Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour
Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.
With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."
What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?
Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.
During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.
I brought my 6 year old Grandson to this show. It was absolutely perfect for a child his age. He had a wonderful time and was literally sitting on the edge of his seat through most of the performance.
What a performance! Everything just came together and I couldn't stop talking about it after. This was one of those rare performances that was worth every penny. I would recommend to young, old, families, and pretty much anyone to attend OVO. I will surely be looking for more Cirque du Soleil in the near future. Please come to Bangor again next year!!

Ovo was outstanding! The costumes alone are worth the price of admission, they are so clever and unique. As usual for a Cirque du Soleil performance, the performers themselves were great....interacted with the audience frequently. Our seats were excellent as well.
Cirque du Soleil: OVO was simply awesome. My family loved every minute of it. The talent the people have to the costumes were just amazing. I would go back and watch the same show again. Hope Cirque du Solei returns to Maine again next year.
This show was great..it captured your attention for sure....I took my 16month old grandson whom is very busy...he sat thru the whole show, also my 9 year old grand daughter who has some special needs, she was mesmerized by the show...can't wait for another show to come to Bangor...there was a show pertaining to the Beatles that I heard was really good, how about that be our next event...
This is the first time I have ever gone to see this kind of show. I was blown away by it. And I am eagerly waiting for their return already next year! I would definitely go again a thousand times! Thanks for coming to Bangor for a weekend showing.

Wonderful show, very interesting creative and entertaining. Seating left a lot to be desired not the greatest of venues in that regard. Packed in like sardines with little room to move. People had to climb over rows of seats to get to their seats if not on the end of a row. Seeing the show best from front-on orientation. From there, even the higher rows had a great view.
This is the second time we have seen Cirque Du Soleil in Bangor and the shows have been amazing. We will never miss one when they come.
I've been to 4 Cirque de Soliel shows and this one in Bangor was such a disappointment. Normally, the shows contain beutiful songs and music among with a story line that you can follow. I felt like I was at a circus show......lesson learned for me.....if going to see them again it will be in a major city where the stage and music is outstanding.
I was given the worst seat in the auditorium. Show was good.
Fast paced and a great story line or all ages. White knuckles one minute, hilarious the next. The only problem- I lost track of time! WOW

This was my second Cirque du Soleil show (saw La Nouba at Disney World). I was amazed at La Nouba and didn't think anything could top that show - I was wrong, this show was even better than my first show - what an amazing group of performers. Great "story" and done, as a traveling show, even better than LaNouba that has a permanent home in Florida. In a word "WOW"! Sound and view were amazing, but a word to the people at Cross Center in Bangor, get some ushers with some "umph" who are not afraid to "shush" people and take people and/or their phones OUT of the show area - we had a big mouth who jabbered for the first part of the show until my husband had to finally issue her a "SHUT UP" - she was super annoying. A friend of mine went to the show on a different day and had someone who was texting during the whole thing - the light from the phone was really distracting, the usher came THREE times to tell her to put it away, instead of removing her to the concession/non-show area to use her phone....

I really wasn't prepared for how beautifully staged, immaculately lit, and brilliantly performed this would be. A must see.
