This was a good performance. Sound could have been better.
The sound was horrible. We could only hear and understand about a quarter of what was being said and forget it if they were signing. Since there was a teleprompter I'm going assume they knew the sound was a problem and not just for the hearing impaired as I originally assumed. The story line was weird and they had long dance numbers that no one sung during nor did they appear to move the story along.
Was really wanting to leave the show at intermission but our dinner place would not have been open so we stayed for second act and the second act was WAY better than first act. Kinda glad we stayed.
Wow! The dancing and acrobatics in this shoe are amazing! You can really see the Fosse touch!
Pippin is my favorite stage musical ever - saw Ben Vereen back in the day, and went twice to NYC to see the current revival. This touring production is uneven - the Leading Player isn't Patina Miller (but who is...) and that role is so critical to the show - the set is a touring set, sufficient to tell the story. BUT Pippin (Naysh Fox) so perfectly managed the balance of wistfulness, strength and angst that the part demands, that I was totally able to overlook the shortcomings of the rest of the production and stay with him on his journey. Frankly, I thought he was better than either of the Pippins I saw on Broadway. The Leading Player was not at all bad - that is damning with faint praise, but she had some strong moments after a weak beginning. Catherine and Fastrada were the best of the rest of the cast - and surprisingly, Berthe was the weakest (IMHO), but that is such a great part that she only needed to be adequate, and she was. If you are on the fence about seeing the show on tour, don't be afraid of this touring company. There is still plenty of magic to do. And if you have never seen Pippin - stop reading this and buy your tickets!
Sound balance needs work--couldn't hear half the lyrics over the music
We enjoyed every moment. The action just was overwhelming.
I first saw Pippin on Broadway in 1972. I definitely wanted to see this but, was afraid it might not live up to my memories and expectations. Boy was I wrong! This was a fantastic show from beginning to end. The Leading Player had MAD skills and I felt I was watching Ben Vereen all over again. She killed it! Not one weak player in the entire show. Go see Pippin, you will not be disappointed.
Fantastic! Funny! Must See! Will see again! Love it!
I thought Pippin was excellent. The dancers/acrobats were superb and the magic was just enough to make everyone want more. I really enjoyed the Lead Performer and the Grandmother. They were just outstanding. Other notables were The Stepmother and the Widow. I thought of all of the leads or principals, that Pippin, himself, was the weakest. I was also interested in many of the comments during the intermission. Several people were remarking that this show seemed more overtly risque than when they had seen the show previously on Broadway. One young high school girl said that some of it made her uncomfortable and that she had seen the show in NYC and it was different. The sound in the theatre was excellent and the lighting was amazing. Kudos to those in charge of those aspects. I also enjoyed the set. The young boy did a fine job and his timing was spot on. Congratulations to him! There were chuckles aplenty in the show and the movement of the show was smooth and unhitched. When there were a few misses, the cast covered and engaged well. It was very slick and professional.
"Pippin" was so unbelieveable! I would see it again right after leaving the theater. The vocals, the costuming, the illusions, the acrobatics...It was truely Broadway caliber. It was engaging from the moment the curtains parted.
Pippin is my all time favorite musical...first saw it in the 70's...love the story, the songs, and the revival has kicked it up a notch. So, I would recommend that anyone and everyone see it. That said, this production was underwhelming. The lighting and sound were off....and, especially the sound. The mics went up and down...and too many times the orchestra WAY overpowered the singer (s). Too bad. I still enjoyed it, but it could have been so much better. Also, the Chrysler Hall seating chart was WRONG. I bought our tickets because they were on the right Center orchestra aisle...however, there are no Center aisles at Chrysler Hall.
I enjoyed the performance and the beautiful voices of the actors. The circus acts were very interesting. I saw the original Pippin in New York.
Great storyline. Music was awesome. Actors were very good
They may be touring, but not from Broadway. Poor sets, poor production, and the acting was not Broadway quality. Actors did not have comedic timing. We would have left sooner, but we wanted to be courteous of others. Waste of money and time.
Pippin was one of the worst productions that I have ever seen. It was crude and rude. You could not understand the words and the sexual innuendos were appalling. The voices were mediocre at best and the acting was worse than "B" level. I wasted my money and was very disappointed.
Seeing a man with another man and a woman in a cage, all barely clothed, grinding on each other is not my idea of entertainment, but it is appalling and perverse. Congrats on achieving both. Cursing for lack of an ability to act out emotion also has no place in the theater as well. This is an R rated version of Pippin which will appeal only to those who enjoy the perverse twisted interpretation by a very small minority. Attacks on the Church are always a sign of less than imaginative writing. Thank heavens I didn't take my children. Great acting can overcome cheap sets and props, however this never occurred either. Advertising as something you are not is unfortunately very common these days, so buyer beware. The sorinkling of slight of hand magic tricks did not save the show either. This is no Cirque. Save your money for a good show.
All out amazing! The energy, the story, the actors, EVERYTHING!
the show was wonderful. there was much happening on the stage i am sure i missed lots of little events. this was a play my mom always recommended. i now know why this was a must see on her list.
We thoroughly enjoyed this show. The actors were very talented! The addition of the Circus Theme was very entertaining!
