About

PATTI AUSTIN IN CONCERT:

Grammy-winning R&B, jazz, and big band icon Patti Austin has a Grade A pedigree to match her impressive voice — boasting Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington as godparents, the singer made her debut at the Apollo Theater at just age four. In 2014, Austin revives the legendary collaboration between Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, playing Ella opposite the Duke Ellington Orchestra in a series of highly anticipated US tour dates. Renowned for her energy, improvisatory skills, and on-stage warmth, Austin stays faithful to her material while adding a tasteful modern twist that keeps fans coming back for more.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Patti blended a variety of her music and added a lot of detail to each song. Patti is truly an entertainer with a heart and soul that embrace the words and notes she sings!"

"Patti Austin put on a very nice show. Ella would be proud to have Patti do a show about her. Great voice, good music, and very entertaining."

"Patti Austin is an amazing talent! Her voice is like silk... she makes it look effortless. And she's hysterically funny!"

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Harlem, New York, Patti Austin got an early start in music, signing her first contract with RCA Records when she was just five years old. Between 1969 and 1991, she landed an impressive 20 tracks on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, including the 1981 funk masterpiece "Do You Love Me," which reached No. 1 on the US Dance chart. Throughout the '80s, Austin lent her voice to a variety of projects, eventually becoming known as "Queen of The Jingles" for her appearance in ads by companies ranging from Burger King and Meow Mix to the US Army. More recently, Austin has delved into jazz and big band with fabulous results — 2008's Avant Gershwin earned her a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

    A Classic Revisited

by Stenochick on 6/9/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

It was refreshing to hear someone sing without so much reliance on tech machines and backup singers doing the work. Ms Austin was not Diva-late and kept the audience engaged. Unfortunately, Ms. Austin's potty mouth was inappropriate, especially due to the fact a large number of families were there with their children. Perhaps she should have saved that for the 10:00 show...also, she didn't sing any of the songs that made her famous. I can understand she wants everyone to hear the new stuff, but that was a big disappointment. Overall, though, it was a great night out.

    Beautiful voice but..

by custodian on 6/8/11Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara Falls

the voice of Patti Austin was beautiful .. Its a treat just to hear her sing... but her show, in my opinon was flat. Her stories, bored me and were annoying like the yacht story and her views on immigration... I'm curious.why was she singing James Ingraham's part to songs... she had a male backup singer. I know she's the star. but I believe I would have enjoyed those fabulous songs much more. I love you Patti Austin ,please fix your act. I'll see you next time...

    Patti Austin was memorable!

by Soulster on 6/7/11Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara Falls

Patti blended a variety of her music and added a lot of detail to each song. It was nice to hear what she had to say and have a connection of humor intertwined with same. The songs were fantastic but done so by her still well tuned melodic voice! Patti is truly an entertainer with heart and soul that embraces that words and notes she sings!

    Patti Awesome"

by NYCGerald on 6/6/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I've been a fan of Patti's for decades. If CDs wore out, I would have worn her's out years ago. In person, she looks and sounds amazing and is as edgy in her comments as I expected her to be.

    Disappointing show and aweful club

by LFWW on 6/6/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

The club attempted to impose a $10 (or according to the waiter $15) minimum spend per person without prior notification or acceptance. After considerable arguement during the concert, the management appeared to accept we had not contract with them to make purchases of food and beverage. Ms Austin has a good voice and tight backing group but her choise of material, especially for the Blue Note Jazz Festival was very disappointing. She murdered a Sinatra classic and we heard not one of her wondeful Ella tributes.

    Patti was amazing

by Mamabigeyes on 5/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

This is only the second time I've seen Patti Austin live. The first time was at Westbury Music Fair as the opening act for Al Jarreau. She stole the show. She can sing pop, jazz, blues, ballards. She has an incredible connection with her audiences. Her conversations are engaging yet short. Patti is definitely a candidate for a one woman Broadway show!

SPECTACULAR; she made me feel like I was her personal guest and friend; so intimate and her voice and performing talents have just gotten better and better over time. I have been a fan since 1978 and will always be.

    Patti Austin's Music Never Ends

by FanOfPatti on 11/9/09Cal State Northridge - Northridge

Uplifting, irreverent, touching - you name it, Patti Austin is all things musical. She never disappoints, and Saturday night was no exception. She was in top form, as was her band, led by Greg Phillinganes, and her beautiful background singers. Thank you, Patti, for inspiring us with your gifts.
