About

A beloved folk rock singer-songwriter who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Paul Simon has become one of the most respected songwriters in rock music. He grew up in Queens, New York and developed an interest in baseball and music at an early age. Along with childhood friend Art Garfunkel, they formed Simon & Garfunkel in 1964 and scored a deal with Columbia Records, releasing their debut Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. They later won ten Grammy Awards and put out four more studio albums including 1966’s Sounds of Silence and 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water before parting ways that year. Simon’s self-titled solo album came out in 1972, instilling Latin and reggae flavors into his soft rock in its singles "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard". 1973’s pop-folk album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon incorporated gospel and R&B and its follow-up, 1975’s Still Crazy After All These Years, reached number one on the Billboard charts and had four Top 40 hits including "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" and "My Little Town" with vocals from Garfunkel. In 1986, Simon released his seventh studio album Graceland, expanding his musical palette by infusing African textures and collaborating with South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which went on to sell over 5 million copies in the U.S. and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His Brazilian music-tinged The Rhythm of the Saints was released in 1990, achieving commercial and critical success, as well as introducing world music to a broader audience. His latest album, the acclaimed 2011’s So Beautiful or So What was touted as one of the year’s best. He has toured successfully through the years, as a solo artist as well as jaunts with both Bob Dylan and Sting, selling out concerts to ticket holders across the globe.

Great show. Played all the hits, as appropriate for a farewell tour. Sprinkled in some reflection as well. Great compliment of backing musicians.

    Amazing night

by Columbusite on 9/29/18Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

I have seen Paul Simon several times over the last 40 years including once with Art Garfunkel. This last concert in Atlanta was the most awesome, most memorable. He did 3 encores and was so in touch with the audience. Great show!

    Paul Simon was okay

by concerttrish on 9/29/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Paul Simon concert was okay - I found it slow moving and no energy filled. He is an excellent artist and songwriter but I don't feel he played his best concert. One MAJOR problem was the venue lighting. Blue lights were constantly focused on the audience to the point of being blinded. I really needed sunglasses and my friend who had eye surgery recently was forced to keep her hand over her eyes. Very poor lighting. I am at events at Madison Square Garden quite frequently and this is the first time I ever experienced this problem. All this being said I am glad I went to see him prior to his retirement and wish him nothing but the best on the road that is in front of him.

Simon was better than 20 years ago!

by PappyPGH on 9/27/18PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

What an incredible performance by Paul Simon and his amazing band! yMusic was off the charts. I saw Paul and his band almost 20 years ago and it wasn't as good as this show. Farewell, Paul! You went out with a truly exceptional performance at almost 77!!!

Paul Simon's concert at Capital One Arena

by FanOfSimon on 9/27/18Capital One Arena - Washington

Although we were so far back that we really couldn't see Paul Simon well, the screen projection was excellent and allowed us to totally enjoy his performance.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! Paul Simon was on stage for 21/2 hours, played one great song after another. He also invited people to stand and dance, which I appreciate since I go to concerts to listen, stand, and dance. We had great seats (floor( and enjoyed the show from start to finish!

    Paul Simon concert

by hipjkj6 on 9/26/18PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

2 hours 45 minutes of songs from 70s to 2000's. He was always on stage and very personal at times about his musicians, and other members of the band. Some band members played solo's but he was still there on stage playing his guitar. Played two 6 string guitars and one 12 string guitar during most of the songs he sung. Song selection would go from all years that he produced so us older folks got the songs we liked and the younger folks got songs they knew. Best show and seats in a long time. Would go again!

    Disappointed

by cWally on 9/26/18Madison Square Garden - New York

I was disappointed in the concert. Paul Simon did too many songs that I have never heard before. Even the most popular songs didn't sound like they should. I am glad that I got a chance to see him before he quits touring, but it could have been a lot better.

    BEYOND INCREDIBLE

by Enthusedfan91737 on 9/26/18PPG Paints Arena - Pittsburgh

I've been following his farewell tour like a hawk. I am so glad he came to Pittsburgh at the end. This was the concert of a lifetime. The big magazine reviews of the concerts are spot on. I only regret that I can't live it all again.

Still amazing after all these years

by ohms1234 on 9/26/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Paul's Madison Square Garden show was a trip through time with one of the most iconic and enduring musical geniuses of the last fifty years. He delved into his musical roots from the fifties and took us on a musical journey of his career that was a celebration of his many incarnations from Simon and Garfunkel to his solo work and the various musical genres he so amazingly delved into. He talked to the audience like we were old friends and we sang along with the music we grew up and grew old with. His large band of talented musicians and singers made for a great evening. With so much material he could draw from, I am sure it was difficult to chose what songs to play but he covered a wealth of his finest tunes such as "Still Crazy After All These Years", "Graceland", "A Bridge Over Troubled Waters", "Homeward Bound" and closed with the song that launched his career, "The Sounds of Silence". Thank you Paul for an unforgettable evening.

Paul Simon - a dream fulfilled!

by coronaqueenof on 9/25/18Madison Square Garden - New York

What a wonderful experience this show was! Not only for the fans but for the man himself, who appeared to be having the time of his life throughout the performance & seemed content in the fact that he was fulfilling a dream for himself & all in attendance. What a gift for the masses.

Homeward Bound - An Unforgettable Evening

by Ashcroft00 on 9/25/18Madison Square Garden - New York

Seeing Paul Simon perform at the end of his Homeward Bound Tour was an incredible experience. His voice was strong and his band kept Madison Square Garden energized. Having seen Paul Simon in 2003 when he was on the Old Friends/Bookends Tour with Art Garfunkel, I can say that this was a much different experience. While it marked the end of his formal touring, the mood of the concert was forward looking as opposed to retrospective. For over two and a half hours, Paul Simon reminded us of his enduring legacy as one of the great singer/songwriters. His lyrics captured times and memories. I remain grateful to have attended this show. Much like the 2003 concert with Art Garfunkel, it was an evening I will never forget.
