Peter Gabriel’s five-decade-long career includes nine studio albums, film scores for the likes of Martin Scorsese, six Grammy Awards and two separate inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a solo artist and founder of ’70s prog-rock pioneers Genesis). As a solo artist, Gabriel has sold an estimated 16 million albums worldwide, with his fifth studio album — 1986’s So — going five-times platinum in the U.S. and producing the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Sledgehammer.” Gabriel’s catalog of hits also includes ballads like “In Your Eyes,” which was featured in an iconic scene from the 1989 teen rom-com, Say Anything. Gabriel has performed in front of countless sold-out crowds on world tours that often include large-scale performances and conceptual set design. In May 2023, Gabriel embarked on i/o – The Tour, his first world tour in seven years, which features songs from his forthcoming 10th studio album, i/o — his first full-length album of new songs in over two decades.

If you are looking for PG to sing all the hits, you'll be disappointed with this concert. On the other hand, if you want to hear some incredible music - with a full orchestra, you'd be in for a treat! Gabriel shares the stage with a very talented orchestra that he clearly believe are the stars of the show. He starts the show with the entire "Scratch my Back" album - in order, start to finish. The second half of the show is his own music from a variety of albums, again, fully arranged with the orchestra, instead of his standard band. He is more subdued and low key versus other tours he's done in the past, but the depth of the songs seems more profound and complex. He picked his music very carefully for this tour, and seems to always have more to say. His love of world music was also given a new direction with his sponsorship of a Nordic singer who opened the show with 2 solo acoustic pieces of her own, and stayed to sing backup through the show.
Metcalfe's orchestration and gabriel's execution are nothing less than brilliant. Of course, brilliance is always expected when gabriel puts his mind and soul to something.
This man is truly a poet and a perfect show w/ orchestra was amazing.
I have seen Peter Gabriel twice over the last 20 years. He was wonderful and creative both times. But with a 54-piece orchestra, I really didn't know how it was going to be...and it was nothing short of AMAZING. I was brought to tears many times...just because of his voice. The orchestra put such a nice touch on everything. And alot of the songs I have never heard...usually a show when I don't know the songs, it's boring and disappointing...there was not one disappointing moment about this show. Bravo, Peter..I am going to try to go again tonight, but this time I will bring tissues.
Sadly, this show will be available to too few people. Peter Gabriel demonstrates his genius in yet another step outside the comfort zone in this extraordinary collection of interpretive covers of the works of others, as well as orchestral arrangements of some of his more eclectic works. The energy of the New Blood Orchestra was incredible, and Mr. Gabriel delivered in his true showman style. Without the overt theatrics of his younger days, the combination of orchestral arrangement, stark stage with video screen and Peter in his recently familiar black attire provided a sublime mixture of old and new, offering hints of the story-telling that made Peter so incredible as a member of "other bands". Do not expect what you have experienced at other Peter Gabriel shows. This is a new experience with familiar songs set to new arrangements, offering new insights into the mind of this incredible person. There were some familiar moments, such as Book of Love and Signal to Noise, but with those exceptions, almost everything was a completely new experience. Go with an open mind, ready to enjoy a new perspective on old favorites and this will be one of the most moving and enjoyable nights of music you can imagine.
I've seen PG at least 15 times over the years, so I am biased. That being said, this show was better than I expected. Rock singers and orchestras never seem to work together, generally sounding like the orchestra was forced over the top of song. These were excellent musicians playing a meticulously arranged evening of music. It came off so well that I agreed with Peter himself -- the orchestra was the star of the show. Gabriel was in extremely fine voice, the display technology was powerful but not overwhelming, and the song choices were inspired. All in all, an excellent evening of music from one of the best artists of our time.
Peter Gabriel has always tried to push his art forward, musically, with costume, with visuals. Taking the synthetic sound of electric guitars and rhythm tracks out of this latest project, he returns to music at its essence: strings, piano and wind. Abstract and occasionally funny video montages offer splashes of light on the backdrop and an electrified curtain showing the light displays. And for those sitting in the back, huge, gorgeous TV screens show live pictures of the artists on-stage in super crisp display to make this production at once grand and intimate.
Peter and the New Blood Orchestra were amazing. Listing to the new album live has given me an entirely new appreciation for the work and Peter's imagination, and the re-imagining of some of his own work was simply wonderful. Solsbury Hill morphing into Beethoven's 9th? Splendid.
Show was beyond awesome. New Blood Orchestra, orchestrations, sound, lights, videos, sound - all amazing. First part of show with cover songs was good, but when he came back and did his own stuff it was hair standing up on end-ingly amazing. The sound of so many strings was just beautiful. Even though sign on Radio City said SOLD OUT, I came into work this morning and tried for a single ticket and am in the PIT for tonight's show. If you like Peter/Genesis and can go, GO!
To enjoy the show you need to understand where Peter is at in his career. No Sledgehammer, Big Time, or Steam (thank goodness). Great arrangements and a great evening.
Great unique show! Peter's voice sounds incredible live and the orchestra was amazing!
