About

PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC IN CONCERT:

Parliament-Funkadelic has influenced generations of funk, R&B, and hip hop musicians with their infectious grooves and psychedelic stage shows. Now the world’s funkiest collective is back on tour to tear the roof off the sucker. Bandleader George Clinton masterfully conducts the vocalists through every harmonious twist as the band delves deeper and deeper into their down and dirty jams. The horns still blow, the drums still bump, and the bass still booms, but new school fans will also appreciate the hip hop and electronica flourishes this freaky fellowship has added to their signature sound. Whenever Parliament-Funkadelic hits the stage they’re sure to get ticket buyers singing along and shaking their booties with p-funk anthems like “Atomic Dog”, “Flash Light”, and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)”.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

George Clinton (born 1941 in Kannapolis, NC) showed an intense interest in music at an early age, forming his first doo wop group, The Parliaments, when he was only 14. He then worked briefly as a staff songwriter for Motown before starting several funk collectives, most notably Parliament and Funkadelic. Both groups began to score hugely influential and successful hits like “Maggot Brain”, “Up for the Down Stroke”, and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)”. In the early ‘80s the groups consolidated to Parliament-Funkadelic, and they continued to wow fans in performance with outlandish, sci-fi-inspired costumes and stage props as well as dozens of band members on stage at a time. In addition to Clinton, the group has featured contributions from some of the biggest names in funk such as Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, and Eddie Hazel. The band’s mind-expanding grooves and psychedelic concept albums proved hugely influential, helping them get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. The collective continues to soldier on, releasing First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate in 2014 and bringing their futuristic funk to audiences around the world with the same family-style stage shows.

    by Golden on 8/27/23

I loved the Parliament show but this stage was not fit for the whole band it was kind of loud and cluttered.

George was more active than n he was at Rock n Roll HOF concert a few years ago. He looked really good and healthy! ,That said the sound was pretty bad IMO. Just 2 much goin on. Not impressed with current lineup but the 2 gangsters singin were pretty good.

    Just good

    by Duck4541@gmail.com on 8/27/23

Had our hometown lead guitarist Michael Hampton played Maggot brain it would have been a great show..We the Cleveland family really missed that..considering it was billed a final performance.

    Phantastic!

George Clinton still has it. Surrounded by a talented group. So much was happening on the stage at the same time.

    Why, Why

    by Racso on 8/27/23

It would have been nice to see George Clinton sing one song but he didn’t, I understand your getting up there in age to sit down but the whole show, if the concert was 3 hours, he sat down 2 hours and 45 minutes, it was a real disappointment.

Opening act fish bone was terrible

    by Bev on 8/27/23

The opening act Blue ivy I believe it's probably young and upcoming and they were decent alternatively fish was a mess why they were there I have no clue and then because the audience was not with them visibly with them and they're terrible acts they became upset and pretty much this is what they said Cleveland I don't give a f*** I wish they had to follow that up with getting off the stage I along with most of the crowd would have been happier to just sit there and listen to the DJ or whatever was playing recorded music. George Clinton Parliament funkadelic was as usual high energy and fun George Clinton didn't do much but I guess just seeing him there the legend that he is made up for his not singing very much but there were excellent and the guy I forgot his name who was the lead singer on atomic dog and I think a couple of others was prancing across the stage and really really good we thoroughly enjoyed it that portion of the show. Oh one complaint or I guess it was maybe two if you count the fishbone one lol they did not come on until between 9:30 and 10:00 I think it was on a work night I wish they had came on earlier The show was not over until like 12:00 I wish they had started their set sooner.

    Bad acoustics

    by Reviewer on 8/27/23

The band was great but the acoustics were so poor it was nearly impossible to hear. The two openers were also so loud my ears were ringing before PFunk began. I would have loved to enjoy the show but MGM needs some better sound design for the venue to be truly enjoyable. The audience, however, was terrific!

This living legend has been making music for over 50 years. This is a generational act in more ways than one. There are many generations of family members in this nonstop get your money's worth perform all night act.

    PFunk and Fishbone deserve better

    by Rfunk on 8/25/23

PFunk was great, but not the best time I've seen them due to several factors, some members are no longer with us or the band. GC is not as active or dynamic (through no fault of his own just an age thing) and the venue's acoustics are poor particularly close up and at high volumes. Others agreed. Fishbone in particular had such poor sound production they could have been a garage band for all I could hear.

    Show went too late

    by Drummer on 8/25/23

This concert was on a Tuesday night, started at 7, and ended at midnight. P-Funk didn't go on until about 10:15. A 5 hour concert. Really? Maybe I'm just getting old.

    Good to see George.

    by Stacey Adams on 8/23/23

I understood the mother ship not being there but, no Bootsy Collin, Sir Nose, or crazy costumes? Missing a few favorite songs. Chocolate City, Aqua Boogie….other then that decent show.

    Terrible Sound

I've been to two concerts here now and there won't be a third. The sound at this venue is the worst I've ever heard.

    Parliament Funk

    by JT on 8/22/23

It’s a minimalist show…and George Clinton is getting old. He spends much of the performance sitting on stage while younger (honestly mediocre) members of the troop perform. It’s not like it’s a bad show. But it’s not spectacular. They are riding the nostalgia and fun of loud and jam band style showmanship…mostly made a great experience by a few stand out moments by Clinton and the massive drug induced state of both audience and performers. If that’s what you’re looking for then it’s a great show. If you’re looking for more than that you’ll be disappointed. I personally had fun, but I don’t think I’ll be going to see them again soon - and not at all if George isn’t there…which means I prob won’t ever see them again. Glad I can say I got to see them though before they disappear forever into the cultural history books.

    Sad Remnant Of Former Glory

    by Wellmont 2023 on 8/22/23

Both opening acts were better than the main act. No insult to George Clinton. My guess is the rest of the band not close to the greatness of the past. Walked out before the concert ended.

    Parliament and Fishbone

    by AB66 on 8/22/23

I was looking forward to the show for a very long time. Big fan of the music. When Parliament finally came on stage, however, it was confused and cacophonous. Maybe it was the seats, maybe it was the mix, but it was too much and not enough at the same time. Disappointing. Fishbone put on a better show.
