I did not have acces to the VIP area, and Paul was kind enough to step out of the meet and greet line to take a photo with me. Class act, I'm incredibly grateful. Thank-you Paul.
it was insane. pvd put on a great show and awsome music. i couldnt stop dancing because the energy was so high. i would def go see him again.
Paul is always amazing- toying with the audience, making huge venues feel like tiny clubs- a must see
I'd never been to Rumsey Playfield nor to a Paul Van Dyk concert. I've never even seen anything similar to Paul Van Dyk live before, though I have plenty of live copies of songs. The venue, I wasn't really expecting, but it was gorgeous and I loved it! Rumsey Playfield is gorgeous and the perfect place in the city for an outdoor concert. I'm definately keeping my eyes peeled for other concerts to see playing down there. It was plenty of room and i loved the fact there were bleachers and then standing room so you could sit and move back to seats when they were available. Food and Drink were reasonable considering the type of vendor. I bought a bottle of water for 2 bucks! I think though the eco friendly chick in me could have done without seeing the amount of wasted plastic cups and then the people with the postcard ad's and then watching people 2 seconds after taking one littering the ground. Paul Van Dyk was GREAT. Loved the music, the bass sounded so amazing. It shook the bleachers. The light show and projector had be mesmerized from the get go, and I spent a lot of time with eyes glued seeing what beautiful animation could be next. I liked that he mixed in some toher familiar music into his stuff. I also loved the many attempts to get everyone involved, even though ti seemed everyone was too far drunk to get involved at that point. The singer ( thought I don't know who that was) was really great, however I think he was the most successful at getting energy from the crowd. watching the diverse crowd was also very great at this concert. Having recently been to a Flogging Molly concert, that kind of band has a particular niche, Paul Van Dyk brings a much more diverse crowd and it was really neat to see people of different ages and backgrounds around together enjoying good music. I think my only complaint might have been the fact that he played a lot of straight music, none of the songs of his I know with the great vocal tracks, and missed those songs.
The PVD event was absolutely amazing! My sister came to NYC for the first time. She loves Paul Van Dyk, therefore we decided to go to this open air event in Central Park. It was great because of the location at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. It was also special because it started late afternoon and it was getting dark at the same time that we enjoyed the awesome music. I would love to see Tiesto or Armin Van Buuren at the same location.
"So, we stopped the rain," said Johnny McDaid before closing Paul van Dyk's 2009 Central Park set with their triumphant new song "Home." It may have drizzed a little bit, but even if it would have rained, I would not have left because it was an amazing show! Paul van Dyk mixed everything I wanted to hear from Depeche Mode's "Peace," Lily Allen's "The Fear," to Fatboy Slim's "Star 69," and he made us sing the melody of MGMT's "Kids," which actually isn't very easy to sing and we did it! Definitely want to see Paul van Dyk live in Central Park again!
PERFECT LOCATION-CENTRAL PARK, NEW YORK. NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE, BUT GOOD ENERGY AND LOTS OF FUN, YOUNG CROWD AND THE #1 DJ IN THE WORLD!
When I got to the event at 5 p.m. the line seemed huge and it turned out to be an hour and a half wait in that line. Paul van Dyk started mixing while 100's of people were still waiting in that horrible line. At 6 30 we were finally inside but the music didn't even catch my attention. I was expecting something more vocal from a TRANCE DJ, but it turned out to be a house event. Being as energized as i was i didn't even feel like dancing cause his music didn't make sense. He mixed as if he came out on stage for the first time. He didn't even know how to put a song together, he would go from a nice melody to a straight up house beat with no transition. I left after 2 hours because I just could not stand his music anymore and I regret that I spent 75 dollars on his event. I'm never attending any of his events again.
Glad the weather held out. Awesome seeing/hanging out with my friends! I liked the music selection. Set had a nice flow. Great hearing some real classics---especially We're Alive!!!! Worst part was the live precussion all night. A little overboard on that. Everytime the drummer played the sound would get lower in order to level things out so the drums were not over powered. It took away from the music quite a bit.
Music was awesome, but line to get in (even for ticket holders) was nearly 1 hour. Lighting was nice, but there were no lasers at all this year (quite ashame) and the show itself lasted only until 10 pm. No encores. The people that were there were fairly well behaved, but it's sad seeing all these really young kids (both men and women) totally messed up on too many drugs.
Had so much fun but please next year have a different beer! lol
I have been all over the US to see concerts. And I have to say that Paul van Dyk was the BEST concert I have ever seen! If you have never seen PvD go see him!!! He is amazing!
The Paul Van Dyk show did not disappoint. Despite the threat of rain (and mud), the weather held out in Central Park. Clocking in at nearly four hours long, the show included lots of well known songs and a few new ones as well. Great percussionists, great videos, great night!
i live in Virginia and its a 4 hour drive to see paul van dyk, i have seen him many times in my area in washington dc. HE IS AWESOME. this time i was kind of dissapointed because i expected to give us some energy towards the music because its an outdoor event. all the music he played was so good, but the main thing that ruin the fun was the SOUND SYSTEM sucks!..........it was up and down and the beat wasn't regular :( . we got there at 6 hopeing that it would be fix, untill 9 30 and just went back to the hotel to listen to his music on our laptop which sounded better. i will go again next time but i hope the sound would be much better. i'm looking forward to see him again in DC in 2 months..!!!!
Weather was perfect, everyone had an amazing time. Didn't matter to anyone that there were muddy puddles, we all danced through them. Would definitely go again.
Before this event I would have never imagined that PVD could be disappointing, but it happened. I've seen PVD on numerous occasions in the past 5 years or so, and his shows were always awesome. His show at UMF in Miami this year was the bomb. But this time I guess he was trying to take his music in a different direction. He totally lost me with the live drummers. It was very annoying to hear him slow down and turn down the music because the friggin drummers couldn't keep up. I didn't feel it all, and it seemed like a lot of people in the audience felt the same way, because people were talking and weren't really captivated. And the biggest let-down was when it looked like the drummers were done and PVD started to play his own thing (what I was waiting for), so I really got into it, and then PVD just dropped the intensity again back to the drummers. At that point I was pissed. Left the show almost 2 hours early. I couldn't take the frigging drummers anymore. PVD, I never thought that I would be saying this, but you have disappointed me.
The overall concert was fine, but there was a huge line ten minutes before starting. I ended up getting inside almost one hour after it had started. The set was nice, but the sound was a little bit low. It was better in the middle, but too crowded there.
PAUL VAN DYK's SHOW was awesome! I had the pleasure of meeting him before he did his six o'clock show he was great meeting his fans and posing for pictures. I think that this venue is best for PVD, his music was great and he had one drummer and another guy playing the conga's just like his video in MUSIC DISCOVERY PROJECT and the singer for the song HOME is great. The lighting show was off the hook there is nothing more that I can saw about PVD his live shows are better than anything he puts out on CD. The only sticking point that I have was that there should have been more bathrooms waiting on line for over a half an hour is not acceptable and also they were only selling BROOKLYN BEER and no liquor , plus they did not accept credit cards.
Overall this was a great show. He had a great visual show this year. I give him total respect for trying something new in the genre by having both the percussionist and drummer on stage for the whole set. I do feel they were a bit much at times though, especially for the first hour. It felt as though I was at a jungle show rather than the trance one I had gone to see. The other major criticism I had at the show was the sound system. Many times throughout the night it seemed like the volume was very low or that part of the soundtrack was missing. Once he did get into his normal groove though the energy of the crowd really picked up. He played many of his classic hits as well as quite a few tracks by other artists that I hadn't heard from him before. So although this was not my favorite PVD show I still had a great time and would highly recommend any fan of his make the trek to one of his annual Central Park shows at least once.
