About

Penn & Teller On Tour

Not exactly comedians but more than just magicians, Penn & Teller bring a quirky combination of laughs and illusions to every performance. You're ready to laugh before they even trot out their tricks, with the big, brash Penn Jillette towering over his staid, unspeaking partner Teller. And once they dip into the bag of tricks they've been perfecting since the 1970s, you're simultaneously dazzled and delighted. Whether they're working with things like magic bullets, nail guns, and straitjackets, or just employing a seemingly ordinary deck of cards to demonstrate some sleight of hand, the duo can make you doubt your own senses as they appear to make the impossible happen right before your eyes. Sometimes they toss a touch of danger into the mix, and sometimes they simply play the whole thing for laughs, but whatever illusion they're unveiling, Penn & Teller can always pull it off.

Penn & Teller Background

America's most famous magic/comedy duo actually started out as a trio in the '70s, but when third member Weir Chrisemer left in 1981, Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller (who has always gone by just his surname) continued on together, and it was then that their star began to rise. With TV appearances on such shows as Late Night With David Letterman and Saturday Night Live, a series of Broadway shows, and their own Emmy-winning special on PBS, Penn & Teller carved out a niche in show business and became household names in the process. In the years that followed, they became TV personalities in their own right, first with a Showtime series and then with Fool Us on the CW. They've earned their own star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. They've appeared in music videos by Run-DMC and Katy Perry. They've established a record-breaking residency in Las Vegas. And throughout all of these accomplishments, Penn & Teller have shown that a big, loud guy and a small, silent guy can make people gasp and guffaw at the same time.

I know they can do better

by Alfredo on 10/24/23Penn & Teller Theater at Rio Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I am a big fan of Penn and Teller TV produced shows, I am from Costa Rica and latam has never been a market for them so I was really enthusiastic about the idea of seeing this show for the first time in my life as they are legendary. I had a spot in the back, unfortunately they only had 1 show during the days I stayed and it was almost sold out, then the show started and with that the dissapointment. The audio was clean, but too low for the people behind, so you need to pay a lot of attention to not miss any word, the 2 screens at the top side are small and low definition so you cannot see the details so it was a bit painful just to watch But hey, it is Penn and Teller, they will delight me anyways, the amount of magic you get is good, maybe 2 or 3 tricks that will leave your mouth open but you get out with the feeling that it was not worth for the money you paid, and ok, las vegas is expensive, but, I also went to see mindfreak and that guy with 56 years old puts a lots more effort into the show. I could say Penn and Teller are tired, I still will give them a chance outside Vegas if I manage to see another live show but at least the one I saw I can only say "they can do better"I don't want to hurt their product or reputation, trust me I am still a fan, but it hurts to say that I was expecting a cherry on top for my vegas trip and they ended up being the lowest point of it.

    Non-stop laughing!

by Philadelphia Phil on 10/11/23Penn & Teller Theater at Rio Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Saw Penn & Teller at the RIO Casino. Had no warning that the entire casino was in a transition with new owners. The entire casino slot machines were flashing and "out of order"except for a small room with about 20 slots. The place was deserted except for the Penn & Teller crowd. From the very beginning, the entire show was funny, relaxed, lots of audience participation, and amazing magic! I saw the two in Philadelphia almost 25 years ago and couldn't wait to have some more belly laughs! They are such professionals. Can't recommend the show enough!! Hope the RIO comes back bigger and better than ever! It was such a fun place a few years ago.

    Unmagical

by Bad Magic on 10/10/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I did not enjoy this show much at all. It does not compare to Penn & Teller shows I’ve seen on TV. Unfortunately the show was void of any real imagination or magic. I felt it was 99.9% predictable and consequently a big disappointment. This show is geared for families with children 5-10 years old. IF you don’t mind swearing and religion creeping into your family entertainment.

    Need a earlier showing also

by Nicole on 10/10/23Penn & Teller Theater at Rio Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Good show but need an earlier showing also. I noticed several older guest dozing off. Maybe they were visiting from the east coast or were early risers due to Vegas being so hot in the mid day. Either way, you’ll capture more of the audience if they weren’t so tired.

    Teller speaks!!

by Keri H on 10/9/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I have been watching Penn and Teller on TV for years, but this was the first time I saw them live. It was so cool to see new material, and even hear Teller speak. They engaged with the audience and kept folks entertained all while telling a story and sharing their magic.

A night of Magic and Laughter

by Joely on 10/9/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Penn and Teller's show at the Chicago Theater was a great family friendly event that i recommend you see if they come to your town. My wife and I were amazed and laughed continually the entire night. I was sad that they no longer come to the lobby after the show and mingle with the crowd.

    Never a disappointment!

by JohnZ on 10/9/23The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I've seen Penn & Teller a number of times, usuall.y in Las Vegas. I recall the "Bullet Exchange"from a previous show a number of years ago. Totally amazing! This show had more audience participation than some of the previous shows, but was no less fun and/or "magical". Their comedy woven throughout is also totally expert! I don't want to give anything away, but they are masters of misdirection - even while explaining misdirection to the audience. Their comedic timing helps keep you focused on the things they want you to be focused on as opposed to trying to figure out the illusion. I'd give them 10 stars if that were an available score. By all means, see them if you can and let them take you for a ride you'll enjoy!

    Amazing Show

by Christie on 10/7/23Penn & Teller Theater at Rio Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I'm a big Sabrina the Teenage Witch fan, so when I saw that some dude who had a cameo had a residency in Vegas, I had to go! My husband got to participate (he selected the diamond suit). I'm still not sure how they got rid of the cow and if the cow was animatronic or real. Anyway, Melissa Joan Hart is an amazing actress and these guys really did a good job with their magic show.

Great show! Penn & Teller were thoroughly entertaining and audience participation was a blast. The Jazz duo pre show were cutting some pretty serious licks.

    A must-see

by Dave on 10/1/23Penn & Teller Theater at Rio Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Penn & Teller have been doing their offbeat take on stage magic for decades now, and they're just as fantastic and irreverent as ever. The show is equal parts hilarious and astonishing, with Teller's fabulous sleight-of-hand and performances reminiscent of the silent-film greats, set against Penn's delightfully over-the-top stage presence. Don't expect to see a bunch of enormous, wildly expensive set-pieces (though they DO have a few) - many of the routines are based around very simple and straight-forward props and devices. It's a nice change of pace from the overly-flashy take on magic shows, and during the show I attended, their opening routine even poked fun at this. Also, it's my understanding that Penn & Teller don't rely on the use of audience plants. If this is true, they really ought to make a bigger point of it, as a few of their tricks appear to be vastly simpler to execute if you are under the assumption they are just calling up plants, and are much more impressive if they are in fact not. Make sure you get there when the doors open at 8:00 PM to hear The Mike Jones Duo playing some nice soft jazz - you may recognize the bass player!
