PBR: Professional Bull Riders on Tour

For a rodeo rider, trying to master a feisty horse is tough enough, a task not to be taken lightly, but bearing down on a big bull increases the scariness quotient considerably. That's one of the things that makes watching a pro bull rider so compelling — it's thrilling and frightening in equal measure as you marvel at the riders' skills while praying that they make it out unscathed.

These days, when it comes to bull riding, it's all about PBR: Professional Bull Riders. The organization started back in 1992 as a grassroots effort spearheaded by a handful of riders with a vision for what the sport could offer to fans. PBR grew by leaps and bounds over the decades, and by the 2010s they were sponsoring three major tours every year, adding up to hundreds of events with millions of dollars in prizes being awarded annually.

Needless to say, attending a PBR event means watching the best bull riders in the business strutting their stuff. Over the years, champs like J.B. Mauney, Kody Lostroh, Justin McBride, Adriano Moraes, Chris Shivers, and Tuff Hedeman have all distinguished themselves as decorated heroes of the PBR, giving all the rest a high standard to which they could aspire. And each of their tours offer fans the opportunity to catch some bull riding history in the making, be it the Unleash the Beast Series that ends with the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, The Velocity Tour that showcases the rising stars of the PBR, or the Touring Pro Division split into Western, Central, and Eastern regions.

Whichever PBR competition you end up catching, there's one common thread. You're guaranteed to see some world-class athletes reaching deep inside themselves to tap into the best of their talents and give rodeo lovers an unforgettable experience.

  • Best night

by Parris on 2/25/20DCU Center - WorcesterRating: 5 out of 5

I have to say this was the best night I had in a long time. I was able to watch live something that I love to watch on tv but what made it special was I got to enjoy it with my 14 year old son that enjoys it just as much as me.

Event was great. I had picked great tickets. Just wish that the usher had seated us properly. We missed the first four rides as we had to move as it was beginning. They moved us back to where I had seated us at first. There was at least a dozen of us that this lady had misseated. Otherwise a great day

With 16 8 second ridws and a full house what could go wromg. Actually had a great time on the walk in with a PETA punk on the sidewalk. We told him he was too skinny to cook and eat.

Great event, we enjoyed every minute of this. Would have liked to see more food variety.

This was our first time attending a PBR event and we had a fantastic time! Can't wait until they make their way back to Hampton Roads again... will definitely attend!

  • MC/Clown was disappointing.

    by K. on 2/25/20DCU Center - WorcesterRating: 3 out of 5

The venue was great!! Easy in, easy out, no issues with parking and numerous decent restaurants within walking distance. There were eight of us, all sitting together, and we all have been to see the PBR before. Last time, by the end of the night, we wanted to elect the MC/Entertainment Clown (EC) as President! What a disappointed this year's MC/EC was (and I'm not talking about the bull fighters, who were AWESOME!). When facing the chutes, we were sitting to the left. 90% of the time, the MC/EC talked to and engaged with the right hand side of the arena. It was like he was blind in his left eye and had no idea there were a large number of fans sitting on the other side. It was so obvious that fans sitting near us began whistling and shouting "Hey, WE'RE OVER HERE." His performance, even though we mostly saw his back during it, was lack luster and rather boring. We also weren't impress with the announcers. They didn't do a good job of keeping the crowd informed. 7 riders had a qualifying score . . . ten moved on to the final round . . . why? How did they determine which 3 non-qualifying riders got to move on? In the final round, he didn't announce the rider's first round score and didn't tell us how many riders to go, didn't explain to the crowd WHY some of the riders got a re-ride. Because I've watched a lot of bull riding, I was pretty sure it was because the bull hit the gate coming out of the chute, but I'm sure there were a number of "newbies" that we confused by the whole thing. The riders and, especially the bulls, did their jobs. PBR just needs to work on the rest of the show.

  • Great Experience

It was the first PBR event for both my Wife & I and her 93 yo Grandmother. We had a incredible time and the Bulls, Riders & Staff were very entertaining. I look forward to our next event. KEEP ON, KEEPING ON.

  • Great Riding

by Appreciative Observer on 2/25/20Hampton Coliseum - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Great night of bull riding. Excellent riders and bulls as well as some not-so-good of both. Having the variety of rides that night highlighted the great rides. Really enjoyed the night.

  • It Was A Decent Experience

by Bethany on 2/25/20DCU Center - WorcesterRating: 3 out of 5

The rodeo was fun. A little shorter than some of the others I have been to, but this is New England. The drink and food were exorbitantly priced, which deterred us from buying even though we had missed dinner. The show was fun itself. We did have the loudest, most annoying woman 2 rows behind us screaming at the top of her lungs and swearing for most of the event. We did say something to staff, but they did not speak to her. She had people turning, looking and filming her from all 3 sections we were near. That is how loud she was. I think PBR did a good job but our experience wasn't awesome.

Great time! But the sound system in the upper area of the balcony was poor.

  • Better then years past

by AJ on 2/25/20Hampton Coliseum - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

This event gets better and better every year in Hampton Roads, VA. The riders are better, the host is awesome as usual. This year we had over ten riders ride the full 8 seconds. Last year there were only a few. That's Bull Riding though good days and some bad days. Enjoyed the PBR girls coming out and working with the crowd and even doing some line dancing. Awesome show well worth the money.

by Christine on 2/25/20Hampton Coliseum - HamptonRating: 5 out of 5

Fabulous time! Second year attending and even better this time! Entry was fast and efficient- printed our tickets this year as wifi connection last year was awful and couldnt pull up tickets inside. Very fast paced event with a lot of entertainment between rides. Explained all we would need to know to keep track of standings. Very memorable event for our whole family- may make it a third time next year!
