Combining elements of new wave, disco, and indie rock, French alt rock outfit Phoenix is arguably one of the most creative forces in contemporary pop music. After 2009’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix took home the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, the band followed up in 2013 with Bankrupt!, their fifth album and most successful release to date. Building on the catchy synthpop of its predecessor and buoyed by infectious singles “Entertainment” and “Trying to Be Cool,” Bankrupt! reached No.1 on the US Alternative Albums, Independent Albums, and Rock Albums charts, marking a first for the band. Formed in the suburbs of Paris in the mid-‘90s, Phoenix scored a breakthrough hit with “If I Ever Feel Better” from their 2000 debut United, paving the way for the mainstream success of sophomore album Alphabetical in 2004. On tour in 2013, the band have been keeping ticket buyers moving with their danceable live sets, earning a reputation as one of the most entertaining live concerts of the year.
I’ve been waiting many years to see Phoenix live. And it was absolutely amazing and beautiful, I am still in awe. One of the best shows I have ever seen. Hope to catch them if they happen to tour in my area again!
Phoenix was amazing. They’ve been on my bucket list and didn’t disappoint. Performed many songs (3 sets) and sound/visuals were awesome. The YouTube Theater was clean, easy to access, and leaving the parking lot was nice and easy. Although parking was $40. (Also, need to bring clear bags for entry)
I went because they have a new song out called alpha zulu. I did not realize or know about the history of the band. When the crowd started singing from the very first song I figured I was in for something special. And boy were they special!
This show was our first Phoenix show and won’t be our last. They were amazing! The light show was spectacular! Sound was perfect! I became a BIG fan after seeing them!
Phoenix was absolutely incredible live. It was rocking, dynamic, and theatrical. Great visuals behind the band as well! Really a fun and engaging concert; can't wait until they come again!
Phoenix was absolutely one of the best shows I've ever seen. They were genuinely so grateful to be there and would take short breaks often to take in how much we were cheering for them and to thank us. They just seemed so real and passionate about their music, and it was infectious! I would see them a hundred times if I could!
However you think they’re producing great music, the live performance is so much better!! Indy had an amazing crowd, insane energy:) hopefully everyone will get to experience it!!

Overall the show was pretty good and Phoenix had great energy while connecting with the crowd … the only downside was the BRIGHT flashing lights above the stage. Even as someone who isn’t generally sensitive to bright effects, it was a little too much.
I have been to countless shows in my lifetime and this one definitely ranks among the best I've ever been to. Phoenix are consumate professionals of the stage and did not disappoint. I am getting the chills even now as I write this, just thinking about the show. It helps that the Fillmore is a fantastic venue, with some of the best acoustics in the city, but Phoenix has their sound keyed-in to perfection. Looking forward to whenever they roll through again!
You could tell Phoenix is fond of performing in DC, appreciating the crowd's energy and lyric knowledge. The band responded with an equally energetic and polished show full of their great songs and fun visual display. I liked them before seeing them, but now I'm a big fan hearing just how good they are live.
Phoenix always puts on a grand show and this was no exception. Light show was fantastic and the venue felt intimate despite its size
Great band! They played a good amount of old material and their soon to be released album! Anthem was great!
Starting and ending with their biggest hits, Lisztomania and 1901, the energy consumed the Anthem for entire show. New tech images timed to the music and VOLUME made this a dance party from the beginning. Great voice on Thomas and the band was tight. Great show!
Third time seeing Phoenix and this was my fave since we were close to the stage. They sounded great! Anthem is a super venue.
WOW! I have not seen Phoenix play in several years, was blown away by new show. Great mix of old songs with new songs, great pace. Sound system was really good. Choreographed lights, movies, background was jut mind-blowing, so well done, not the words to describe it.

this is one of the best shows I have seen at the anthem. It’s clear that the visuals perfectly coordinate with the music and every member has great energy. A wonderful show!
