About

Owl City is the musical brainchild of Adam Young, who launched the project in 2007 while living at his parents' home in Owatonna, Minnesota. Troubled by insomnia, Young began spending his evenings in the household basement, where a computer and several instruments provided a diversion from his sleeping patterns. He eventually combined those diversions into a blend of electronica and emo-pop, using little more than his computer and various keyboards to record the material. Songs were uploaded to MySpace upon completion, and Young began attracting a surprising amount of attention on the networking site. Of particular note was "Hello Seattle," a fabricated ode to the Emerald City whose viral popularity earned Young a record contract with Universal Republic.

Ocean Eyes, his first album for the label, was released in 2009, coinciding with the launch of Owl City's first national tour. While on the road, Young watched as "Fireflies" became one of the year's most popular singles, eventually topping the charts in several countries (including the U.S.) and selling more than three million copies. A deluxe edition of the album appeared in 2010, featuring seven bonus tracks as well as the original track list, and Universal Records capitalized on the buzz by also reissuing Maybe I'm Dreaming and Of June, both of which had been self-released several years earlier. An Airplane Carried Me to Bed, an album of acoustic pop songs that predated the Owl City project, followed in 2010. Technically a side project, the album was released under a different moniker, Sky Sailing. Young returned to Owl City in 2011 with All Things Bright and Beautiful, his first collection of new material in years. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi

    Owl City Is Awesome!!

Great show. The venue was nice also, but awkwardly set up. Prices were reasonable. The two opening acts were very talented as well.

OWL CITY WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER

    by That1Fan on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

The Owl City concert in the Cabooze was unforgettable and utterly amazing. By far one of the best shows i have ever been to. Owl city really knew how to play to the crowd and really got everyone going. They did an amazing job selecting their songs and the order that they put them in. Over all the only thing that could have possible made this concert better was to be in a better setting. The Cabooze is a decent venue but there are better choices for the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area. But still an amazing concert. The end was by far my favorite moment; when they walked off the stage acting as if they weren't going to play their number one hit song in the cities. Then coming back and making an amazing end to an awesome night.

    Best Concert EVER!

    by Alex444 on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

The combination of Unicorn kid, Kate and Owl City was amazing!! Probably the best concert I've ever been to. Their blends of music worked perfectly. My friends and I ditched our senior Homecoming to go to the concert and it was the best decision ever!

Owl CIty and Unicorn Kid were AMAZING!!

by TGroskreutz on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

I thought the concert was amazing! I wish Swimming with Dolphins had been there rather than Kate, I wasn't too fond of the lull between Unicorn Kid and Owl City, I almost fell asleep, but the first and last shows were AWESOME! :D

    Owl City was fun.

by KatLikesMusic on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

I loved both opening performers. However, my friend and I realized that Owl City sounds like one elongated song when performing live, so we got a little bored. Good energy though!! We might have been more interested if we had known the songs a lot better. Alas, no money to buy the newest albums, so we weren't familiar with each song. We also wished it would have been 18+.

If you were looking for peace

by ColtonMoyer on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

Adam Young, is what someone looks up to. He knew his stage and he used it well. When the saltwater room began my eyes began to tear, He gave it all for his home town, And we gave him all we could as well.

    Adam is perfect.

by averydedicatedfan on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

The concert was simply amazing. Unicorn kid was a 17 year old from Scotland, totally legal. And Kate Hevnevik was absolutely breathtaking. But the steal of the show was Adam Young. He put his heart and soul into his singing and you could see the crowd surge with his energy. You could see the adoration in his eyes for his hometown fans, Minnesota loves him and I hope he knows.

Last night, I witnessed Owl City, perform the best concert I've ever seen. Adam Young is one of the most talented artists I've heard. His music is something incredible that puts a smile on my face EVERY TIME I hear it. Thank you for an unforgettable show. :)

    Owl City concert was amazing!!

by Bauhead on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

I have been a fan of Owl City for a while now. And have wanted to see him in concert for a long time. I waited in line for an hour!! Got good seats. Danced my way to the front during UNICORN KID (he is amazing), and then sat and relaxed during the next performer. Then Owl City came on and he played almost ALL of my favorite songs. He even played some of his older songs, which made me happy!

    Amazing Concert

    by Natalie953 on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

Well I would give this amazing concert 5 stars if I had liked the 2nd act better. It was a little too long, but it was ok. 1st act really got every one going and excited. Owl City on the other hand was just positively spectacular. Adam was great and he played some great songs that everyone, including me, a huge fan, sang along to. I had never been to a concert before and so having this be my first I have nothing much to compare it with, but all things considered it was really great to see all the songs that I've listened on repeat for so long come to life on stage. The theater itself was very crowded and I ended up going on the upped level to be able to breathe and not have big sweaty men jumping all over me. But I loved the concert and I love Owl City!!!

    WooHoo!!

by ClaraDoyle on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

Over all I had a great time, although if you do go you must be prepared to deal with a great deal of pre-teenage girls with big crushes and high pitched voices. I loved the opener Unicorn Kid although the other one (Kate something) wasn't my favorite. Over all I loved it.

    Musical Genius!

by MinneapolisMusicman on 9/27/09Cabooze - Minneapolis

The line for this show was over two city blocks long. The venue was already full for the first opening act... and the atmosphere was electric. I was blown away when Owl City hit the stage. I've never seen a smaller type venue like this just roar in anticipation. Each song was skillfully crafted to build up for the next. Everyone knew the lyrics, and the crowd was dancing non-stop! Brianne Duren was brilliant as back up vocalist/keys and the interactions between the on-stage performers was that of seasoned musicians... not a first time tour group. The song "Strawberry Avalanche" set the house into a frenzy! I was so overcome that something so simple could be such pure enjoyment. This show is a MUST SEE. And easily the best A-Z show I've ever seen (I've seen Coldplay/Blue October/TheFray/Augustana/Backstreet Boys/Maroon 5/DanityCane/Sean Kingston/Yellowcard/Jack'sManaquin/ColbyCollet/GavinDegraw/OneRepublic/Keane/MatKearney/HelioSequence/Train/BrandyCarlile/Auqulung/DeathCab... point is this show blew my mind!). Adam Young is a genious. A modern day Mozart. And should win Grammy's for the creation of this masterful music. SO yeah, I'd go if I were you. Just my opinion though... :D

all-around knock your socks off fun <3

by Vfran on 9/26/09The Intersection - Grand Rapids

loved the energy, the clarity of both music and lyrics, visually pretty too. performed a nice long set list with a nice mixture of new and old music. I was really overwhelmed by how diverse but cohesive all the music sounded.
