PBR: Professional Bull Riders on Tour

For a rodeo rider, trying to master a feisty horse is tough enough, a task not to be taken lightly, but bearing down on a big bull increases the scariness quotient considerably. That's one of the things that makes watching a pro bull rider so compelling — it's thrilling and frightening in equal measure as you marvel at the riders' skills while praying that they make it out unscathed.

These days, when it comes to bull riding, it's all about PBR: Professional Bull Riders. The organization started back in 1992 as a grassroots effort spearheaded by a handful of riders with a vision for what the sport could offer to fans. PBR grew by leaps and bounds over the decades, and by the 2010s they were sponsoring three major tours every year, adding up to hundreds of events with millions of dollars in prizes being awarded annually.

Needless to say, attending a PBR event means watching the best bull riders in the business strutting their stuff. Over the years, champs like J.B. Mauney, Kody Lostroh, Justin McBride, Adriano Moraes, Chris Shivers, and Tuff Hedeman have all distinguished themselves as decorated heroes of the PBR, giving all the rest a high standard to which they could aspire. And each of their tours offer fans the opportunity to catch some bull riding history in the making, be it the Unleash the Beast Series that ends with the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, The Velocity Tour that showcases the rising stars of the PBR, or the Touring Pro Division split into Western, Central, and Eastern regions.

Whichever PBR competition you end up catching, there's one common thread. You're guaranteed to see some world-class athletes reaching deep inside themselves to tap into the best of their talents and give rodeo lovers an unforgettable experience.

    PBR

by Ginger30 on 8/3/09AT&T Center - San Antonio

It takes a lot to make Bull Riding even better than it is, but the PBR Tour managed to do it. The pyrotechnics were awesome, the announcers were engaging, and the music during each ride was a nice touch, too. They also give away a lot of free stuff, which is always a plus.

    PBR was great

by omar123 on 8/3/09AT&T Center - San Antonio

My family had a great time. This event was something the family can enjoy. I think little kids smaller then 8 should not attend. The sport is dangerous but worth it. I plan to attend more events.

    Let the Dirt Fly

by TXHorseman77 on 8/3/09AT&T Center - San Antonio

Bulls and Bar B Que, what more could you ask for? We had the upfront and in the dirt seats. Dirt was flying, along with "Bob" the bull's hair! How much closer can you get to action like this?

    Attraction Great For All Ages!!!

by Geri75 on 8/3/09AT&T Center - San Antonio

First timer to San Antiono PBR. My husband and I throughly enjoyed it. So much more to the event than what is seen on Versus TV. Kept your attention and excitment built up from start to finish. Lots of audience participation too!!! Liked the introduction to the event---All bull riders introduced, honor to out Great Country, honor and respect to the Border Partol that gave his life protecting our great land, and know it is built on a Christian foundation. Also to see how much respect each bull rider had for each other even though they were competition for the big bucks!!

    Awesome scary bullriding!

by NeeCee on 8/3/09AT&T Center - San Antonio

The bullriding finals were terrific. The bulls were winning the day overall. Tough stock! Only about 10 riders made the time clock 8 second requirement but the efforts were amazing! The show with the music, tecno effects, and talent made this a memorial birthday present. We had a wonderful time and will be sure to attend more events. We would love to go to the PBR finals in Las Vegas!

by Rozweena on 8/3/09Germain Arena - Estero

There is still no score sign to see (NEED a digital score sign); can't always hear the announcer with the details; don't sell tickets to the seats behind the bucket chutes. I saw most of the people moving to other seats during the event, so they could see better. Sad to see the attendance go down over the years...more advertising needed?

    Flint stole the show

by Missjo on 8/2/09AT&T Center - San Antonio

The PBR in San Antonio was outstanding. The riders were great, the stock was rough and the bull fighters did their job. I would say that the bulls won this time with only three riders making the 8 seconds on 3 bulls but it was exciting from start to finish. The AT&T Center was full of excited PBR fans and my husband and I were right in the middle of the action. There was not a bad seat in the house. Flint Rasmussen was so entertaining. He was right there to fill any moment of down time between rides and kept us on the edge of our seats with laughter. We are looking forward to Las Vegas and going back to San Antonio next year.
