About

PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC IN CONCERT:

Parliament-Funkadelic has influenced generations of funk, R&B, and hip hop musicians with their infectious grooves and psychedelic stage shows. Now the world’s funkiest collective is back on tour to tear the roof off the sucker. Bandleader George Clinton masterfully conducts the vocalists through every harmonious twist as the band delves deeper and deeper into their down and dirty jams. The horns still blow, the drums still bump, and the bass still booms, but new school fans will also appreciate the hip hop and electronica flourishes this freaky fellowship has added to their signature sound. Whenever Parliament-Funkadelic hits the stage they’re sure to get ticket buyers singing along and shaking their booties with p-funk anthems like “Atomic Dog”, “Flash Light”, and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)”.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

George Clinton (born 1941 in Kannapolis, NC) showed an intense interest in music at an early age, forming his first doo wop group, The Parliaments, when he was only 14. He then worked briefly as a staff songwriter for Motown before starting several funk collectives, most notably Parliament and Funkadelic. Both groups began to score hugely influential and successful hits like “Maggot Brain”, “Up for the Down Stroke”, and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)”. In the early ‘80s the groups consolidated to Parliament-Funkadelic, and they continued to wow fans in performance with outlandish, sci-fi-inspired costumes and stage props as well as dozens of band members on stage at a time. In addition to Clinton, the group has featured contributions from some of the biggest names in funk such as Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, and Eddie Hazel. The band’s mind-expanding grooves and psychedelic concept albums proved hugely influential, helping them get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. The collective continues to soldier on, releasing First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate in 2014 and bringing their futuristic funk to audiences around the world with the same family-style stage shows.

    Sound needs to improve

by Daniel on 9/20/23Uptown Theater Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Worst sound mix I've heard live. Speakers were often overdriven, clipping and blown out, multiple feedback loops. Total mess. I blame the venue, not the performers on this one. George Clinton and Parliament delivered with a typically lively and over the top performance. The Uptown Theater is on my list to never attend again.

The Funk Mob is still in top form

by Jammin1 on 9/20/23Uptown Theater Minneapolis - Minneapolis

A great warm up group definitely got things going good. Parliament Funkadelic were incredibly awesome! With George Clinton definitely leading the funk mob as they performed many of their classics and a couple songs I didn’t expect. The group had quite a few youthful new members that obviously were not in the group in the 70’s They really got the crowd going with a couple of newer Parliament Funkadelic songs and a cover of hip hop classic Jump Around. Funkadelic’s guitarists were still in top form and with crazy Funkadelic antics. Awesome performances of Maggot Brain, Red Hot Mama and Cosmic Slop among others. And crowd engaging performances of Flashlight, Tear The Roof Off The Sucker, P Funk wants to get Funked Up still whipped the whole place into a frenzy. One of the greatest concerts I’ve ever been to. Better than I was expecting. They didn’t perform a couple of my favorite songs but even so it was still funky good time as The Mothership continues it’s earth tour even in 2023!!

Porter Jr. was worth the price of admission

by TG on 9/20/23Uptown Theater Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Good venue, George Porter Jr. was amazing. The sound guy for Clinton was terrible. So much so that I dropped the rating to 3 stars. If the sound was good, it would have been 5. If Clinton wasn't a legend, it would be a 1.

    What even IS this !!

by JohnnyB on 9/19/23Uptown Theater Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Yes, I expected funk - but I expected funk like Sly and the FS. George Clinton and his troupe are something ELSE !!! Phenomenal energy, hot as f***, no let up on his signature baseline, multiple stellar soloists both vocal and instrumental. I talked to a guy who’s seen them 30 times. Now, I get it.

    Awful

An absolute joke. Terrible sound. No cohesion between the members. Just absolute waste of my money.

Just Give Up The Funk Already!

    by n. h. on 9/12/23

What a huge disappointment this concert was. Nothing like old school Parliament. George Clinton sat down most of the show leaving his new band to perform most of the show and they were soooo bad. The one guy singing was grabbing his junk most of the time (awkward) while the rest of the band just seemed entirely discombobulated! We left halfway through the show. Don’t waste your money on this one!

    Felt a little jilted

by mochamazing on 9/8/23MGM Northfield Park - Center Stage - Northfield

I was totally excited to go to the concert & I loved hearing the music. The music was so loud that you could barely hear the vocals. You definitely get the funkadelic but you get little to no George Clinton at all, he sat on the stage most of the time & got up to say a few words here and there.

    Worst Ever!

    by Alicia on 8/31/23

This is the ABSOLUTE WORST concert I have ever attended! I am highly disappointed, and really want my money back! If I had known George Clinton wasn't going to perform... I wouldn't have bought the ticket!

    Big Disappointment

    by holly on 8/29/23

Missed over 1/2 of Fishbone (the band I came to see) because the 1st band started as soon as the doors opened, rather than listed show time. Lines to get in were ridiculously long, the sound was AWFUL. Parliament were a whole bunch of people I didn’t recognize with George Clinton occasionally wandering in to sing a couple of words. I think Bootsie was in the back? Don’t know for sure since the stage was too low & the room was flat. No Mothership, just basic lighting. Crowd was a lot less diverse than I was hoping. Left after a few songs. Was really looking forward to seeing one of my all-time favorite bands without having to drive a few hours to a bigger city & the whole night ended up to be a huge bummer.

George Clinton is getting old and has a new group in his place. We didn't get the notice in advance.

    Worse concert ever

    by Katie on 8/29/23

I am a huge lover of music, particularly funk, soul, R&B, and jazz. In all of my 50 years, I’ve attended a lot of live shows & concerts. I was super excited when I saw this band was to be in town. But I ended up being very disappointed. The music was so loud, it overshadowed the voices of the singers. But worst of all, what have they done to all of the old songs? They changed them so much they were pretty much unrecognizable. I totally get putting a new spin on some songs. But this was not that. The versions of the songs played at this show were bad! My boyfriend & I, as well as a lot of other guests, left before the show was done. Sadly, the worst concert I’ve ever seen.

Left it ALL on the stage -- and we got our funk fix!

    by Syndi on 8/29/23

WOW! Such an energized performance that never flagged for a second -- and the PF members did a funkadelic-fabulous job of engaging us conmcertgoers for every bit of the funky fun. THANKS for the memories (new and old) - and - for such a memorable performance, George Clinton and company!

    Where to start

    by Chad on 8/29/23

Well, how can you miss the farewell tour of George Clinton, and how could you expect Parliment Funkadelic to not bring the high energy funk? From Blu Eye Extinction starting the show to about 25% capacity, Fishbone feeding the growing masses, with the same fervor they have had for 30+ years, and finally Parliement Funkadelic, the audience was dancing. Just brilliant, enough said.

    Terrible

    by MT on 8/29/23

I was expecting an old school concert but I'm not really sure what i saw. George Clinton sat in a chair for most of the show and he had some young guy singing the songs and he wasn't very good. The band sounded great.

    Dissapointed

    by Big E on 8/29/23

George did not sing much and his replacement singers were not good. Also did not know fishbone was warm up band. Their sound was messed up most of their show. Only came to see George and Funkadelics.

    Disappointing

    by Allison on 8/28/23

This venue is awful. The sound for Fishbone was terrible (tons of feedback, it looked like the band’s monitors weren’t working). The seats are small and super close together… I’m a small person and even I felt crammed in. The floor isn’t graded and the seats weren’t staggered so I couldn’t see much of anything (thank goodness for the two monitors bordering the stage). The merch was set up across from the restrooms in a fairly narrow hallway… between that and the lines for the bar, it was a congested and crowded mess. The staff, however, was wonderful. I won’t be returning.

    Way late too little

    by Disappointed on 8/28/23

Show started at 7:30. Two bands played before George Clinton and the Parliament. They kicked off at 10:00 pm on a work night waited until 11:00 no old school funk played so left. We are those people that have to work the next day. Hour drive to get home. Disappointed!
