Playing For Change put on an extremely friendly, upbeat, beautiful show. They did mostly music that represented each of their roots, and the result was gorgeous.
Each of the 8 perfomers onstage was masterful. Grandpa Elliott was more than just a pretty face, his singing was a great addition and his harmonica playing was excellent.
Going in I was most excited to see singer Clarence Bekker. He pole-vaulted over my expectations. He could sing AND dance like no other R&B performer I've seen in a long time, and was also fabulous on every type of song they did. Singer Titi Tsira also had an amazing voice and kept up every dance step with Bekker...no easy task!
Renard Poche played electric guitar, and several other instruments, all very well. They performed songs by Jason Tamba who sang and played guitar, and brought the music from his Congo home. Everyone on stage was brilliant,
We had them sign the Live in NY CD/DVD we got...which is great...and they were very gracious people who enjoyed talking to their fans.
