Poison in Concert

Helping bring commercial metal to the masses since the early '80s, Poison remain at the top of their game well into the current decade. Their Glam-a-Geddon tour in 2011 commemorating their 25th anniversary was a huge success, reflecting the band's now legendary status as a forerunner of American pop-metal. The same can be said for their 2012 tour with fellow rockers Def Leppard. Poison's live shows often combine raucous fun with serious musical entertainment. Ticket buyers were in for a night of loud, high-energy concert rock, not to mention the onstage antics of the notorious C.C. Deville, whose amazing guitar solos are known to exceed nine minutes. Poison's 2011 Double Dose: Ultimate HIts compilation album preceded their summer tour and features all their hit singles that topped music charts.

It began in 1984, with frontman Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall and drummer Rikki Rockett. Deville joined the band shortly thereafter, and the spirit of Poison was born. The glam fashion and metal attitude were a surprisingly effective mix. The 1986 hit Look What the Cat Dragged sold over two million copies, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200. With the release of 1988's Open Up and Say... Ahhh!, the super-smash anthem "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" cemented Poison firmly in their place in musical history. Their 2002 album Hollyweird reunited the band's original lineup after years following a falling-out among members. The reunion seems to have reinvigorated Poison, as it holds true to everything the band ever was and everything it ever will be in the public's eye. Songs like "Wishful Thinkin'" and the title track are hard-driving, good-old-fashioned rock and roll with a pop-metal edge. Fans could not ask for anything more, and a whole new generation of fans got a good glimpse of what the legendary Poison was all about.

Poison MAYBE played 1 hour and that included a very long guitar solo and drum solo. Bret Michaels sounded ok but this show was very underwhelming.

  • Great show!!

by nicrocks on 7/26/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

Poison was awesome!! Wished it would've lasted longer than an hour. Only downfall was standing in line for beverages was a good 30-45 minutes.

  • Show was phenomenal, staff was not

by OmahaLP on 7/26/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

Very disappointed with the lack luster “security” at Stir. I was being inappropriately touched by a man while in front of the stage before the show even started and when I told security, all they said was that if I felt it was too crowded where I was standing I should relocate and watch the show elsewhere. So a man can pinch my rear end and “accidentally” brush his arm on my chest (3x) I should be the one have to move…ok….

  • Great Concert

Great concert. I knew most of, if not all of the songs that were sang. Poison still sounds great and puts on a heck of a good show!

  • Too short

by Stokerspoke on 7/26/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 3 out of 5

Sounded good when they played. On stage less than 1 hour. Did a lot of talking saying how much he loves us. Took 2 breaks. Had a long guitar solo. Had a long drum solo. I think they only played 7 or 8 songs. Pretty pricey for that in my opinion.

  • Amazing Show!!

by Music Fan!!! on 7/26/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

The opener Evandale was amazing! Then Poison took the stage! Lots of energy, great energy from the crowd!! Brett Michaels is still killing it, along with the rest of the band! Would see them again and again!

It gets better every time I see Poison! If you have not seen them, I would highly suggest it. You will not regret it. Stir Cove is a great place to see a concert. We brought our chairs and had an excellent view. I will definitely see them again!

  • Poison always puts on a great concert

by Cathy on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

It was hot - stir cove needs to put in some misters and fans because that was brutal. Water station was hard to get to. Concert itself was great. Sounded awesome.

  • Needs some improvement

by Age on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was amazing but Poison only sang for an hour. I stood in line for a drink longer than Poison was on the stage. Something has got to be done about the drink lines because it was ridiculous!!!! Poison was awesome and I would see them again with hopes for a longer concert.

  • Pure Poison!

by Chris on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

Poison was happy and excited to be there. It was an old school Poison show. So glad I didn't miss it!

  • Poison was awesome.

by horse on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 4 out of 5

Harrahs needs to limit the party pit more. There was way to many people in there. Some of my group had to go outside the pit. If your going to have a pit make sure you sell less tickets and make sure all the people had a ticket cause I know some people did not have the pass. But Poison was incredible.

  • price

by Jim on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 4 out of 5

Put on a great show..sounded great...only bad thing is they only played 65 minutes 70 tops..alot of people were shocked they only played that long..especially since they were the headliner..other than that was a great show.

  • Great performance, seemed like a short set.

by Tj on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 4 out of 5

Inexperienced concession workers, was in the same line for almost the entire show. Traffic leaving had to a total embassment for police that didn't seem prepared at all.

  • Surpassed my expectations my a large margin

by PeteLoefflersGuitar on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

The arrival of grunge in the early 90's made 'hair bands' uncool, which is really a shame because these guys are unbelievable musicians and showmen, who have given us many so MANY classic songs. This band should be headlining the stadium tour with Motley Crue and Def Leppard, not opening for them. The show I got to see, they WERE the headliners and they delivered a headliner performance. I will not miss any future Poison shows that are anywhere close to where I live....

  • Great, Short Show

by BeeCee on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 4 out of 5

Poison was great on stage. Engaged the audience continuously. They made it look like they were having fun, and the audience absolutely responded to that. Unfortunately, their total time on stage was just a few minutes shy of an hour. It just felt a bit… short.

  • Poison at Stir Cove

by Kizma on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 5 out of 5

Concert was enjoyed by daughter Keis & Bob---despite the heat< it was 98* Friday) the concert was thoroughly enjoyed. Brett Michaels did a great job singing all the bands top songs. The opening band from Omaha , Evandale, was good too.

  • Short concert

by 1979 on 7/25/22Stir Concert Cove-Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel - Council BluffsRating: 3 out of 5

The starter band was great. I had never heard of them and they performed. Hope to see them again in the local area. Came to see Poison. I think Brett Michaels had been in the hospital earlier in the month. His voice was raspy. Sounded like they should turn his microphone up. They played for 1 hour and 5 minutes. Pretty sure this was the shortest concert, I have seen at Stir Concert Cove. The crowd hung out for awhile afterwards as many had just bought another drink. So it was a good time... but maybe have a back up plan of other people in the band singing a cover song or the starter band lead singer... sing something with him. Maybe don't babble so much between songs to save your voice for what we came for... There was a free Sheryl Crow concert in Omaha same night and people paid money to see Poison.
