Poison in Concert

Helping bring commercial metal to the masses since the early '80s, Poison remain at the top of their game well into the current decade. Their Glam-a-Geddon tour in 2011 commemorating their 25th anniversary was a huge success, reflecting the band's now legendary status as a forerunner of American pop-metal. The same can be said for their 2012 tour with fellow rockers Def Leppard. Poison's live shows often combine raucous fun with serious musical entertainment. Ticket buyers were in for a night of loud, high-energy concert rock, not to mention the onstage antics of the notorious C.C. Deville, whose amazing guitar solos are known to exceed nine minutes. Poison's 2011 Double Dose: Ultimate HIts compilation album preceded their summer tour and features all their hit singles that topped music charts.

It began in 1984, with frontman Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall and drummer Rikki Rockett. Deville joined the band shortly thereafter, and the spirit of Poison was born. The glam fashion and metal attitude were a surprisingly effective mix. The 1986 hit Look What the Cat Dragged sold over two million copies, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200. With the release of 1988's Open Up and Say... Ahhh!, the super-smash anthem "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" cemented Poison firmly in their place in musical history. Their 2002 album Hollyweird reunited the band's original lineup after years following a falling-out among members. The reunion seems to have reinvigorated Poison, as it holds true to everything the band ever was and everything it ever will be in the public's eye. Songs like "Wishful Thinkin'" and the title track are hard-driving, good-old-fashioned rock and roll with a pop-metal edge. Fans could not ask for anything more, and a whole new generation of fans got a good glimpse of what the legendary Poison was all about.

    poison was very disappointing

by bigshooter on 7/11/11Amphitheater at The Wharf - Orange Beach

I saw this show in June at southhaven mississippi and they were awesome i would have gave it 5 stars. They played for 1.5 hrs. and done well. Then i traveled to alabama, and saw them at the Wharf which is a much larger venue and they were terrible. They might have played for an hour tops, they left out alot of there best songs like something to believe in, etc. which were all played at the other venue. Also bretts voice sounded like it was starting to crack at the end. I think they are just playing to many shows back to back making the dollar and not putting the quality factor in rather than the quantity factor. They just acted like they were in a hurry to get this show over and get down the road to play a motley crue show. I was very disappointed in their performance here it was a big waste of money, and believe me i am a die hard fan of poison and have seen them like 30 times over the years, but this was their worst performance ever of all the times i saw them.

    AWESOME SHOW

by Sanmanswoman on 7/11/11Amphitheater at The Wharf - Orange Beach

This was my first time to see Poison and OMG I loved it. I would love to see them again especially with the Crue. My boyfriend and I love the old bands from our day and I am hear to tell you this made our beach trip. If given the opportunity will see them again. These guys are one of our most favorite rock bands and they still rock like they did back in the day..... GOOD JOB!

    What happened?

by SnapperD on 7/10/11Amphitheater at The Wharf - Orange Beach

I saw Poison five years ago and they were great at what they did. They were not great this time. They seemed rush and were too busy making plugs for their website and other goods they were selling. When did Bret start rapping? Throw your hands in the air and act like you just dont care? That's not the 80s rock band we all grew to love. Maybe it was just an off night. I know they have been traveling a lot!

    too short

by Scot251 on 7/10/11Amphitheater at The Wharf - Orange Beach

the opening act was ok, we mostly skipped it instead choosing to finish our drinks outside. the wharf venue is pretty cool and we had very good seats. poison was awesome but only played for a short time. 8 to 10 songs max. nice pyrotechnics.

    Short, probably wouldn't go again.

by Mattal on 7/9/11Amphitheater at The Wharf - Orange Beach

I saw Poison for the first time in 1986 so I thought it would be neat to see them again, 25 years later. I was not impressed. The band seemed to have a great time but couldn't have played much longer than an hour. The local opener started past the 8pm start time and Poison started around 930pm. We were walking to our car at 1030pm. This is not acceptable for a headlining show that wasn't part of the Motley Crue tour. Once again, the security at the Wharf sucks. It might as well been general admission on the floor and I wish that it was. They pretty much let people do whatever they want.

    Rocked by Poison

by Brandy2897 on 7/9/11Amphitheater at The Wharf - Orange Beach

Poison is absolutely amazing in concert and if you have never seen them live, you are missing out. The show is constant high-energy and all members of the band are very engaging with the crowd, to ensure each fan feels special. The set list includes all the "greatest hits" along with some songs that might have been forgotten through the years. Bret, Rikki, CC and Bobby put on a show that you will never forget!!!

Could not believe how hot these guys still are. They are rockin' it better that any 20 year olds! the bigest surprise of the night was Warrant. This new lead singer puts Janie Lane to SHAME. I'm a fan all over again. Will definitely buy "Rockaholic". Thanks for a great night guys.

    Poison and Warrant were awesome!

by MrsRSW on 6/6/11Snowden Grove Amphitheatre - Southaven

I surprised my husband with two tickets to the Poison concert at Snowden Grove Amphitheater in Southaven, MS for his 46th birthday. He and I have been together 10 years and married 5. I am 9 years older than him and was busy raising kids in the 1980's --- didn't even know who Poison was! But he's got every CD and loves them. I discovered after the concert started that he had never been to a Poison concert... which made it doubly sweet for both of us. The two things that stood out to me during the concert were, of course, him singing along with every song. He thoroughly enjoyed himself... the other was the rest of the audience. I loved how both bands really engaged the audience in the concert. I felt like I was in a choral concert!! Right in the middle of it. It was fabulous! I can only imagine what it sounded like on stage for the performers. Great show. Come back!
