About

A beloved folk rock singer-songwriter who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Paul Simon has become one of the most respected songwriters in rock music. He grew up in Queens, New York and developed an interest in baseball and music at an early age. Along with childhood friend Art Garfunkel, they formed Simon & Garfunkel in 1964 and scored a deal with Columbia Records, releasing their debut Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. They later won ten Grammy Awards and put out four more studio albums including 1966’s Sounds of Silence and 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water before parting ways that year. Simon’s self-titled solo album came out in 1972, instilling Latin and reggae flavors into his soft rock in its singles "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". 1973’s pop-folk album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon incorporated gospel and R&B and its follow-up, 1975’s Still Crazy After All These Years, reached number one on the Billboard charts and had four Top 40 hits including "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "My Little Town" with vocals from Garfunkel. In 1986, Simon released his seventh studio album Graceland, expanding his musical palette by infusing African textures and collaborating with South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which went on to sell over 5 million copies in the U.S. and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His Brazilian music-tinged The Rhythm of the Saints was released in 1990, achieving commercial and critical success, as well as introducing world music to a broader audience. His latest album, the acclaimed 2011’s So Beautiful or So What was touted as one of the year’s best. He has toured successfully through the years, as a solo artist as well as jaunts with both Bob Dylan and Sting, selling out concerts to ticket holders across the globe.

    Paul Simon at His Best

A wonderful program of music from his 5 decade career. Hard to top many of his classics. His voice is still strong and clear after all these years.

    Paul Simon concert was awesome!

by SuperTechLT on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Paul Simon concert was awesome! Just wish that our seats didn't have such a blocked view of the large screen monitor. We sat in section 210, row 14. The lighting fixtures blocked our view of Paul Simon's face on the big screen for much of the performance.

Paul Simon should have done this tour 5 years ago

by Suzannemacx on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

It was a show more for Paul than fans who wanted to hear his hits. He catered to what he wanted, which of course is his perogative. His sound is different now, doesn’t hit the notes like he used to.

Spectacular Concert At the Best Possible Venue

by Goddess1220 on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Paul Simon is not only "Still Crazy after all these years," he is still spectacular, too! He provided the best musicians I ever heard and performed with grace, style, and professionalism. It was one of the best concerts I ever attended.

Felt like Paul Simon was in our living room.

by Zoeoeoeoh on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

This was one of the most magical and memorable concerts I've ever been to. I was nervous about it being chaotic and stressful, with tons of people. In was the exact opposite. The vibe was cozy and relaxing. It felt as if Paul Simon was playing in our living room. The sound quality was amazing and every seat had a perfect view.

    Paul Simon Farewell Tour

by JaneinNJ on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

What’s to say? The man is a legend. Only problem was that I didn’t know some of the songs and the camera angle for the video screen put the mic directly in front of his mouth—so there was no hope of figuring out the words by reading his lips. Otherwise, it was PAUL SIMON and the absolutely incredible musicians who played with him. An epic evening!

Doesn't get better than this- Paul Simon

by Humecat on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Paul was awesome Friday night at the Garden. His set list drew selectively from his vast body of work, ranging from the S & G era (America, Homeward Bound, Bridge, Boxer, Sound of Silence) through his varied solo career (Mother and Child Reunion through Wristband). His musicians, as always, were awesome, including an orchestral group called yMusic, who were a real treat and backed him on Rene an Georgette Magritte with their Dog After the War, I Can't Run and Bridge. Mark Stewart, his amazing guitarist, was there as were a number of his long time band members. Paul gave a touching remembrance to Vincent Nguini, his long time guitar player from Cameroon, who died recently. Paul was is in strong voice and sounded as fine as ever. He reminds us of just how great a guitarist he is, too, highlighted by his acoustic versions of American Tune, Questions for the Angels, and the heart stopping Sound of Silence to close the show. I have had the pleasure of seeing Paul alone (and with Art) many times and each time it has been a memory for a lifetime. This concert was no exception.

Paul Simon - Madison Square Garden - night 2

by Anonymous on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Paul Simon is an incomparable composer and musician. The breadth of his catalog is amazing. His concert was an incredible experience. I would see him again at another, perhaps smaller, venue. Hope he will do more shows - at least for us in New York. I give the venue a 3 star because the seats are incredibly cramped. I'm only 5'9" and it wasn't comfortable. Also your walking path off the sides of the aisle are tight. Very little room between the step up and the path to the aisle. The ceiling lights at times were glaring into our eyes.

    thank you Paul Simon

by TerryT22 on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

What an incredible show...after all these years...he still has the chops to sing beautifully, entertain and interact with the audience allowing us to forget how many people were in the same room. I wish him everything that he wishes for from his retirement from touring...he deserves every bit of it.

    History being written... and played!

by MMNogueira on 9/24/18Madison Square Garden - New York

What more to say about Mr. Simon? After a long, rich and prolific carrer, Paul Simon delivered his (likely to be) penultimate show this Friday, Sep 21th, at a crowded Madison Square Garden. Opening with the young-and-naïve dreamers of "America" and closing with the battered-but-not-defeated veterans of "American Tune" and "Homeward Bound" -- with the dark-and-yet-full-of-hope poet of the iconic "The Sound of Silence" making his final stance at the stage, the set could suggest a modest and somewhat bitter step out. Not for the fans that packed the MSG. They sang and danced happily the incredible variety of tunes created by Paul Simon in his 6-decades career. Make a summary of the 2+ hours show would be a hard task: enough to say that, in the end, we all still missed a number of old successes which didn't find its way to the set list. If some bitterness remained, was for not being possible to double the time of the show and for the sense that, maybe, those who were at the MSG that night may have sung together, for their last time, what was "written in the sounds of silence".
