About

Paul Mooney is one of the most dangerous and brilliant comic minds of our time. His first professional gig was writing for Richard Pryor, penning most of the hilarious routines for Pryor's "Saturday Night Live" appearance, co-writing material on the groundbreaking "Live On Sunset" and "Is It Something I Said" albums, and for Pryor's film "Jo Jo Dancer, You're Life Is Calling."

A talented comedic writer, Mooney has served as head writer for some of television's best comedies, including "The Richard Pryor Show," "Good Times" and the first year of Fox's "In Living Color," creating the hilarious "Homey the Clown" skit. He also wrote for Redd Foxx's "Sanford and Son" series as well as "Saturday Night Live." Most recently Mooney appeared on Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show" and released a live stand up DVD, "Know Your History: Jesus Is Black and So Was Cleopatra."

Paul Mooney came into his own with his controversial and critically acclaimed, debut comedy album "Race," for which he received a GRAMMY nomination. His album "Master Piece" continues to stir anger, laughter, and thought. "I always drop in some history" he explains "It's knowledge. There's always a message in my comedy and you may not get it that night - it's like time bombs. It'll get you a week later. You'll understand." Be warned: this show is not for the easily offended.

    Classic Paul - LOL Funny!

by Howurunnin on 9/1/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Provocative, irreverent, topical and sensationally funny - all while making you think! If you like truth and you enjoy comedy - Paul Mooney is not afraid to tell you the truth! Paul sat in a chair for at least two hours having a rapid fire conversation with his audience that was compelling, thoughtful, and LMAO FUNNY! Don't miss him if you have a chance to see him! As Paul said last night: "you're either running scared or you're runnning free - HOW YOU RUNNIN'!!!"

Paul Mooney was Hilarious and Real!

by LMBOstill on 9/1/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

All of the comics were great. Mooney was awesome! He brought the house down with his realism and his take on African and American History. I loved his respect and realism about the President, Barack Obama. Some people can't handle the truth, but he tells it like it is. My husband laughed so hard that his jaw muscles were hurting. This is what everybody needs - to be able to laugh and relax. There is so much hatred going on, and he forces you to look and facts and combines them with amazing humor, that keeps you laughing, but makes you think!

    Mooney to the Moon

by ashlandjunkie on 7/25/10Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Given the 1 hour delay, it was hard to recoup the initial giddiness and excitement that typically precedes a comedic legend. However, Mooney recovered well with his usual, understated sarcasm. His philosophy was so poignant, I found myself mulling over many of his highlights--as prose. I loved his schicht on Jews: "What is the -ish about? What does that mean? Does it mean that a Jew is 'kind of Jewish' as in sorta? Who is slightly Jewish? Does it mean you are Jew-like? Jew-lite?" He then transcribed the biblical reference. It was hilarious! Another moment: Mooney said, "Make no mistake; Jews might "act" like they're white, but trust me, white folk don't count Jews as white. They count them as Jews. Ask Mel Gibson." It was pure comedy--but an ironic truth. Great time, great seats, and as always, Cobbs does comedy and production well.

Two and a half hours of rambling over the top humor, pushing all boundries of decency and good taste.
