler” LaLonde on guitar and Tim “Herb” Alexander on drums. Primus have delighted audiences all over the world with their oddball lyricism and out-of-the-box approach to music for over 40 years, and continue to be dedicated to bringing their innovative discography on the road.

Primus was okay. I guess when you pay $49.00 GA for tickets to see Primus one would think they would at least play 'My Name Is Mud'. Also, when the show ended they just left. No "thanks for coming out to the show", or anything. Gogol Bordello's music made me think 'Borat' was going to come on stage at anytime and pick up an instrument.

GREAT show! The Dead Kenny G's were a surprisingly entertaining group. Very off the wall and original jazz stylings with a bit of a hard edge. Gogol Bordello was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best live acts I've ever seen. The audience had a lot of Primus fans, since they were headlining, and I got the feeling that the people that knew much or anything about Gogol were in the minority. Throughout the course of their electrifying set, Gogol had won over the entire crowd, whipping them into a frenzy of good-natured hell raising. The atmosphere they created is like no other live act I've seen. Primus was good. They are of course, incredibly talented and have a huge catalog from which they pulled some of their more obscure songs, which was cool. However, the energy of the crowd was so high after Gogol Bordello that I wonder if screeching to a halt with slow, heavy songs and 10 minutes of improv (in almost every song) was the way to go. Primus delivered virtuosity as expected, and Les has a great rapport with the audience, but it was not as much of a fun atmosphere once they began to play. Overall, an amazing night, and an amazing show. I would recommend this to anyone.

  • PRIMUS at Williamsburg Waterfront

by efiore on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

The Dead Kenny G's opened the show with a twenty minute set of jazz and punk from what appeared to be a pretty talented trio of musicians. Great saxophone player, the drummer tackled xylophone and drums at the same time and good bass player holding it together. Gorgol Bordello played an hour long set of energetic gypsy punk and their fans loved them. I am unfamiliar with their music, but I left impressed with talent and charisma. Primus came on after 8, opening with "Pudding Time" followed by "Here Come the Bastards". The set was very strong with songs like "Harold of the Rocks", "American Life", "Jerry was a Racecar Driver", "Pressman". "Southbound Pachyderm" was awesome as was "Over the Electric Grapevine". Sadly, no "My Name is Mud", but when they finished their encores with "Tommy the Cat", I couldn't say I felt cheated. Beautiful outdoor venue, saw Faith No More there at the beginning of the month and this was another great show. Look forward to more concerts in this performance space.

  • Beyond great

    by abh807 on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

This whole show was pretty awesome, as evidenced by the massive crowd stretching all the way back to the water. The venue was pretty cool but I wish the beer tent hadn't been so far back because I wasn't going to risk losing my prime spot for a beer or water. The bands were amazing and Primus is still is churning out pure greatness. It was my first time seeing Les Claypool and I'm hooked.

  • Gogol stole the show.

by Yobigfoot on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

I haven't seen Primus for years prior to this event so I was excited to get tickets. They put on a solid performance of new material as well as several classics that I was hopping to hear. Would have wished for better seating options at the venue to relax and enjoy listening to them jam. Gogol Bordello kicked butt! It was hot and sweaty and lots of jumping fun. They sounded good for an outdoor venue and the crowd enjoyed their energy. I wish the set times were adjusted a little later across the board. The entire show was over and everyone was forced out of the park before 11pm. Must have been rules of the amphitheater. All said, a fun night.

  • Primus Amazing-Gogul a Drag

by Webtone on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

Primus was everything I had hoped them to be-tight, focused, fun, driving, and technically amazing. Gogul Bordello was very repetitive, and consequently tediousl Essentially they played one song, and played it over and over with minor variations. It was like to going to a polka concert. And, they were allowed to play way too long.

  • PRIMUS

by iamjackscolon on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I had such a good time at this show, that I was actually a little depressed for a couple days afterwards. I doubt I'll see another show this good until I see these guys again.

  • by Anonymous on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

The performances were good but the show started way too early and ended way too early. The layout of the venue is not very good.

  • Primus in Brooklyn

by Shingle on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

Fun show. Awesome venue. Perfect weather with amazing an amazing NYC skyline behind us. Primus sounded fantastic. They opened with Pudding Time and closed with Tommy the Cat, both of which were great but I thought the set list could have been a little better overall.

  • by Anonymous on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Great music, great venue, great weather, and great company. Everything was excellent, couldn't have asked for more!

  • Primus Williamsburg Waterfront

by Frenchisimo on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Primus are a must see! Amazing show and setlist. The williamsburg waterfront was an ok venue. Claypool puts on a show. His stage banther is funny. When Claypool was talking about the Manhattan skyline, someone threw a shirt on stage. Claypool replied with, "I don't want your dirty F*%*ing laundry." Great!

  • Primus, and the rest

by JaBrony on 8/2/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Great show down in Brooklyn. Primus was terrific. Gogol was good too.

  • Primus/Gogol Bordello are amazing!

by mikgolightly on 8/1/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

I was actually there for Gogol Bordello but even though I was late for the concert and only caught 30 minutes of them, I still enjoyed it! I didn't know Primus but they did put up a good show. The crowd was so fun and interesting too. I'd definitely go to any one of them's concert in the future.

  • by Anonymous on 8/1/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

AMAZINGGGG! The band hasn't lost their touch! They were dead on!

  • by Anonymous on 8/1/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

could have been better. ended too early. primus didn't play long enough and other bands kinda sucked.

  • gogol should have headlined primus put us to sleep

by peattt on 8/1/10The Williamsburg Waterfront - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Primus is good and i cant say that i dont like them, but gogol and primus are two totally different musical styles and probably shouldnt have been billed together. regardless i was happy i got to see gogol, they effing rocked as usual and never dissapoint. everyone was jumping during gogol, barely anyone was during primus.
