Amazing what these dancers do with their bodies and with the feel of the music
Pilobolus was amazing! The fun started when about 20 minutes before the show was about to start, the performers came out in ones and twos to "warm up" dressed in sweats & other casual clothing. Some of them greeted friends & family who were in the audience. Then the show started and they were magnificent! An amazing combination of agility, strength, dancing, movement & humor. The videos were fascinating as well and added to the enjoyment.
The tickets were a birthday gift for my wife. I had seen Pilobolus in the 70s and they are even more impressive now. They have tremendous strength which is elevated by their fluidity and expressiveness. BergenPac is a good venue for shows. The theater is cozy, there’s plenty of parking and lots of close choices for a bite or libation. The only, slight, negative was that there was no playbill. We would have liked to know more about the dancers. Luckily we sat behind the dance captain’s mother-in-law. She shared some background on the artists
What a wonderful show!! Beautiful from start to finish. Amazing dance and movement and incredible strength. Highly recommend this dance company whenever you get a chance to see them!!!
I love Pilobolus and was thrilled that they also offer a kid's version of their show. It was interactive and well-timed. I believe this show is offered every year as a part of the American Dance Festival--so I highly recommend it to parents and grandparents as an annual outing.
it was OK . not what i expected. enjoyed my seat. enjoyed the interpenetration.
The most recent Pilobolus concert f or kids was the best yet. They have figured out how do make it appeal to kids. Lots of audience participation, explanations, short dances, a theme (nature) that kids could relate to, lots of humor. I have seen 4 others and this was the best by far
The Pilobolus Theater never ceases to amaze me. These dancers are extremely talented and passionate. Can't wait until next year.
This marks the fifth year in a row that I've been to see Piloibolus, and they're fully up to their very high standard. Some of the performances were fun, some were emotionally intimate, and all were worth seeing. I'll be back next year.
As always, Pilobolus was a joy. Mixing two world premieres with two older dances was a feast for the eyes and senses. The exuberance of the cast was a real plus. It is obvious that they love what they do.
Pilobolus always amazes me. What an incredible example of the art of dance.
Pilobolus remains the gold standard in modern dance, combining the art of dance with gymnastics and old-fashioned story telling, all infused with a knowledgeable wink and a smile.
Enjoyed the show. I admire their creativity, strength, and grace. But was a bit disappointed that there was none of the old Pilobolus with the creation of figures and objects out of their combined silhouettes. Also too much video.
Exactly why Pilolobus is categorized as a "dance" company is beyond me. They did essentially nothing that qualifies as "dance" in their Aug. 15 performance at the Wolf Trap. They did some simple gymnastics, played around on a glass table like little kids in a sandbox, and slid some chairs around the stage. Yawn! Intermissions and breaks between pieces comprised about half of the length of the show. I can't believe that I wasted $40.
I've been wanting to see Pilobolus for years and this is the first time I've gotten my act together to get tickets. We were not disappointed! We came with friends and our 7yo kids. We all loved Branches. The coal miner's wife piece was lovely, but was upsetting to one of the kids the first time. I say first time, because overall the experience was so wonderful that we attended the evening performance. The coal miner piece wasn't as upsetting the second time for the 7yo, but I think other pieces might have been preferable in the kids matinee (i.e. magic piece?). We really enjoyed the audience participation and talkback with the performers in the matinee.
I enjoyed the event for the price and now kinda wish I had opted for the longer night show. These dancers are fabulous and I liked the "stories" told with body movements.
Opening piece - the nature of things was well done. Also enjoyed the last 2 pieces. Between the opening piece and intermission was so so. If it's in DPAC, do not sit in section 6!! They have some equipment hanging off the edge of the balcony in the middle with some LEDs facing you that will be a major eyesore. I had to make a shade out of my programme to keep the lights from bugging me.
Loved Pilobolus but wish it wasn't children's matinee which only had 2 acts!
I've seen Pilobolus several times and I'm always amazed by the gentleness of the dance and the way the group works together. From the opening to the ending, the performance was upbeat, fresh, and very entertaining. I loved the way the video presentations were brought into the show, but I thought there was too many of them.
A brilliant evening! Wonderful to see such innovative dance in the Triangle.
