About

Powerhouse

Over the decades, the Powerhouse concerts have become an institution in hip-hop, put on by a radio station that's remained a mainstay of urban contemporary music for decades. WUSL 98.9, out of Philadelphia (better known to its huge audience as Power 99 FM) has sponsored the annual Powerhouse concerts since 1982. Fans know that every time autumn rolls around, they can expect an onstage onslaught of major players in the hip-hop game giving their all — and getting back a ton of love from the crowd.

Power 99 was joined by New York City station WWPR 105.1 (aka Power 105.1) when it became a go-to source for hip-hop and R&B in 2002. These days, the Powerhouse concerts are a two-pronged event with shows sponsored by both stations. Looking back over the history of the Powerhouse shows is a little bit like glancing back at the history of hip-hop itself. Year after year, the event has hosted the major artists of the moment, whether that meant featuring Xzibit, Ludacris and Ja Rule in 2001, showcasing Drake, Rick Ross and Trey Songz in 2011, or offering the likes of Cardi B, Lil Uzi Vert and G-Eazy in 2018.

    Much needed night out!!!

by Myisha H. on 11/1/22Prudential Center - Newark

Had floor seats, section F. The staff was very helpful with showing us to our seats! They kept the aisles clear during showtime and traffic throughout the show remained well organized. Only thing was we definitely left with a contact high lol everyone around us was smoking weed, LITERALLY… EVERYONE AROUND US!! Of course there were some people not co operating (u know what happens when there’s alcohol involved) other than that we enjoyed ourselves.

DJ between sets sucked. Kodak came on for a short set. Everyone sang like 30 seconds of their songs. Old hits. Fun but expected more

    Fun Vibes

by Berry on 11/27/21Prudential Center - Newark

Powerhouse was a good vibe. The show started on time and the line up was really good. The atmosphere was just fun. I brought my 14 year old niece we had great seats on the side of the stage. My only hiccup was they weren’t letting anyone in with a bag the size of a women’s wallet. If it was larger than the square they had outlined you can’t get in and you have to rent a locker around the corner from the entrance. That was annoying and pro long entry because so many people were turned around. That should’ve been stated when you purchased the tickets. Aside from that the show was great. Side note if you’re not a smoker this is not the place for you. The indoors with all that smoke made it hard to breathe. I went out by the concession stand a few times just to get a breather.

    Great concert

by Tye on 11/24/21Prudential Center - Newark

Concert was amazing! All the performers did an amazing Job. I went to see Moneybagg-yo and Lil baby and they did not disappoint. Professional performances. Migo’s was good as well. The only problem I would say is the lines to order drinks. They were ridiculous. The bartenders were moving extremely slow. I stood in the line for a drink for about 25mkns. I missed Sweetie entire performance. They need more drink stops are more bartenders!!

The new generation of hip hop/rap was a officially in session. I salute the new talent but nothing beats the classics era. This is a great event to showcase the future of music genre.
