Phoenix Mercury History
The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made six total appearances, winning in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. As members of the Mercury, Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and set multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broke several block records. Ahead of the 2025 season, Taurasi announced her retirement and the Mercury acquired five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas, who continues to hold the WNBA record for career triple-doubles.

First timers - totally fun experience and had a blast! #wnba and #bg42
Got to ride free on the light rail & got dropped off almost in front of the Footprint arena. We just had a great time! Both my wife and I support the Phoenix Mercury. Bring Brittany Griner home!!
Mobile ticket app was a breeze to use. The energy in the stadium was electric. The only thing that went wrong was the Sky lost.
It was so much freaking fun! I had a great time. Mercury won! Game went to OT and I even saw Sue Bird.
Had a great time at the Mercury game with friends and family. Quick and accessible seating. The venue offered convenient food and drink establishments. Overall great experience!
Great entertainment and a great game. Great job to the WNBA for recognizing the top 25 WNBA players of all time.
X-Factor fans always bring the energy for the Mighty Mercury. We didn't get the win on this game but the fans came, cheered and supported.
The new arena is INCREDIBLE. The production quality is 💯 improved. Audio visual equipment is on point and top notch. I had an amazing time… despite the game 4 loss. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I’ll be going to at least 1 finals game.
The fact the only title holding team in arizona is treated like a high school team being moved from their home court to a college. As a fan who goes to games multiple times a year this was a slap in the face. The X factor lives off of the experience and for the mercury to pull out a win like that and yet the state of arizona treat them like a disney show is more important. if it’s not in the footprint center they are playing in then move the other event not the mercury. you need to learn respect. kobe would be turning in his grave over this disrespect
Missed first half of game because of ASU construction and no police control of traffic
We sat in traffic 1 hour at least missed part of the game. No traffic controls for that many people. Terrible selection and experience. They should not have had it there! Would not pay to go there again.
Great value and the Mercury always host a fan friendly event! They played well this game and always take the time to interact and entertain and appreciate the crowd. The unsung Champions of the area...4TheValley!!!
We love going to Mercury games and supporting the W. We attend frequently, but this game in Tempe was a mess. We got to our seats and found people sitting in them. We politely asked them if they were in the correct seats and they showed us tickets that matched ours exactly. The row behind them mentioned the same thing happened to them when they tried to sit. We went to the box office to get the error corrected and the box office attendant said there were no other seats in the lower level and that we would have to give up our Row 5 seats we paid for and sit in the upper level. By this time, we had missed the entire first quarter of the game and about half of the second quarter. The person I came to the game with found an XFactor account executive and asked them for help. He was able to find us tickets in our same row almost immediately. We were able to enjoy the rest of the game with his help.
This was our first time there since the renovation. The Footprint Center looks fantastic! The staff was friendly and the food was good. My family had a great time at the Phoenix Mercury game!
Amazing energy in the arena. Loved the competitiveness. GRINER, dunked the ball and it seemed as though the entire crowd saw it felt it and cheered for it! I love love loved it! Can not wait to go back for more!
Best seats and most fun I've had at a sporting event
Action packed and full of celebs! What a fun time that was had by all! Thanks Mighty Mercury!
Me and my girls had an awesome experience at the game! We came all the way for Michigan and were very satisfied!!
Love the Mercury. But so happy the ACES won! Great venue and fans! Thank you, Phoenix Mercury fans!!
The arena was amazing and my floor seats were perfect! I was pleasantly surprised at how many food options there were and the amount of merchandise stores there were inside of the arena! The atmosphere during the game was awesome and I would definitely come back to this arena!
