Phoenix Mercury History

The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made six total appearances, winning in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. As members of the Mercury, Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and set multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broke several block records. Ahead of the 2025 season, Taurasi announced her retirement and the Mercury acquired five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas, who continues to hold the WNBA record for career triple-doubles.

  • Support WNBA

by JayBay on 7/2/23Rating: 5 out of 5

WNBA deserves our support. It was so much fun watching the ladies BALL! Even better to see their appreciation after the game with them thanking us for coming. I know Professional sports is a business, but as a former pro athlete, this special touch makes it more personal. Lastly, pay them!!!

  • Can't Wait to Go Back!!!

by Tracee on 7/1/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I attended the Dallas Wings vs. Phoenix Mercury WNBA game 6/27/23. It was so much fun. I can't wait to go to another game next week, and the rest of this season. These ladies are so talented, both teams. And I got to see superstars Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, and Arike Ogunbowale in person!! I was so geeked, I love Arike!! Loved the music, the on-court human train ride, the interactive games and shirt throw with the fans. Amazing. The fans were so awesome too, very exciting. The staff was great. $47 for seats in the 8th row section 102 was an absolute steal. The tickets should have cost more honestly, these ladies are worth every dollar. I'm definitely getting floor seats next game.

by JoLe on 6/9/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

Hey! This was my first time attending a Mercury game and it was so much fun! I can’t believe I’ve never been before. All the excitement with the dancers and DJ and entertainment plus the food court and merch were excellent!! I went with five friends and we all had a great time! And I loved seeing the support for women sports! Families bringing their kids and the awesome diversity in the crowds was fantastic. I’ll definitely attend more Mercury games.

  • Less Turnovers Wins Games

by SheShe on 5/29/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

The contest was brimming with fervor, and the squad that could steer clear of a turnover in the final minute would emerge victorious.

  • Fun basketball game

by Vskog on 5/28/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

Basketball was a fun fan experience, however the added Ticketmaster fees were excessive. Fans may want to purchase their tickets directly from the arena ticket office.

  • BG's Homecoming

by NP on 5/24/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

Energy in Footprint Center is always amazing. Most exciting environment of all the WNBA arenas I've been to. There's a bar in the middle of the lobby as soon as you enter. Great food choices throughout the arena.

  • Heartfelt and Suspenseful!

by AnitaB on 5/24/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

It was amazing to see our first WNBA game and heartwarming to witness all the support BG received. What a HOMECOMING it was even though the Mercury lost. The Footprint Center is so clean, concessions were plentiful and naturally pricey, and the atmosphere was superb! We had a FABULOUS time. Oh, seats were perfect!

  • Quick and Easy

by Brian on 5/24/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

I love the ability to purchase tickets and obtain mobile tickets within minutes. Also, it’s so easy to share or transfer tickets to others.

  • WHY ????

    by bkanz0083 on 5/24/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

I am over 65 years old and continue to support women's sports as we worked so hard to provide opportunities, BUT, why why why are tickets becoming so expensive that we are being forced to not attend in person? Fan based down....WHY...PRICES ! My 6-8 games a season are down to 2. Discouraged....

  • Welcome home B.G

    by J. H. on 5/24/23Footprint Center - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

From start to finish the game was amazing. The X factor, hip hop dancers, the music selection was awesome. I even had a tearful moment when B.G shared what organization she was supporting (bring our families home). It felt like an honor to be there.. a total experience and now I’m looking into getting season tickets because of it.
