About

PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC IN CONCERT:

Parliament-Funkadelic has influenced generations of funk, R&B, and hip hop musicians with their infectious grooves and psychedelic stage shows. Now the world’s funkiest collective is back on tour to tear the roof off the sucker. Bandleader George Clinton masterfully conducts the vocalists through every harmonious twist as the band delves deeper and deeper into their down and dirty jams. The horns still blow, the drums still bump, and the bass still booms, but new school fans will also appreciate the hip hop and electronica flourishes this freaky fellowship has added to their signature sound. Whenever Parliament-Funkadelic hits the stage they’re sure to get ticket buyers singing along and shaking their booties with p-funk anthems like “Atomic Dog”, “Flash Light”, and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)”.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

George Clinton (born 1941 in Kannapolis, NC) showed an intense interest in music at an early age, forming his first doo wop group, The Parliaments, when he was only 14. He then worked briefly as a staff songwriter for Motown before starting several funk collectives, most notably Parliament and Funkadelic. Both groups began to score hugely influential and successful hits like “Maggot Brain”, “Up for the Down Stroke”, and “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)”. In the early ‘80s the groups consolidated to Parliament-Funkadelic, and they continued to wow fans in performance with outlandish, sci-fi-inspired costumes and stage props as well as dozens of band members on stage at a time. In addition to Clinton, the group has featured contributions from some of the biggest names in funk such as Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, and Eddie Hazel. The band’s mind-expanding grooves and psychedelic concept albums proved hugely influential, helping them get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. The collective continues to soldier on, releasing First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate in 2014 and bringing their futuristic funk to audiences around the world with the same family-style stage shows.

    Disappointing

    by Shawn on 12/8/21

This concert was very disappointing. It was at Howard Theater (DC) and felt like a college talent show. Many unrecognizable mediocre talent on stage performing, they played a few hits, but songs were remixed and a lot of rapping. I barley recognized Clinton (didn’t stand out dressed in simple hoodie & jeans), there were a bunch of ppl on stage, at one point even a women holding a baby. I would have never come to this show and wish could get money back. It was a bore and waste of time. The mothership is gone and Clinton should just retire, instead of having random ppl do most of performance. We paid to see the quality performance he use to do, not this..

I enjoyed the George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic concert.

He performed all my favorites songs. The crowd was up on their feet the whole time. It was really awesome.

    It was a okay show.

by J. on 4/8/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

If this is George Clinton's farewell tour, he needs to definitely step it up. The show has way too many unrecognizable songs that turned the crowd off. On one occasion, he actually stop the one of the songs and went into Tear the Roof Off because the crowd was dead. Overall, George left quite a few solid funk staples off the play list to showcase the young band members. If this is your final tour, give the people what they paid for.

    Too much rapping!

by LadyPitt on 4/8/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Sorry to say I was disappointed in his final show in Atlanta. For those of us who loves George Clinton and the gang, this was not the show we expected. There were too many rappers on stage, you couldn’t understand anything they were saying including the scantily dressed young lady with blond hair! Her outfit and music was totally inappropriate for the audience! No, and No!! When they finally played their hits, the tempo was so slow it was difficult to recognize it! This was not a good show. Thoroughly disappointed!

    Slightly disappointed

by C. on 4/8/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The traditional music of George Clinton was great! That new-school; hip hop stuff was not what I expected, nor enjoyed. -The merchandise seller only accepted cash and the ONLY ATM at the faculty was down.

    Great music, bad lighting

by Robert on 4/7/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The music was amazing but I had to leave half way through due to the lights. I have hemeralopia and bright lights are painful. The lights kept turning on beside the stage to light up the crowd. Spent half the concert sitting with my eyes closed before the pain made me leave. :(

Good Show..it was filled with new artists though that I guess George wants to help come up...I could have did without that part(a few times over it was done...singing stuff ive never heard) but hes worth the trip down memory lane...The diverse fan base was also a pleasant surprise

So high you can't get over it. No! Not clear.

by Good show - but. on 4/7/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The Cobb Energy Center's acoustics are one of the best in this area. However the Parliament's sound engineer had the sound so high, that it was unclear. And i was sitting right over the engineer, in the mezzanine's 2nd row.

    Great Show But...

by Y. on 4/7/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I am strictly old school and could have done without a lot of the contemporary parts of the show, ESPECIALLY, the rap. I HATE RAP!!! I enjoyed the musicians, even the briefs wearing, rainbow dreadlock sporting, guitar player. I appreciated the saxophone and trumpet player (they were older), but most of all loved George Clinton-being able to keep going at his age, and how long the show was—almost 3 hours! I wanted more of him and the music I remember from the 70s, not the 20 somethings shaking their hips. Yes, they had nice voices but I would never choose to hear them. Didn’t resonate with me. There are so few of the actual old school musicians left, I had to see his last visit to Atlanta. Just could have done with more ACTUAL P FUNK.

    It was cool!

by Concert goer on 4/7/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The show was ok & it was good to see a legend. I was there to hear the orginal Parliament songs versus new music. I felt it was too young for an old school crowd. We want the funk not ratchet rap!

    Great show!!!!

by candygirl1979 on 8/16/15Thunder Valley Casino - Lincoln

I've been a huge Parliament fan all my life and I finally got to see them last night. They sounded great but the 70's stage show theatrics just aren't there anymore. George Clinton is 74 years old so he can't quite perform like he used to it. It was mostly a case of George and a group of young musicians on stage who sang most of George's versus. That was disappointing but the songs were still good.
