About

Paul McCartney has been anything but idle during his post-Beatle years. In 1971 (within one year after the break-up of the Fab Four), McCartney formed the rock band Wings which would go on to produce numerous hit singles and enjoy strong album and ticket sales during the decade of its existence. Wings' most successful and highly acclaimed album, Band on the Run, stayed at the top of the U.S. Charts for four weeks and went triple platinum. Hit songs for the band include "Live and Let Die," "Band on the Run," "Jet," and "Silly Love Songs." McCartney proved, in the '80s, that his popularity with the public was still as strong as ever by embarking on a highly successful solo tour. Memorable collaborative songs were also produced in the '80s--"Say Say Say" and "The Girl is Mine" with Michael Jackson, and "Ebony and Ivory" with Stevie Wonder. In the '90s, he expanded his already impressive musical repertoire by composing two albums of classical works (Standing Stone and Working Classical) recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra and, in the same decade, released an album of ambient, techno music under the pseudonym The Firemen. Other notable albums of his solo career are 1982's Tug of War (recorded with famed Beatles producer George Martin), his 1984 soundtrack for the film Give My Regards to Broad Street (which he also directed), and 1989's Flowers in the Dirt, and 1997's Flaming Pie. McCartney was honored with a Knightship in 1997.

We expected amazing and Sir Paul went above and beyond our expectations! This show was AWESOME!!! There isn't one bad thing to say about it! He played for a solid 3 1/2 hrs without taking a break! This is one show that you can't miss. Definately worth the money and the memories! He did a lot of old stuff, some new, and some in between. He's a true artist!

    Paul McCartney was awesome!

by Duquesne on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

Loved seeing Paul McCartney in concert last night. Awesome show! I saw him 40 years ago on the first US Beatles tour. On his 2010 tour he takes you on a musical journey through time. Very touching moments in regard to his deceased wife Linda, John Lennon and George Harrison. He talks to the audience, share stories/thoughts and comes across as genuine. Just one complaint.....he made us wait one hour before he hit the stage two nights in a row. Some call it fashionably late....I don't feel the same way. If you have to get to work the next day you might want to see him on a weekend.

Paul McCartney put on an incredible show! He was so in touch with the crowd and oh yea...he never stopped! For nearly 3 hours he played his guitars and piano taking only a few moments to intereact with the crowd occasionally.

    Paul M was MAGIC!!!

by tinkerpam on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

How can you describe an event in human terms that went way beyond the "human norm"? An evening with Paul was like being in a dream state for almost 3 hours - without a break!! His voice was excellent and needed no electronic help like so many other performers. He sang with clarity and pure emotion. Looking over at my 17 year old daughter and seeing tears streaming down her face when he sang "Blackbird" made me realize that i was not only watching a musical legend but also a musical hero. Our evening with Paul was the best evening we have had in a long time....and we will never forget it.

    Sir Paul Never Disappoints

by Anonymous on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

All I know is that when I'm 68, if I'm doing anything half as well as the way Paul rocked out last night, I will be pretty happy with myself. The man has more energy than anyone I've ever seen, and his voice and band just seem to get better with age. What an amazing show!!!

by Sunae on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

I can't descibe how awesome this concert was. You have to experience it. Words do not do it justice. Paul was right on. From the old Beatles, to newer. He spoke to the audiance in a way, you felt like it was just a big get together and every one there was just a group of friends. I Loved IT!!!!!!!!! I have never seen Paul in concert before, not even the Beatles. Two encores.

    Paul McCartney Great Show

by LindaJ221 on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

Paul McCartney had a great show at the opening of the new Consol Energy Center. He was very friendly and told stories of about himself and also about John, George and Jimi Hendrix. Usually you go to a concert and the enertainer just says a few words to the audience. As for the music, it was fantastic. He played a variety of tunes from his older albums and mixed it in with a great number of Beatles tunes. The accompanying band members were great also, Brian Ray, Rusty Anderson and a very entertaining drummer. The show was close to three hours long with two encores.

    Simply the Best!

by Parrothead421 on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

I cannot say enough good things about this show. Paul rocked! He was funny, he played for over two hours without even taking a break, and he played all the classics with some good newer songs too! Without a doubt, this was the best show I've seen in a long time. I've seen him in concert 3 times, and he gets better each time! While we were seated in the VERY LAST ROW, the Consol Energy Center is a great new venue, and I didn't once feel like our seats were bad.

    Amazing!

by Anonymous on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

I've been to a lot of concerts, but NOTHING tops Paul McCartney! Show was amazing and unforgettable! Just really disappointed that 3/4 of the audience sat for the entire show. The only people standing were the ones on the floor.

    Paul McCartney - WOW

by jeweller on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

Have never been a great McCartney fan myself, my wife has followed the Beatles since they started, but after seeing him last night in Pittsburgh he is a SUPERSTAR. 2.5 + hours of non stop music. No superstar swagger - just giving his fans what they wanted and getting the response from them. His band was amazing, the atmosphere electric, was was he late starting or just getting the audience to fever pitch, whatever it was it worked. And by the way how do you get that much energy at that age? I want that secret. It was worth every penny and more and a lot of other performers and so called stars should study it and learn - you are where you are because of your fans. Paul McCartney knows that and treats his fans with respect. May he go on repeating that performance for a long time to come.

    McCartney's still got it!

by Rob052 on 8/20/10CONSOL Energy Center - Pittsburgh

Fourty six years after he first came through Pittsburgh with the Beatles,Paul McCartney showed he could still recreate the magic with an unforgetable show at the new Consol Energy Center. Despite the high price of tickets and delayed opening he had his legion fans in the palm of his hands right from the start. Starting with a medly of "Venus and Mars" merged with "Jet" and ending with the closing numbers from "Seargeant Pepper" and "Abbey Road" he combined vintage Beatles with more recent solo material with a liberal dose of his seminal "Band on the Run" album seemlessly. Throughout the show he was engaing, personable and glib. Although he likely follows roughly the same pattern in all of his shows he really made the audience feel as though this performance was greated especially for them. It was almost as though he enjoyed playing for us as much as we enjoyed watching and listening. McCartney's voice held up surprisingly well despite his age and the strain of performing nightly three hour shows. His band as usual was par exellenence in harmonies and musicianship. It was an amazing night for all.
