PATTI AUSTIN IN CONCERT:
Grammy-winning R&B, jazz, and big band icon Patti Austin has a Grade A pedigree to match her impressive voice — boasting Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington as godparents, the singer made her debut at the Apollo Theater at just age four. In 2014, Austin revives the legendary collaboration between Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, playing Ella opposite the Duke Ellington Orchestra in a series of highly anticipated US tour dates. Renowned for her energy, improvisatory skills, and on-stage warmth, Austin stays faithful to her material while adding a tasteful modern twist that keeps fans coming back for more.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Patti blended a variety of her music and added a lot of detail to each song. Patti is truly an entertainer with a heart and soul that embrace the words and notes she sings!"
"Patti Austin put on a very nice show. Ella would be proud to have Patti do a show about her. Great voice, good music, and very entertaining."
"Patti Austin is an amazing talent! Her voice is like silk... she makes it look effortless. And she's hysterically funny!"
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Harlem, New York, Patti Austin got an early start in music, signing her first contract with RCA Records when she was just five years old. Between 1969 and 1991, she landed an impressive 20 tracks on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, including the 1981 funk masterpiece "Do You Love Me," which reached No. 1 on the US Dance chart. Throughout the '80s, Austin lent her voice to a variety of projects, eventually becoming known as "Queen of The Jingles" for her appearance in ads by companies ranging from Burger King and Meow Mix to the US Army. More recently, Austin has delved into jazz and big band with fabulous results — 2008's Avant Gershwin earned her a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

First time at Berks, but already making plans to attend next year. The crowd was into each act.some times at shows you feel you don't get your money s worth. but not this show.they had the crowd on there feet dancing. I got my money worth. Patti,Johnathan and Jerrell should be on tour together
Friday nights show was so on point. It was great to hear Patti's tribute to Rod Templeton. Could have listened to her longer. However, I would be remiss if I didn't shout out to Gerald Albright and Jonathan Butler. The entire show was fabulous......high energy.;.....best opening to Berks in a wile
Bored us to squirming in our seats . Feel she belongs in duets, and scatting. Nice to look at and i feel that she did all that she could do to be entertaining and personable. Our opinion was 'She gotta eat"
The Berks Jazz Fest is unmatched again in the talent it brings every year.
My husband and I had the pleasure of attending the Berks Jazz Fest last Friday night starring Patti Austin, Gerald Albright and Jonathan Butler. The show was awesome, but to be honest Gerald and Jonathan stole the show. Patti left me short a little because I was looking forward to her singing some of her early classics - "we're In love", "that's enough for me", I just want to know". She sounds great, just didn't sing enough of her songs for my taste. We plan to make Berks an annual event. PS The Theater's sound is Superb !!!!
Entire band, Gerald Albright, Jonathan Butler and Patti were awesome
One of the best prformances I have seen ever at Berks Jazz fest and I have been attending events for 20 years. Great stage presence by all artists and musically outstanding.
PATTI TALKED ABOUT THE PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE MORE THAN SING. I PAID TO HEAR HER SING NOT TALK POLITICS. END OF STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SpyraGyra was awesome. Unfortunately Patti felt it was necessary to bash Trump with filthy language in between EVERY song. It was fine if she wanted to make a statement at the beginning to get it off her chest, but she felt she needed to trash him and be vulgar about it after each song. I took my wife for our anniversary and Patti simply ruined the evening. We gave her time hoping she would let it go, but after 30 minutes of it, we left. Thanks Patti for your selfish tirade and ruining our date night!
I thought the show could have been a little better for me if she had sang more of her old songs, plus for me the acoustics weren't very good for me I couldn't hear her clearly which made it not what I was used to for someone as talented as she is. Spyro Gyro was awesome.
SPYRO GYRA PLAYED AMAZINGLY. PATTI AUSTIN STILL CAN SING BUT SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM POLITICS DURING HER PRESENTATIONS. I PAYED TO WATCH A MUSIC SHOW, NOT A DONALD TRUMP ROAST. A COUPLE OF HIGH LARGE SCREENS WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT.
I always enjoy the classic vocals of Patti Austin. Her voice is amazing! She is very diverse in sound and knows how to captivate an audience. The only two disappointments that took away from the show was her continuous reference regarding her disdain for our new president and the also the fact that she dressed 'down' for the show. I was expecting a little more glamor n' glitz; especially since she is from the older generation and has been in the entertainment business for quite a while. Also, I was SO trying to get away from all the negative politics and have a wonderful evening where I could forget about what's happening in the world for a moment. All in all the show was great...I still love her and think she is a wonderful artist.
Great show by both artists. I haven't been to a concert in over 20 years and I really enjoyed the concert.
Too bad Spyro Gyra didn't headline . Instead we got a vile left wing whiner that ruined our night . Patti's much anticipated performance was overshadowed by her political views.
Patti Austin is a treasure. She has tremendous respect and passion for many different styles of music, R&B, jazz pop, island etc and she makes it all sound great. Her performance is infused with musical wisdom and humanity. She has a great rapport with the audience. She is worldly, opinionated, witty and very humorous.
The Singers seem to get along so good and was into one another singing until it made the whole experience enjoyable. I surely enjoyed the tribute pictures of Natalie Cole and her family. I will attend another event like this again. Some of the ushers were lazy did not want to assist in the area we were in, H-100 -113 area other than that I am please.
These ladies killed it! Wonderful performances and dynamic collaborations between singers and musicians.
I was spellbound by the energy, talent, authenticity and passion of these amazing and thoroughly entertaining jazz goddesses and could not have been more pleased by the excellent material and arrangements of the music that vitalized the audience and filled us with nostalgia and appreciation for some of the great jazz singers who have passed on. Thank you Hollywood bowl for an epic performance! It deserved ten stars out of five.
From the moment Patti Austin stepped to the mic in her white outfit and her pure jewel of a voice effortlessly rang out over the audience, I knew I was in for something special. She and the three other singers -- Judith Hill, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Ledise -- all showed superior skill and showmanship. Even though they had varying styles, there was one binding element -- each one of them could really sing.
