About

Patton Oswalt continues to leave his distinctive imprint across all areas of entertainment, from his award-winning comedy specials to his many guest roles on television. His most recent comedy special We All Scream (which also marked his directorial debut) launched on Netflix last September and Oswalt was recently nominated for a Grammy for his comedy album. Last year, he starred in the Magnolia Pictures comedy I Love My Dad, winner of the Grand Jury and Audience awards at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival.

Oswalt was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his performance in Jason Reitman's film Young Adult, starring opposite Charlize Theron. In 2009, he also received critical acclaim for his performance in Robert Siegel's Big Fan; the film was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and Oswalt earned a Gotham Award nomination for his performance.

Oswalt has appeared in many films, including The Circle, alongside Tom Hanks, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Zoolander, both directed by Ben Stiller, Steven Soderbergh's The Informant with Matt Damon, and alongside Seth Rogen in Jody Hill's Observe and Report, as well as Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia and Todd Phillips' Starsky and Hutch.

Oswalt's past television work includes memorable roles on Parks and Recreation, which brought him a TV Critics Choice Award, A.P. Bio, Veep, United States of Tara, Seinfeld (his TV acting debut), and many more. He is also very well known for playing 'Spence' on The King of Queens for nine seasons. Oswalt is also the narrator on ABC's hit comedy The Goldbergs.  He provided the voice for 'Remy' the rat in Pixar's Oscar® winner Ratatouille, and his other voice credits include 'Max' in The Secret Life of Pets 2, Sorry To Bother You, the SYFY series Happy!, Rick and Morty, Archer, and BoJack Horseman.

In 2020, Oswalt's Emmy nominated Netflix special I Love Everything was widely applauded upon release, and he received a Grammy nomination for his comedy album of the same name. In 2017, he received Grammy and Emmy nominations for his album and Netflix special Annihilation, which addresses his own devastating loss and dealing with the unexplainable, while making it all painfully funny.  In 2016, he won the Emmy for 'Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special' for his sixth comedy special Talking for Clapping and a Grammy Award in 2017 for his comedy album. He has been nominated for a total of six Grammys and four Emmys. Oswalt has shot eight TV specials and released seven critically acclaimed albums -- in 2009, Patton received his first Grammy nomination for his album My Weakness Is Strong.

  • Patton Brought It!!!

by Joestar on 10/23/18Revention Music Center - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

The comedy was on the mark throughout. Patton was at his best when interacting with the audience, which means he didn't need a script to keep the laughs up.

The opening act was super funny and Patton was hilarious as always. He has never disappointed.

  • old material

I love Oswalt and think he’s one of the best working today. This show, however, was a disappointment. 95% of the material was old - fine for a smaller, less expensive gig but not for the Masonic at those prices.

It was so therapeutic to laugh and be amongst other humans laughing their asses off.

It was a great show. I’ve seen recordings of his shows but had never seen him live. It did not disappoint. At least a third of the show was off the cuff and all of it was hilarious. If you like comedy, it’s a must see.

I had the pleasure of getting to see this awesome comedian live, though I wish the show had been longer, it was fantastic. An evening to mark off my list of comedians. I hope he comes to Nashville again.

  • Funny, emotional and incredibly intimate

by Swebbina on 4/22/17Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I laughed and cried at this show. At first it was crying from laughing so hard but then he opened up about his wife, daughter and his ongoing struggles in dealing with loss. It was incredibly intimate and touching to watch him work through the grief. The best show I've ever seen.

What a night. Patton is a master at connecting with his audience, and I left the Ryman after his set having shed some tears, and also having smiled and laughed so much that my face was a little sore. While the comedy was great, his fearlessness on laying his soul bare is something that I will truly also never forget. You are amazing, Patton! Thank you for sharing yourself so freely.

This may be the first time I left a performance with sore muscles from laughing so much. Patton Oswalt didn't just tell funny stories and jokes, he kept the audience laughing almost nonstop for his entire show. His story-telling skills are incredible as he knows just how to engage the audience. From politics to the personal experience of losing his wife a year ago, Patton's set provided insight as well as entertainment.

Patton Oswalt is a great comedian. Despite having a bad cold, he performed like a champ! Thank you, Patton Oswalt for not canceling the show!

  • Fantastic show

Patton Oswalt's 7 pm show Saturday at the Masonic was fantastic. One of the best comedy shows I've ever seen. From excellent bits about the current administration to his ability to find the funny in the tragic loss of his wife, it was every bit the performance of a master of his craft. Would go see him again in a heartbeat. His opener, Tom (didn't catch his last name) was very, very good. Sharp with, excellent timing, and great material. I hope I can figure out who he was; I'd love to hear more from him.

  • Patton Oswalt Brings Humor to Dark Topics

by Miggytosh on 3/28/17The Masonic - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

I went to the Patton Oswalt show for my birthday and it was a wonderful show. I knew going in that Patton had suffered a devastating lose and also knew from his previous comedy concerts that he doesn't shy away from tough personal topics. That being said he still brought an amazing amount of humor and positive insight to the dark moments. He also did a great job connecting directly with the audience for lots of laughs. Great venue to see a comedy concert too with just the right audience size to give the laughs volume while still feeling intimate.

I think he is a genius... he somehow made tragedy hilarious. I cried and laughed the entire second half of the show.

I've been a fan of Patton Oswald for years - he's done great indie black comedies and films like Young Adult as well as his WONDERFUL book Silver Screen Fiend.. More recently, I've thoroughly enjoyed his insightful tweets. I knew part of the show would be about the horrifically untimely loss of his wife last year. While most of the show was stand up including a great bit interacting with a group in the audience that was completely unscripted (he's at his best, I think, when he's thinking on his feet) there was a portion about grief. It was right on target and not morose. I applaud folks who are able to publicly talk about things like depression and grief and death and dying. It somehow all worked in this format. Opening act was also fabulous - can't find his name anywhere! Don't miss this show!

  • Raw, timely, smart ...as always, Patton

by jadedk on 3/27/17Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Patton is a sharp comedian with his finger on politics, nerd culture and smart observations. Even when recovering from a cold & on Dayquil, he's quick on his feet especially when interacting with the audience. He also addresses losing his wife almost a year ago. Brave and unapologetic, it rivals what Tig Notaro did after her mom died and her cancer diagnosis. Not that it's a contest whose tragedy is worse but when comedians face hard experiences and bring it into their shows in an honest and almost vulnerable way, it gives all of the surrounding material more weight and I as a fan appreciate that performer even more.
