About

Paul Mooney is one of the most dangerous and brilliant comic minds of our time. His first professional gig was writing for Richard Pryor, penning most of the hilarious routines for Pryor's "Saturday Night Live" appearance, co-writing material on the groundbreaking "Live On Sunset" and "Is It Something I Said" albums, and for Pryor's film "Jo Jo Dancer, You're Life Is Calling."

A talented comedic writer, Mooney has served as head writer for some of television's best comedies, including "The Richard Pryor Show," "Good Times" and the first year of Fox's "In Living Color," creating the hilarious "Homey the Clown" skit. He also wrote for Redd Foxx's "Sanford and Son" series as well as "Saturday Night Live." Most recently Mooney appeared on Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show" and released a live stand up DVD, "Know Your History: Jesus Is Black and So Was Cleopatra."

Paul Mooney came into his own with his controversial and critically acclaimed, debut comedy album "Race," for which he received a GRAMMY nomination. His album "Master Piece" continues to stir anger, laughter, and thought. "I always drop in some history" he explains "It's knowledge. There's always a message in my comedy and you may not get it that night - it's like time bombs. It'll get you a week later. You'll understand." Be warned: this show is not for the easily offended.

Brothas Tellin' it like it is

by blkndprd on 8/3/15B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Paul Mooney & Dick Gregory remind us that a black man in the White House cannot erase 400 years of subjugation of African descended people solely for the economic enrichment of those of European descent. Telling the tale with humor is how we keep from going completely mad over our mistreatment. This tell it like it is attitude must continue to be heard until we African descended peoples are wholly part of mainstream society. Keep preachin' my brothas.

    Another moment for Dick Gregory!

by KittyBooBoo on 8/3/15B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Acoustics at BB Kings not so great with Paul Mooney. Not as much new material. Heard same thing in shows passed of at least 3 years, and repeating items throughout skit. Dick Gregory was dynamic. Still killing it at 90. He was the show! A lot of cussin', but content was all good!

    Oh and One

    by DNMEACH1TEACH1 on 8/2/15Howard Theatre - Washington

Paul Mooney was a disappointment. He wasn't funny at all. He rambled his whole set. Dick Gregory saved the day. He was funny and dropped some knowledge. That's what I meant, the zero is Paul. The one is Mr. Gregory.

    Sad Sight

    by Reddbull63 on 8/2/15Howard Theatre - Washington

It was disappointing to see Paul Mooney struggle on stage as he did Thursday night at the Howard Theater. I have been a fan of his for many years and he has always been very quick witted, articulate, and had great timing and delivery. I took my 22 year old son to see him for the first time and I hate that this will be his impression of such a legend as Mr Mooney. His long pauses, slow delivery of limited jokes, and apparent forgetfulness of what he intends to say at times were difficult to sit thru. We were glad that they switched the order of he and Dick Gregory because Mr Gregory saved our night .. He still has it!!! Paul Mooney's managers and advisers should consider pulling him from the rest of this tour to save embarrassment for such an outstanding legendary comedian as Paul Mooney .. He deserves better .. and so do his paying fans!

    Dick Gregory and Paul Mooney

    by Lucy1675 on 8/2/15Howard Theatre - Washington

The show was good. It was good to see Paul Mooney again. It wasn't his best performance but he still looks good and knowing he's been sick, it was just good to see him smile and tell a few jokes. Dick Gregory was amazing! It was the first time I've seen him perform live. He not only made you laugh but he left you well informed about what was going on in the world related to the black community. I definitely was pleased with the show. It was my first time at the Howard Theater and while it was a nice theater, I was very disappointed that it was scorching hot most of the show. The doors opened at 6pm but they didn't turn on the A/C until past 7pm. It never really cooled off and you could tell before the end of the show they turned the A/C back. The service was slow and sitting in a hot sold out theater made it almost unbearable.

    Oldie but not so goodie

    by Sharp1Lady on 8/2/15Howard Theatre - Washington

Show- The event was not what I expected. While Dick Gregory continued to deliver the truth and comedic relief, Moody was a disappointment. He was heckled at and the audience had to help him with topics and subjects to generate a joke. May be age, however his manager should be fired. Seats- Tickmaster listed assigned seats and rows on the tickets. However, the venue was standing room only. Very disappointing!!! Customers beware!!!

While I have great respect for the work mr. Mooney has done, I was embarrassed at how he seem to be put there for money without regards for his aging health and very poor performance. However, the great Dick Gregory made up for my disappointment and dropped heavy knowledge while during do with humor. I even went and brought his book and determined to eat better. Thank you Mr. Gregory for all you and your wife have done for us as a people.

Paul Mooney's just not the same..

by Livinglifelikeitsgolden on 8/2/15Howard Theatre - Washington

I wish so much this show had turned out so much better. IMO Paul Mooney rambled on and on and it didn't seem too much preparation took place for him. On the other hand Dick Gregory delivered and I actually enjoyed his performance - always makes you think I only wish the JN Productions and PM7 Ent would consider these reviews. As I've read past recent reviews re: Paul Mooney and it seems his performance this night was consistent with other's reviews. I don't think I will be patronizing again. On another note, the venue -Howard Theater - is beautiful, but had no air up until the start of the performance. The food and drinks ARE WAY OVERPRICED.

    Paul and Dick

    by Reviewer56hhh on 8/2/15Howard Theatre - Washington

Paul shouldn't be on stage in front of an audience. Dick was his usual opinionated self. Whether you agree with him our not, he is authentic. Got love him.

Dick Gregory was great... the Howard Theater was a mess. No air, the food was not good and the service was slow. Paul Mooney has met the end of his stand up career. It's time for him to rest.

    "FAIR' AND THAT'S BEING KIND!!!!

    by 1983elcamino on 9/4/14EXCELLENT - DURAHAM

WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. LONG PAUSES AND IT APPEARED TO ME THAT HE WASN'T IN THE BEST OF HEALTH. ALSO HIS STAFF WAS VERY RUDE ESPECIALLY THE LITTLE LADY SITTING BESIDE HIM AFTER THE SHOW WHEN SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS AND PICTURE TAKING. SHE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE FANS TAKING PICTURES OF PM WITH THEIR PERSONAL CELL PHONES OR CAMERAS.WHEN A FAN SUPPORTS A CELEBRITY THEY OWE IT TO THE FAN TO BE KIND AND COURTEOUS , NOT PUGILISTIC.PM SEEMED TO BE QUITE MOODY HIMSELF WHEN FANS WANTED TO STAND BESIDE HIM TO TAKE PICTURES.BEEN TO A LOT OF COMEDY SHOWS IN MY TIME AND 95% OF THE COMEDIANS WERE FAN FRIENDLY BUT THIS PM AND HIS CREW SEEMED TO BE CONCERNED ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY, NOT THE FAN.

Paul Mooney's mind is showing signs of aging

by fghijklm on 9/3/14Carolina Theatre - Durham

I am not quite sure if Paul Mooney was drunk or just forgetting his lines. I love his raw uncut comedy but this show let me down. I even left early and wanted to leave earlier. Respect for a great legend kept me in my seat longer than I wanted to stay. I love Paul Mooney but he let me down this time.

    Let Paul Mooney REST!

    by Calal56 on 9/2/14Carolina Theatre - Durham

He made some good points but it was hard to watch at times. He looked like he was in pain. And to see him walking off stage was hard.

    Paul Mooney

by WFSS on 9/2/14Carolina Theatre - Durham

I loved Paul Mooney's cable special but his live show in Durham fell way short. He did not appear to be well. There were long pauses between sentences. There were a few jokes but I felt very sad for him. His team needs to evaluate whether he is well enough to perform live on stage. Those of us who love him want to remember his brillance.
